Randomized Campaign - Harrow Deck of Many Things

Gamer Connection

So I noticed this item while leafing through my PDFs today, and it made me think of a campaign idea one of my buddies had floated to me years back, in which the entire driving force is the effects of various draws from a Deck of Many Things. The problem here is, of course, that the GM has to be a master of improvisation, and the game never got off the ground.

Looking over the Harrow version, and some of it's boss effects, I realized that PbPs eliminate this inhibition, and figured I'd give it a go. So here's the run down.

I'm looking for 6 PCs to play in a game in which you will be given the opportunity (very early) to draw from a Harrow Deck of Many things. The results of these draws will determine where the campaign goes next. With 6 PCs taking up to three draws a piece (and some cards forcing additional draws), I imagine we'll get at least three or four story-worthy events. All in all, it'll make for a pretty chaotic and unpredictable game, but it does require some flexible characters, so here are the guidelines...

1) You are starting in Absalom. The centralized location is ideal for the style of this game, as is the nature of the city. You might have ties to any number of organizations, and any number of parties might take an interest in you. From Absalom, you can go pretty much anywhere.

2) You are are members of the Pathfinder Society, though your commitment to them need not be anything beyond a lip-service membership. The PCs are all aware of one another's existence within the society, though you don't know each other by much more than your names and fledgling reputations. Where you were before Absalom and the Society is up to you, and you are free to have ties to other parties so long as they do not conflict with the Pathfinders.

3) Players may be of any alignment, though a party with roughly compatible personalities will be selected.

4) PCs begin at 5th level. All options from the Core Rulebook and the APG are allowed, as are the Magus and Gunslinger classes (the game assumes that advanced firearms do not yet exist, though). Most options from UM and UC will be available, but double-check with me first. It goes without saying that Antagonize is barred. Of the new systems, I'd like to try implementing the Called Shots rules in UC, though if it proves to be problematic, we may well scrap it. Standard starting gold for a character of this level, but no single item can be worth more than 33% of your starting wealth. You should select a single item that has some significance to you, as several cards in the Deck refer to such items.

5) Finally, it goes without saying that you should approach this game with an open mind. PCs with flexible goals or adventurous streaks would be ideal, and you have to accept that several of the cards you may draw will BORK your character. Be willing to embrace this possibility, and have fun with it.

Sure I'll bite. I made this character for a Skype/Maptools dungeon crawl, so I don't really get to play her personality as much as I would like. If that's okay by you, I give you my Merry, Cloistered Cleric

DESCRIPTION

Age 23 Height 5’1” Weight 115 Hair Blonde Eyes Gold
Carrying Capacity Light 26 lbs. Medium 53 lbs Heavy 80lbs

Though clearly lacking in martial ability, Merry appears quite healthy, and is besides exceptionally attractive. Her complexion she owes to her Varisian mother, but her hair and eyes are fair, golden both, with crimson rosettes ringing her pupils.

PERSONALITY

Merry is generally friendly and obliging. She has not an excess of lust, but is exceedingly fond of social gatherings where she can present herself and her skills in the best light. Merry has a strong zeal for freedom, and preserving it in spirit and in practice, from restrictive government, fear, any manner of constraint on life, and the pursuit of happiness and love.

Wholly feminine and very much a Lady, Merry is not one to flaunt her physical beauty when the occasion does not call for it. While traveling, she keeps her hair bound tightly in braids and tucked under a conservative cap not unlike a bonnet. She maintains an almost exhaustive personal hygiene regimen, objectively to ward off disease, but also to prevent unseemly smells and the like. When social situations arise, however, she lets her hair down and dresses quite well.

Dotting for interest. I'm thinking Human Rogue 2/Gunslinger (pistolero) 3

What build are looking at? Standard 20 points and 2 traits?

I have never played a PbP game, but would be willing to give it a go. No hard feelings if you'd rather stick to experience PbPers, though.

I'll check later tonight for some response and, if positive, will put up a character.

EDIT: Human Inquisitor sounds fun.

This sounds awesome! And could definitely be epic in fun! Count me in, though not sure what I'll play just yet.

Uh, I suck at math, so what's 33% of our gold work out to be? Lol

At fifth level, WBL gives you 10,000. 33% is 3300 (well, 3333.3333 repeating, of course).

This could be fun. What point buy will be used? How many traits? What books are OK to use for character creation?

Sovereign Court

Interested I am! Whipping-up a concept story-wise. I'll put together mechanics once some of the trait questions and whatnot above addressed.

I'm interested! I'm thinking a sorcerer of the elemental (water) bloodline. I've applied to various pbps with this character, so I'll have to tweak him to fit in Absolom, but I should be able to do that without much problem. I -love- when my characters get borked, so this seems right up my alley.

I'm interested as well. This is a character for an old pbp that never really took off that would possibly work for this. I'll need to redo his backstory a bit and his level though. Basically, he's an aging soldier who's lost any real reason to live, but doesn't have the courage to end it. Just the sort of fellow who would pull cards from a deck of many things just to see what the hells would happen. :)

Edit: Oh, hey Merry! It's Mott... And, no, I don't always just play fighter types :P

Definitely sounds like something I would be interested in, but it looks like I might be a little late to get a spot here, given the interest that's already been expressed by others. I guess I'll keep an eye on this, so if anyone is dropping out or anything, I'd be happy to take a spot in this.

If you want, I can submit a character concept anyway for consideration.

Edit: I just read up on the Harrow Deck of Many Things. I have to agree that there is a LOT you could do with even a single drawing of the card to make the game interesting, I'm really exited to see where this goes. Even if I don't get in, I'll probably follow the events of this RP.

Hey, wow. Don't tell anyone I might use the same character for some RP :P Not that i don't enjoy the Crawlin' mind ya. Just sometimes I like to flesh a character out, too.

No worries. I completely understand. :)

@martinaj: I redid my backstory to fit with this game and sort of adjusted the character stats and whatnot. It'll take some tweaking still, but it's pretty close to what it would be. Happy to make changes if you think it's needed.

Description:

Standing six foot one, there is something imposing about this man that can't be explained by his size alone. His dark hair hangs disheveled about his face, dull green eyes peering out beneath his jaggedly cut bangs. His skin, baring the scars of fights past, is tanned as one who spends much of his time outdoors. At 200 pounds, he seems to be all muscle, not yet feeling the touch of his 33 years. It is, though, his eyes that are perhaps the most intimidating. There is something akin to resignation there, a man given over to his dismal fate. A man nearly perfectly empty.

His clothing is non-descript. He wears a worn brown cloak over his chainmail, torn leather boots on his feet, and an age-ravaged pack upon his back. Across his back is slung a steel shield that once bore some emblem or another, but which has now been systematically scratched away. The only item to draw any attention what-so-ever is the intimidating pick that he carries at his side: Large, heavy, sharp and so very obviously well cared for.

Backstory:
Marcy Lull's childhood was, by and large, unhappy. His father, a pilot employed to guide ships through the hazardous harbor of Absalom, was a man of many addictions. Not least of these issues were his alcoholism and his incessant gambling. It was these two things that drove Marcy's mother away when he was only nine. His life became a dreary chain of beatings administered by his drunken father's hand; beatings the growing boy would take with stoic resolve, unwilling to return violence upon his only remaining family.

Eager to leave the life his father struggled to maintain in The Puddles, Marcy joined the city watch at the age of sixteen. His natural prowess moved him through the ranks at a steady pace, achieving sergeant by the age of 23. It was at this time that he met and soon married his wife Gladys, renting a small apartment in the Ivy District. They were blessed with a daughter, Maggie, soon after. And though their marriage was happy enough to begin with, it was not to last.

As Maggie grew to be a toddler, Marcy found himself more and more often frequenting the taverns and theatres nearby. Though he recognized his father in his actions, he often denied the similarity. I'm nothing like that old bastard, he told himself on more than one occasion. One particular tavern became almost as a second home to the soldier during this time. The Dark Fox Inn was known for catering to the more nefarious crowds, and Marcy's darkening mood seemed to fit right in. Drinking well into the nights with his fellow soldiers, he would, as often as not, dissappear upstairs at some point in the evening, one provocatively dressed waif or another on his arm. It was this, in fact, which garnered him the nickname "Lucky", though if the moniker was ever used in front of his wife, he would tell her it was his luck in the skirmishes and brawls that gained him the name.

Though he seemed none to particular on who he bedded during those years, there was in fact one woman he was particularly drawn to - a half-elven bard by the name of Tari. Though she never did allow him to have his way with her, he spent much of his time in her company. She taught him to play the ocarina, a task which earned him much ribbing from his companions. But it was the attention he showed her that would mark the beginning of the end for him, for it wasn't long before his wife's suspicions were confirmed. She found the two together in a dark corner of the Dark Fox one night, hand in hand and speaking in soft tones to one another. She confronted the pair, shouting and throwing dinnerware before storming out. Tari left town shortly after. Marcy did not return home for three days. And when he finally arrived, his head pounding with the just-ended binge, he found both Gladys and Maggie gone.

Over the next few years Marcy's drinking spiralled out of control. Finally, resigning his commision with the city watch before he was fired, he returned to his father's home in The Puddles. The two drank and fought together for over a year before the old man died peacefully in his sleep, leaving Marcy to fend for himself. He was able to find occasional work with the local Pathfinder's guild, making enough money to support his habit, and gaining the opportunity to do a bit of travelling. Secretly he would hope on these trips to come upon some sign of Gladys and, in particular, his daughter Maggie. But as the years passed by all hope of that slipped away.

He had little to show for his work for the Pathfinders. Most of his profits he drank away, or lost at dice and cards, or spent on women of ill repute; though he did collect a few nice pieces of gear here and there. The first of these was a heavy pick, finally crafted and, he believed, enchanted. As is the way with some soldier's, he gave it a name, choosing that of his lost daughter, Maggie. And now, at the age of 33, Marcy volunteers for more and more difficult assignments. Whether he is simply looking for excitement, or hoping for a guiltless death his superiors are not sure. But so long as he contiues to volunteer, they will continue to offer him work.

Ah, appologies. Yes, 20 point buy, 2 traits from the APG or the Inner Sea Primer. Recruitment will be open for a couple of days, becuase I want to make sure we can get a nice, eclectic party that can function together while still maintaining a healthy degree of inter-party strife.

Rolling hp

4d10 ⇒ (8, 10, 3, 7) = 28

An inquiry, might we use non-core races, such as the Aasimar?

also rolling for hp 4d8 ⇒ (7, 1, 4, 1) = 13

Ouch, it appears my luck with cleric dice continues...

A few non-standard races, yes. As this is supposed to be something of a kitchen sink campaign, I think we'll allow changelings, fetchlings, the four genie-derivatives from the Bestiary 2, dhampirs, tieflings, and aasimars. Beyond that, you are allowed, and even encouraged, to make full use of the alternative racial abilities in the APG.

As far as HP goes, I'd prefer to keep things steady. Sorry, it looks like a lot has slipped my mind! You get max hp at 1st level, but after that, everyone gets 50% of the max roll +1, thus a d4 gets 3hp per level, a d6 gets 4hp, a d8 gets 5hp, a d10 gets 6 hp, and the mighty d12 gets 7hp.

Beyond that, some kind of character history is going to be manditory for acceptance. I'm going to give the Harrow Deck of Many Things another read during my lunch today, and then compile a list of questions for PCs to answer about themselves and their past.

Sweet!I have added a backstory to my profile, but I will probably come back and tweak it now and again before you call recruitment up.

Looking foreword to answering your questions, as it always helps me to solidify a character.

Clumber here. Since you said you were still accepting submissions, I thought I would post my character concept for you approval. I left out most of his stats as I haven't finalized those yet, but the gist of my character is there and I might as well wait for you to approve the character or not before continuing.

Acid here, and here's my character. I've yet to update his stats, and I may tweak his history some more, but it should give you an idea of what I'm going for.

Ok, I figure if this is going be a random game, why not attempt to make a random character:

I will roll 1d20 for races, -4. races will be alphabetical from Core then in the order you posted the non-core races above.

1d20 - 4 ⇒ (8) - 4 = 4 Half-Elf

Class will also be 1d20, +1. Order will be 11 Core, then the 6 from APG, then Magus and the 3 from UC(Didn't count Anti-Paladin as that's an evil class that doesn't seem like it would mesh well with the concept of the game.)

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18 Magus.

So Half-Elf Magus. Coolness :)

Think I'll probably go straight Magus, though I am not positive. Will work up a character over the next few days.

Shadow Lodge

Id like to put forth a Human Witch of the GraveWalker Archetype. I'm working up stats now

I really like the concept you have here of rolling up your character randomly, but I feel I should just make one correction to your system. Adding/subtracting from a d20 roll doesn't increase/decrease the range of the roll. 1d20+1 has a range of 2-21, but there are still only 20 options in there.

You can just do this: 1d21 ⇒ 2

Ya, didn't really know using any number was possible for die rolling. Still, its random enough so I'll keep it lol.

Sovereign Court

Dreadfully torn between two concepts right now!

Concept one is a mystic theurge of narrow focus in himself, broad contempt in others, and a lust for power and dominion matched only by his fear of his own mortality. His aims would be leveled at conquest abroad while preventing Death from conquering him!

Concept two is an skill-based inquisitor of Gozreh, seeking to stem the perversions of the natural order. Preserving the world and her deity, she seeks to be the fulcrum of the natural balance, her judgment stayed only by the will of the firmament above and seas below.

A very difficult choice between the two. Arg! Will make a decision soon.

Alright, here are the questions that I'd like everyone to answer. After you've answered these questions (and your answers need not be lengthy), I'll begin compiling a list of candidates, and make a selection of 6 PCs at the end of this weekend (Sunday evening, GMT + 11). So, here we go.

What is your name?

How old are you?

Do you have any personal goals? What are they?

Where are you from?

Who is your best friend?

Who is your most potent ally?

Who is your greatest enemy?

Have you ever killed anyone? Who?

What is your most prized possession?

What is your most closely guarded secret?

Do you owe any debts? What are they?

Do you have any old grudges? What are they?

What is your single greatest regret?

Of what accomplishment are you most proud?

For Convenience:
What is your name?
Merrideth Yllanys, although I am more commonly known by Merry.

How old are you?
Why? If you are intent to ask a lady her age, is she required to answer? Would it not be more aluring if she were to demure and say 'I am as old as you require that I may be pleased to make your acquaintance.'

Do you have any personal goals? What are they?
I wish to own and operate my own salon, of sorts, a business where men and women may come and converse at their leisure, to promote knowledge and understanding among different faiths in a climate that withholds judgment.

Where are you from?
My father's people are from Nirmanthas, a free country in the North. What little we have is hard earned, and none are idle in their pursuits of life or happiness. My birth mother's people are wanderers, dancers and musicians.

Who is your best friend?
My partner, Rana. She is Osirani, fierce and beautiful. The pay I collected from the one of the errands I ran for the Pathfinders went to her purchase and I freed her to pursue her own life. She stayed beside me, because she believed in my vision. Her contribution to my pursuit is invaluable.

Who is your most potent ally?
My good lord Arshea. He lends me the power to minister to and protect my companions, and also to smite evil in the persistent war against them who prevail in darkness and ignorance.

Who is your greatest enemy?
My greatest enemies are worship evil gods with intent to further their ill will on this plane.

Have you ever killed anyone? Who?
Goodness no, I am a healer and a lover, not a combatant. I have supported them who have laid waste to evil foes, however.

What is your most prized possession?
My mother's Kapenia I have learned in my studies that it is the history of her clan. I wish some day to learn where they are, and let them know what became of her, and of course, where I came from.

What is your most closely guarded secret?
I find the Pathfinder society repugnant. Their thirst for knowledge, while admirable, does not sit well with me. Privacy must be respected, for the living and the dead.

Do you owe any debts? What are they?
I should hope not. I attend my ledger regularly, and pay for all my purchases with hard coin. And while I may lend a coin or one hundred here or there, I do not do so unless I am financially culpable to, and never expect to receive the sum back.

Do you have any old grudges? What are they?
No, what use is it to dwell on such trivial topics. Evil abounds, in bad government, in the institution of slavery. What is one trifling event or set back perpetrated by a single entity to the greater struggle for good?

What is your single greatest regret?
Some nights, that I was not born a man, with the strength to shape the world with my own hands. Others, that I did not appreciate the quiet strength of my father and step-mother better when I lived in Nirmanthas. Although I have sent them many missives detailing my life and accomplishments here, I do not feel as though I am as close to them as I should be.

Of what accomplishment are you most proud?
That what I own is mine, and I am free to give of it to any I choose. I have aided others in the continuing struggle against evil, and have assisted in attaining many victories.

I'm going to have to bow out of this one, as interesting as it seems. Good luck everyone!

Merry, love the first person responses. Brings in some personality. Hope you don't mind if I borrow/steal that. :)

Answers:

What is your name?
"Marcy Lull. Though there's some who know me as Lucky."

How old are you?
"Pushing thirty-four. And if I were you, I'd think twice before you say 'Too old'..."

Do you have any personal goals? What are they?
Several long moments turn into an uncomfortable silence, and it seems he won't answer. Yet, before the next question can be asked - or the man summarily dismissed - he sighs. "I had a daughter once. She'd be a teenager now, I guess. Haven't seen her in awhile." He falls silent again, his gaze dropping to the tabletop in thought. "When I'm on the road," he continues at last, "I keep my eye out. You know? I've got some explaining to do to that little girl. So, you're looking for a goal? I guess that's the only one I've got left."

Where are you from?
"Right here. Born and raised in this damned city."

Who is your best friend?
"Ha!" He leans back in his chair, genuinely amused. Tossing the pair of dice he had been toying with onto the table, he looks up, his grin fading slightly. "Look. I spend a lot of my time on the road these days. It ain't exactly easy making folks acquaintance. But, if you need a name, then I'd have to say O'radine. Qadiran fellow. He's been with me since I started taking work for the Society. He isn't much to look at, but damn, when he gets a little drink in him..." He trails off, chuckling at some memory or another.

Who is your most potent ally?
Marcy rubs his temples for a moment. "Strangest damned line of questions I've heard in a while." Shaking his head, he resigns himself to the process and offers up an answer. "Lieutenant Turshy. He got me outta the City Watch before they could hang me, for one. He's connected, as they say. Father's on the council. And that son-of-a-whore Turshy could fight. Guess you'd have to with a name like that. Learned everything I know from him."

Who is your greatest enemy?
"Well, I probably shouldn't be telling you about that. But, since I need the work... I made a trek into Kyonin, Pathfinder assignment you know. About two years ago, if I remember right. Anyway, had a bit of trouble. The good kind of trouble, if you were to ask me. But the girl's family didn't see it that way." His eyes grow distant for a moment, remembering, and he absently reaches for the dice again. "Well, she had a bit of royal blood in her, though I didn't know that at the time. Wouldn't of cared, most likely. She wasn't no princess or anything, don't get me wrong. Second cousin, or something along those lines. But close enough to the royal family that, well, it upset a few 'notable' elves. Got the hells out of there, once I got word. I hear tell they been looking for me. But who knows. I guess if they want to string me up for that, well, maybe it was worth it."

Have you ever killed anyone? Who?
"Nobody that didn't have it coming," he grins without humor, tossing the dice and retrieving them again. "Who? Well, you recall I mentioned Turshy getting me out of a scrape in the Watch? That all came about on account of an elf by the name of Mosas. He was a joker, that one. Knew him a bit by reputation, though I never met him. Well, never met him more than that once. We were on patrol down in the Puddles. He was in the wrong place, I guess. Came bobbing out of an alley at the wrong moment, you know." He pauses, looking up, his gaze cold. "Well, I had a bit of a drinking problem back then. Still do, some say, though I don't see it as much of a problem myself. Anyway, I was more than a bit hung-over. On edge, you know? And there he is, popping outta the dark right the hells in front of me." Another long pause, Marcy considering the dice in his hand. "Ran him through. Damned if I didn't. Didn't even think about it; just happened. He bled out pretty quick and well, s~** if all hells didn't break loose after that. Turshy hushed it all up, and I got to resign rather than swing from a tree. I hear old Mosas wasn't a bad kid, though. Damned shame, I guess. There's been a few more over the years. But that was the first, and the one that sticks out in my mind."

What is your most prized possession?
Marcy nods toward the heavy pick leaning against the table at his right hand. "That'd be Maggie there. Fine piece of gear, that."

What is your most closely guarded secret?
"Wouldn't be a damned secret if I told you, would it?" He looks up at the man seated across from him, his gaze a mix of both wry humor and challenge. "Fine," he sighs. "I'm a drunk? That ain't no secret. Cheated on my wife? Everybody who knows me knows that. I don't exactly play things close to the vest, I guess." He tosses the dice again. Without even glancing at the outcome he snatches them back up. "I'm a damned coward. There's something nobody's likely to guess about me. Don't get me wrong now. I ain't afraid of no fight. The thing is, I should have fallen on my own blade a long time ago. Would've saved everyone a lot of trouble. Damned near let 'em hang me back in the Watch. Turshy talked me outta that. Bastard. But I go on clinging to a life that nobody in their right mind would want. Least of all me. Just can't work up the courage to end it." Marcy looks around, trying to spot one of the barmaids.

Do you owe any debts? What are they?
"I owe Turshy my life. And O'radine as well. I owe my daughter an explanation... But if you're talking about coins... No. I spend nearly everything I get, or loose it at the tables. But never any more than what I've got. Man's gotta have some principals."

Do you have any old grudges? What are they?
"Grudges?" Marcy gives up on finding the barmaid for the moment, returning his attention to his companion. "You must be talking about my old man. Ruined his life and mine, that son-of-a-b&#~*." For a moment it seems like he will elaborate, but instead he merely sinks back in his chair, falling moodily silent.

What is your single greatest regret?
"Almost easy, that one. I regret being just like my gods-damned father; out drinking, or whoring, when I should've been home with my little girl. Should've been a better example to her. Should've..."

Of what accomplishment are you most proud?
Marcy let's out a barking laugh. "I told you about that little Kyonin lass..."

Questions/Answers:
What is your name?

Belroar Davhand the Third. I was named for my father, and his father before him. I fear that the name shall die with me, but I am honored to bear it nonetheless.

How old are you?

As much as the knowledge pains me, I am already 47 years old. My father died just shy of forty; it makes me wonder what time I have left myself.

Do you have any personal goals? What are they?

If only I did have a goal. To know where to go with my life, to know what's out there for me...that is my goal. Just to find my place in the world before my moment has passed.

Who is your best friend?

Despite my time in this city, I have never truly cultivated very many attachments. My stay here was always planned to be temporary. At least I've been telling myself that for more than twenty years. I would say I have grown close to Victor. He used to run a tavern here in the city, but that was almost a decade ago before he went out of business. Now he's running with some sort of merchant caravan, and I see him for only a few days every couple of months. It's not a bad arrangement, though. We're able to catch up during that time and it gives me something to look forward to on those days when the world is looking its bleakest. I know some other guys who work for the Pathfinder Guild, but I've never grown particularly close to any of them. They take their jobs far more seriously than I do, but for me its just somewhere I am I my life until I can move on.

Who is your most potent ally?

The Gods. Or whoever gifted me with these powers. I have spent my life training them for the day I find out my true purpose in life, and some days this power is the only thing that keeps me going. Without it, I would be just another man. I depend largely on myself, and though I've certainly earned a few favors over the years, I need no help. Wherever my path is taking me, it takes me there alone.

Who is your greatest enemy?

Death? The specter I see over my shoulder at every second, creeping closer to me with each passing day to take my life before I've ever even truly lived it? But no, I suppose my real enemy would have to be "Finicky" Trent. When I first arrived in the city, I borrowed a few hundred silvers from him to live off of until I could find a proper job. When I found myself unable to make good on my debt, Trent offered me another deal. A job. I jumped at the opportunity, with no idea what I had gotten myself into.

I worked for him for the better part of 20 years to pay off my debt, and when I finally got out Trent promised me he would make my life hell. And that he did, finding work since then has been an almost impossible task in this city, and the only place I can turn to anymore for work is the Pathfinder Guild.

Have you ever killed anyone? Who?

I've killed more people than I can count, and it's gotten easier over the years. I take no pleasure in it, but by this point I have just come to accept that it's a part of life. You can't have death without life.

The first though, I can still remember the first man I killed. It was back when I was first working for Trent...I wouldn't say the memory haunts me, but those cold, dead eyes feature prominently in many a sleepless night.

What is your most prized possession?

This dagger...it belonged to my father, and it bears the seal of our house on the handle. It's by far the most valuable thing I still own, but I could never sell it. It's the only thing I have left of that past life, and I even if I could go back, I doubt I would. But it is important to remember, and so I carry this blade with me wherever I go.

What is your most closely guarded secret?

I suppose one thing I've never told yo anyone before is...that prophecy. When I was much younger, I met a priest who told me I had a destiny before me, that I would achieve great things in my lifetime. My family never knew the reason I wasn't content where I was, but it was that prophecy, the knowledge that there would be far more to my life than what they wanted for me. They would have laughed, but I knew the truth. And there's still something out there for me, I know it.

Do you owe any debts? What are they?

Money. When I was younger I had never wanted for money, I had everything I could need and more. It was hard, adapting to a new lifestyle like I did. I am ashamed to admit how much I borrowed, those first few years. It's made the years hell for me, and I still owe hundreds to series of money lenders across this city. I was a young man, and foolish, so now I must pay the price for it in my waning years.

Do you have any old grudges? What are they?

I have never really forgiven my brother, Braden. I would gladly have given up the family holdings to him, but the manner in which he inherited them after my father's death while I was away, and how he treated me upon my return...I have little love for him. And though I care for the rest of my family, my sister who I recently learned has had a third child, my mother who grows older every day, it is because of my brother that I rarely see them anymore.

What is your single greatest regret?

My greatest regret is ending up where I am now. Half a lifetime and I have next to nothing to show for it. It's not that I've made a series of bad decisions to put myself where I am today, I just haven't made any decisions at all. I've taken no risks, done nothing spectacular that I can look back on with fondness. I know I still have time, some time at least, to become something more. I hope.

Of what accomplishment are you most proud?

Despite where I am now, I still think that leaving was the best decision of my life. I have lived off of what I can earn with my own two hands, and I have seen much and more of the world than I ever could have if I had let myself stay tied down. Life hasn't been easy, but it shouldn't be. I have to work through the hard times to get to the good, and the good has been a long time coming.

Count me interested too. I'll post everything sometime today or tomorrow.

How old are you? I think I'm about 24 or so.

Do you have any personal goals? if so what are they I'd like to learn more about who I am. I can't remember much beyond the last few months. There was some sort of fight or accident maybe.

Who is your best friend? I don't know any more. I'm pretty sure I had one growing up, but ugh, I can't remember much other than a blurry face when. I hate this!

Who is your most potent ally? At the moment, myself. I don't really know many more people, and nobody I can trust.

Who is your greatest enemy? This hells be damned memory loss!! I can't remember my family, my friends, if I had a girlfriend, or wife, or anything! I'm lucky I even remember my name

Have you ever killed anyone? Who? Probably, I am trained in combat after all. But not since I woke up a few months ago.

What is your most closely guarded secret? How should I know? If I have one, I clearly can't remember what it is.

Do you owe any debts? What are they? I guess you could say I owe a serious debt to the people who found me and took care of me, after whatever happened that caused my memory loss.

Do you have any old grudges? What are they? None that I can remember, which I suppose is both a blessing and a curse.

What is your single greatest regret? Currently? Not being able to remember anything beyond several months ago.

Of what accomplishment are you most proud? Right now, I'd say it would have to be stopping those little kids last week from being bullied and picked on.

Still working on stats for my bard, but I wanted to get his answers out here.

Answers:

So you wish to hear my tale? How delightful. I love recounting my adventures!

I am Larramie Peq, born and raised here in glorious Absalom, and have been an adventurer extraordinaire for about 45 of my 48 years. Well, maybe a few less, but I have always had an adventurer's spirit.

Goals? Why I wish to unearth the treasure, slay the foul monster, rescue the fair maiden. I LIVE for danger. Excitement. Sure, I could live in relative safety as a baker or some such. But I ask you, would that truly be living?

Who is my best friend? Wait, is this some kind of interview for prospective employment? Well then, you sir are my best friend, if you are hear to offer me a chance for adventure!

My most potent allies are my courageous spirit, and the luck that gets me through the worst of scrapes. My greatest enemy is clearly myself. At least from the standpoint of who is most likely to kill me. *Laughs*

I've killed some people, about that I shall not lie. But they were all villains most foul. I try to avoid conflict if possible. I would call myself more of a lover than a fighter.

Aren't you the crafty one, trying to pry secrets out of one such as myself. Alas, even if I were willing to indulge your question, I simply cannot answer it, for my most closely guarded secret is that hidden locale, that long lost artifact or civilization that I have yet to discover. Much as my most prized possession is the treasure I have yet to unearth.

Debts? Well, I am indebted to my parents for gifting me with these supernaturally exquisite looks. I am also indebted to my tailor for enhancing said looks with my perfect outfits. If you speak of monetary debt, than of that I have none. My profession tends to be quite lucrative.

Do I have any grudges? Well, I should say that I personally hold no grudges against anyone. However, I can't speak to the rivals that I may have bested in my exploits of exploration and acquisition. Some people can stay bitter for so long, it seems.

My only regret, sometimes when I am sitting alone in my cups, is that I never bothered to have any children. But that regret soon fades away when I am enjoying the thrill of adventure, or the fruits of my labors. *wink*

As to my accomplishments, I could hardly choose one to speak of as my most proud. While it is true that I have done many fantastic things, I try not to brag too much about my prowess. I would rather others witness my abilities and decide for themselves. That said, shall we adventure together, friend?

Alright, and the winners are...

Marcy "Lucky" Lull
Merrideth "Merry" Yllanys
Davhand
Garvin The Caretaker (Though keep in mind that Pharasma explicitly forbids the creation or control of undead. As a gravewalker, you might want to change your patron deity.)
Morgal the Uncouth
Monkeygod (The amnesia thing is just too fun)

If you six would be so kind as to direct yourselves here, we'll begin to get things underway.

I really appreciate all the interest this game has received, and sorry for those of you who didn't make it in - there were a ton of cool ideas, and tempting as it may have been, I just don't feel that I, as a GM, would be able to manage a table (even an imaginary one) of more than six players.

questions:
What is your name?
I am Solace Franzir, but my friends call me Sol.
How old are you?
By whose calendar? If you're going by the standard, I'm 18. If you gauge by street experience, then I am much older.

Do you have any personal goals? What are they?
At the end of a long journey, having a weapon at your side, a horse between your knees and a woman that loves you seems to be the best thing to live for. In the end though, just belonging somewhere is important. If you don't have a home, then anything else doesn't really matter. Although, finding my sister is a high priority.

Where are you from?
I grew up on the streets of Alkenstar. That was a long time, let me tell you.

Who is your best friend?
I would have to say that Vanderon, the woman that taught me how to use a gun and treat people with respect. She's not much older than I am, but she knows how to handle a gun and has my respect. So yes, she would be my best friend.

Who is your most potent ally?
I'm not sure I've found a true ally yet. I know I have a couple of aqaintences, but if I had to say then Vanderon would also be my more potent ally.

Who is your greatest enemy?
Grishnar, a half-orc thug who tried to press me into the service of his gang. Because I managed to escape, he took it out on my sister and her family. Her family's dead and I haven't seen her since and I want him just as dead.

Have you ever killed anyone? Who?
A couple of Grishnar's thugs, and some monstrous creatures in my journey from Alkenstar to Absolom

What is your most prized possession?
I'd have to say it's a signet ring given me by my mother last time I saw her. She said it was my father's, but I haven't found anything out about it yet.

What is your most closely guarded secret?
According to my mother, my father was a nobleman, and had no heirs when he and my mother were together. I guess that would make me some kind of noble, but I definitely don't feel it.

Do you owe any debts? What are they?
Nope, I've been lucky enough to just buy what I can afford. Although, I do fee a debt of honor to Vanderon.
Do you have any old grudges? What are they?

What is your single greatest regret?
Leaving my home and not being there when that thug attacked my family.

Of what accomplishment are you most proud?
Being able to join the Society.

Alright then, thank you for your interest in my character. I'll roll up the rest of the stats on him today, hopefully. Really looking forward to this game.

Dangit, I wish I'd seen this thread sooner!

Arrrgh.... I was ninja'd with the choices.. LOL

This is a thread I'll keep up on and lurking in though. I'm curious to see how it works out. :)
