Ok, I am a bit confused and I've spent enough time searching threads to find the answer that I feel like I am going in circles so if someone can answer this question or point me to some form of official answer, I would be happy.

1. Can a player with an existing character use an archetype if none of the abilities that affect him apply yet.

My assumption here is no but wanted to verify.

2. I have a registered character that has no statistics or race or class or anything. He has never been played and is literally nothing more than a name. Can I build him using an archtype? I am basically wondering if the date of creation is how question number one is determined.

1. I'm sure the answer is no. Now, if you were to do so I'm sure it's unlikely you'd be caught, but if so the damage of a potential character ban would be a risk outweighing the reward.

2. In this case however, since he's never been played it'd be perfectly fine. Just ensure you check the PFS resources however, not all archetypes are valid for PFS play.

Actually, you are allowed to add an archetype if you have not yet taken the first class ability that is changed.

Yup - this was clarified when the APG came out

Yeah, this really should get added to either the Additional Resources text for the APG or to the FAQ, since by the book you cannot give a character an archetype in any of it's classes after it has been played. Adding archetypes after a character has been played but before the first ability swap-out happens is a PFS-specific house rule.

I agree that adding it to the FAQ would be useful, as it is frequently asked.

However, the rules for adopting new archetypes allow a GM to make these kinds af adjustments, so I don't think it is contradictory to the RAI. APG & UM do say you must determine which Class Features you want to use the first time you take the class, but UC (most recent source) does not contain that language.

I just disagree that it is as cut-snd-dried as you represent it.

Acording to Joshua Frost you should stat that character out prior to asigning eventual GM credits.

If the character has GM credits you should use the characters date of creation as a guideline for what sources you can use.

If the character has not been played and has not gained any credits (GM or otherwise) you are free to use any of the now legal material for that character. However you cannot incorporate bth new rules and grandfather old rules into the same character. Choose a date of creation and stick to it. If in doubt register a new character and stat it out as soon as you can, that way you can be sure you have not done anything wrong.
