So say I am using spellsong to mask the fact that I am casting a spell. Would an adjacent enemy that fails their perception/sense motive get an AOO?

Is the enemy actively attacking you? If so, yes. If not, then just because you stop defending yourself doesn't mean someone would suddenly hit you for no reason.

Provoking an AoO is not allowing an enemy to hit you, but rather letting your guard down. If an orc is trying to hit you, and you divert your attention from the battle (for whatever reason) then the orc can hit you. It doesn't matter if the orc knows why you're not paying attention, just that you are.

If you're talking to a town guard, and you mask a suggestion spell by juggling (or whatever), if the guard isn't actively trying to hit you, and he doesn't know you're taking a hostile action, then I would say he doesn't attempt an AoO.

I dunno Grick, I think if I were a town guard and some spoony bard started talking to me and then started juggling, I'd probably take the opportunity to punch him in the face. ;)

What I was getting at more precisely was; when in combat if I was using inspire courage via bardic performance and then threw in a spell while adjacent to an enemy would they then get an AOO if they failed to know a spell was being cast?

Although now that I think of it, the inspire courage would provoke so the whole thing may be moot?

Enemies do not get an AoO because they notice a spell being cast. They get an AoO because they notice you aren't paying enough attention to properly defend yourself. Even if you're casting a silent/still spell (or a spell-like ability) you still provoke because you're zoning out on the battlefield. The fact that this might interrupt spellcasting is just a bonus.

ok, that makes all kinds of sense. but it is less fun for this spoony bard! :P

Also, you should note that an enemy COULD get more than one AoO on you per round, they just have to be from different actions. Spend both move actions running circles around them? Two AoOs. Cast while adjacent then move? Two AoOs. Do a full-round of attacks and replace all of them with a maneuver you are not trained in? One AoO for each attack.

Of course, to TAKE more than one AoO they still need either Combat Reflexes or a similar ability.

Inspire Courage is a Supernatural Ability, which does not provoke.
