What is the Damage?

If a character uses a greatsword with which he is proficient to do nonlethal damage, does this alter the damage dice?

I know he takes a -4 penalty on attacks, I just can't find anywhere about damage.

The damage should not change. A greatsword will still to 2d6 + STR and a half, it'll just be nonlethal damage if you took the -4 to hit.

The damage is the same, just nonlethal. You can add anything that you can also add to your normal (lethal) damage. Power Attack, Weapon Specilization and so on.

The only exeption is sneak attack damage. this exception can be found in the ability description of sneak attack.

The amount of damage doesn't change, it simply changes to non-lethal damage. You could even power attack with non-lethal damage.
