So I read through the Qinggong monk in UM and ran into a question I’m having trouble finding the answer to. Powers that replicate feats last 1 round, for those that replicate spells refer to the spells duration, but what about a ki power that replicates a monk ability?

For abilities like diamond soul or perfect self I assume they work like the normal ability simply replacing the appropriate ability you are taking them in place of, which is fine but then I see timeless body (monk ability, 1 ki point), and tongue of the sun and moon (monk ability, 1 ki point).

Timeless Body (Ex): At 17th level, a monk no longer takes penalties to his ability scores for aging and cannot be magically aged. Any such penalties that he has already taken, however, remain in place. Age bonuses still accrue, and the monk still dies of old age when his time is up.

Tongue of the Sun and Moon (Ex): A monk of 17th level or higher can speak with any living creature.

Ok, what’s going on, 1 ki point for what? For tongue of the sun and moon your going to need more then 1 round since that’s a whole 6 seconds of conversation, and any duration seems strange for timeless body as you aren’t going to be able to keep penalties from natural aging at bay for very long O.o

I really don’t understand why either would have a ki cost at all but giving that they do what am I missing?

Anyone? Not sure if the silence is suppose to mean no one knows, cares, or can believe I missed it, but I'm still looking for an answer if anyone can help.

...semi-shameless bump

From what I'm reading, it looks like if you get the monk ability, you get the monk ability as-written in Core.

Well, that's the way I would assume it should work but then I'm not sure because of the, 1 ki point that appears by the ability. Quivering palm has it too, though in its case it says 2 ki points, and I assume that means you can use it multiple time each time use requiring 2 ki points which is interesting.

But then I look at others like the 2 mentioned above and they don't make sense to me. So I don't know if it's a mistake or if I keep missing something when I'm looking over it.

In either case, thanks for responding :)

That is weird. FAQed. I can only assume that the ki cost is a mistake.

for the Tongue of the Sun and the Moon the Ki would be to allow you to use the ability, so you can speak with any creature with language IF you expend a Ki point. Obviously, Timeless Body it doesn't make sense

I agree, that seems to be what it says, but for how long? It doesn't give any kind of duration and it's needed. Feats last for a single round but as I mentioned above a 6 second conversation doesn't seem particularly useful. A specific duration needs stated somewhere IF that is how it's intended to work. That or just get rid of the ki cost altogether.

... one-time activation cost?

Yeah, weird.
