Saving Throw

I'm wondering why Ray of Frost allows a saving throw, while Acid Splash doesn't. The only other difference I see is the element of the spells.

EDIT: Ok, I said the wrong thing. Neither allows a saving throw. I was looking at spell resistance.

You seem confused -- Ray of Frost does not allow a save throw. It does allow spell resistance.

Conjuration vs Evocation.

Also, you can take Weapon Focus (et al.) for rays, but not ranged touch attacks in general. Not a huge selling point as I've never seen anyone do that, but it's an option.

The people who do it are ray sorcerers and sorcerer/rogue/arcane tricksters. Both combos can use the extra +1 to hit, even going after touch AC since they aren't full BAB, and both make extensive use of rays.
