Does he need Exotic Weapon Proficiency anyway?

Nets are usually exotic weapons; in fact, the only characters who can be proficient without feats are Half-Orcs with the Beastmaster alternate trait who are fighters, paladins, rangers, etc.

But in UC is a new feat called Net Adept, and one of the prerequisites is Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Net). Does a Beastmaster Fighter need to take this to get Net Adept?

That requirement doesn't necessarily mean is has to be the feat. It just means they have to be proficient with the net. So, if that trait grants proficiency with a net, then that meets the requirement for the feat.

EDIT: On second thought, the wording of the Beastmaster racial trait is tricky. It says that they treat nets and whips as martial weapons which is not the same as having exotic weapon proficiency. Still... proficiency with a net is proficiency with a net. If they can use a net without penalties, then I would consider that good enough to meet the prerequisite for Net Adept.

I'd only be worried because the racial trait treats nets as martial weapons. By RAW, is the feat still required?
