I'm looking for some clarification on the special part of the Dragon Ferocity style feat, the sections reads

Special: Taking this feat allows you to qualify for the
Elemental Fist feat (Advanced Player’s Guide 158) even if you
do not meet that feat’s prerequisites. If you do not meet that
feat’s prerequisites, you must choose one of the damage
types that feat offers, and you can use only that damage type with your Elemental Fist attacks until you meet the
feat’s normal prerequisites. A monk with this feat can
use Elemental Fist as if he were a monk of the four winds
(Advanced Player’s Guide 112)

what I'm wondering about is the bit about monk of the four winds, is it merely pertaining to number of uses or damage as well?

It says 'as if he were a monk of the four winds', so it's the whole package. Note that normal monks get the same number of uses of Elemental Fist as monks of the four winds - the only bonus the monk of the four winds get is the damage.

Liberty's Edge

They would use it, in all respects, as a monk of the four winds. That's uses per day and damage.

Since it says "... Elemental Fist as if he were a Monk of the Four Winds.", I would assume that it also applies to the increase in damage that goes along with Elemental Fist from being a Monk of the Four Winds. If others agree with me, this could be very useful for the Dark Phoenix build I just posted about. *big grin*

Now that the elemental damage part is cleared up, there is something I find confusing in that text. It says if you take the Dragon Ferocity feat, you qualify for the Elemental Fist feat even if you don't meeting the prerequisites, but then goes on to explain how you can still use Elemental Fist a certain way until you meet the prerequisites.

In this case, does "qualify" mean that you have access to the Elemental Fist feat, but you can only use one energy type for it until you meet the actual Elemental Fist feat prereqs? That's what I'm thinking it implies, but written as it is... it's slightly confusing. Also, it's like getting three or four feats for the price of one. Half Str bonus on damage rolls, shaken for 1d4 rounds on a crit, free Elemental Fist feat with one energy type, and it increases the elemental damage as per the 4 Winds Elemental Fist ability. That seems a bit much since a Monk of Many Styles could have this feat by 2nd level (and 5th level, normally).

NECRO'd FOR JUSTICE

But yeah, you thought correctly. You must actually take the elemental fist feat to use elemental fist attacks.

Yeah, it just lets you ignore the prerequisites for Elemental Fist, but if you get it you can only choose one energy type, until you DO meet the prerequisites.
