Though clearly lacking in martial ability, Merry appears quite healthy, and is besides exceptionally attractive. Her healthy complexion she owes to her Varisian mother, but her hair and eyes are fair, golden both, with crimson rosettes ringing her pupils. PERSONALITY Merry is generally friendly and obliging. She has not an excess of lust, but is exceedingly fond of social gatherings where she can present herself and her skills in the best light. Merry has a strong zeal for freedom, and preserving it in spirit and in practice, from restrictive government, fear, any manner of constraint on life, and the pursuit of happiness and love. Wholly feminine and very much a Lady, Merry is not one to flaunt her physical beauty when the occasion does not call for it. While traveling, she keeps her silver hair bound tightly in braids and tucked under a conservative cap not unlike a bonnet. She maintains an almost exhaustive personal hygiene regimen, objectively to ward off disease, but also to prevent unseemly smells and the like. When social situations arise, however, she lets her hair down and dresses quite well. History:
Merry is the daughter of Stavian and Grace Yllanys, a lumber merchant and innkeep by trade. Stavian recalled with pride that Merry’s mother, Iolana was a dancer with a traveling troupe that caught his eye and stole his heart. Unfortunately, her pregnancy was extremely difficult and despite the aide of magicians, Iolana died in child birth. The midwife, a devotee of Pharasma, was awed that she were present and assisted in the birth of an Aasimar child, and informed Stavian that their daughter's blood was of the angels. Stavian, recognizing the need for a positive female influence in his daughter’s life, swiftly married Grace. Their marriage was not the most passionate, perhaps, but in Merry’s formative years, she knew nothing but their love and respect for each other, and Grace bore Stavian many lusty sons with little difficulty. When Merry became of age, Stavian, recognizing that Merry's special blood lent itself to a variety of talents his small town could not utilize sent her away to Absalom to study. Though Merry’s training consisted of many hours a day in reflection upon knowledge, her childhood conditioning in contributing to society did not allow idleness to become her. In her free hours, she volunteered to assist an alchemist and study his trade, and with more than a little passion for fashion, she oft visited the tailor as well. An attractive youth with a vibrant personality, Merry was oft courted, and her quick wit more like than not proved to be insightful, and it was quite exciting to be among “society” for a time in the evenings. She did not earn so much as some of her… more mercenary sisters, a hot meal and more than a few tankards of ale and cups of wine, but her engagements were more of a friendly and obliging social nature. And yes, there were some, strangers mostly, who misunderstood her intent, but Merry’s magics proved helpful in relieving herself from those awkward situations. Merry first learned of her Empyreal patron during her exhaustive studies. As the child of a merchant in the lumber trade, it was always implied that she should take up the cause of Erastil, and for a time her attraction to the aspect of family and her reverence for nature satisfied, but she had the nagging feeling that it were the easy choice, and least free. In an anxious dream, her lord appeared to her, first in the guise of her mother, then in that of her secret love, and offered her freedom and his power. Merry accepted, but being devoted to her father and her family, and quite aware of the needs of the community at large as well, she retains quite a healthy respect for Old Deadeye’s faithful. It was in her capacity as a courtesan that Merry was approached for membership in the Pathfinder society. As one who entertained many dignitaries, adventurers and world wise travelers, Merry was in a position to learn quite a bit of information the lodge might use for whatever their aims were. Merry said the words of the oath, but felt no more obliged to them than she did to any other authority. The coin they paid her for what little, at least how it appeared to her, information she did provide was fair. Occasionally she would be asked to accompany an expedition, which she did begrudgingly, providing support in her typical capacities. She watched several of her associates take the mark of the Society, but never felt the inclination. Arshea taught that her body was a temple, and hers was decorated well enough naturally not to allow for its plunder by a foreign power. CONCEPT A chaotic, goodly, and curious soul, Merry would be eager to pull from the deck to try something new. Her Emperyal Lord Arshea is not conventional, and neither is she. Besides, all she has to look foreword to should she return home is a quiet life tending the pedestrian aches and pains of the folk of Erastil, who are unlikely to understand the cultural flair she has gotten a taste of in her studies in Absalom. She is a support caster with several important knowledge skills, but also versatile in that she can and does cast minor enchantments well and is extremely good at social interactions. While not as effective as a bard, Merry can fill that role as well. |
