Invisibility, and missing on your attack roll

Rules Questions

While under the effect of the spell Invisibility, I understand hitting a char with any attack/spell stops the effect. However what if you make an attack roll and miss? since you missed and never hit your target does invisibility still end since technically no one was the target of your attack/spell?

Perhaps maybe only a perception check to locate the 5ft square the invisible creature is in?

Attacking a creature breaks invisibility, not harming the creature.

The attack is more about the 'attack' than the actual result, if you placed a wall of fire in a position to fry creatures it would dispel invisibility while putting it in place to prevent creatures passing would not.

+1. Any action that targets an enemy or makes them make a saving throw is considered an attack and would break invisibility.

Attacking is a hostile action and would break the spell.

I think it would have something to do with how badly you miss. Lets face it you may not penitrate a weak spot in the armor but you might still make contact with it. This would break stealth. It you don't even hit the touch ac then you miss completely and stay hidden. thats my view anyway.

No, as has already been said, the spell (not talking about stealth here, by the way) says nothing about having to be successful in your attack.

just making a "attack roll" breaks the spell
