Magic Item: Teleport stepping disk

Homebrew and House Rules

Here is a magic item, my character and his companions made up in his campaign in the 1980s, he was a 14th level cleric of Thor named Boris Broderic, a Druid named Lumavin, a Ranger named Thargon Green, and an elven wizard Nogar, we set up strongholds on an island in a vast ocean we were exploring, and yet we wanted to maintain contact with the capital city of Gloryhelm, from which we came, so we crafted two Teleport stepping disks, a disk 1 inch thick and 10 feet in diameter made out of solid silver. On the side of the stepping disk is a crystal ball for scrying.

When one scrys a certain location an illusion of the place is projected around the stepping disk of the place being scryed, upon utterance of the command word "Teleport" every person and object placed on the teleport stepping disk is teleported to that location, it is a one way teleport, teleporting whats on the disk to the scryed location. A twin teleport stepping disk was crafted in the distant city of Gloryhelm with the same properties. Typically one disk was set to teleport its objects and creatures to the other stepping disk with no chance of era, to other places one either teleported high or low, so we aimed high and took into account that we would fall a certain distance when teleporting to unfamiliar locations scryed on the disk's crystal ball. The disk was rather heavy, to transport it, we placed it on a raft and towed if from a ship. If used in a Pathfinder game, what level would this magic item be, and what experience points would you say it should have?

It sounds like a teleport item in conjunction with a scry spell. Technically you could just have the resident wizard cast these spells or use boots of teleportation. Not calculating number of members you can carry, but that's able to negotiate with extra-dimensional spaces.

Or to simplify make a single teleport without error item and reduce cost for difficulty of use (big and heavy to carry). Though I recommend limiting usefulness further to reduce cost, but I dont know how In that case you don't really need a crystal ball since you only need the vaguest description of the location. Plus now scry is for individuals, not locations so that could be a monkey wrench in your plans.

Boots of teleportation aren't good for teleporting whole wagon loads of stuff, and I think you meant Helm of Teleportation, I never heard of boots of teleportation, or a Helm of Jumping.

Cast Ant haul on everyone-->pick up wagon loads of stuff since that is now within everyone's carrying capacity --> Teleport--> Profit.

Also portable hole's are great for this.

ALso there's a new spell in ultimate magic called Ice Crystal Teleport that allows you to teleport unwilling creatures. I'm not sure if it work's on stuff, but I don't see why it shouldn't. Just ask your DM to allow it. If he/she says no revert to the ant haul plan.

Of course the magic item does not tie up a character, it can do teleport after teleport without supervision from a character who has to cast the teleport spell. The item's purpose is to facilitate commerce between two distant points on the globe, a first level character can use it, it is preset to teleport to the other disk, it takes a wizards to use the attached crystal ball to set it to teleport somewhere else.

Greater teleport carpet (though you can make it a big heavy stone, horse cart, etc if you want. I just like the idea of a big circular carpet)

With the stylized carpet a Person standing in the center can imagine a location and teleport to it. A maximum of "X" other people/goods can be teleported with the carpet. If used for commerce it might be a good idea to make it a small item that can be attached to a cart (or other goods carrying thing) and removed to add to a new cart. Think of the bedknob from the movie Bedknobs and broomsticks.

A carpet, you can roll up and take with you, hence it can be stolen, a big heavy silver disk, not so much. A lot of magic items are designed to be portable, this one is not. The reason it is not is the character who made it doesn't want to be tied up teleporting people here and there, when he's got some adventuring to do, and if it was something like a carpet, some thief can easily roll it up and walk away, and the PC would have to stand guard over it to make sure it is not stolen instead of going on adventures. If he takes the item with him, then all trade and commerce grinds to a halt. People on the island do not like to be dependent on the "lord of the Island" for transport to the big city and back, as the lord has better things to do, like adventuring instead of transporting every peasant who wants to bring his crops to market.

Instead someone collects a toll for the use of the teleport disk.

Um...It's a teleport item. If someone wanted to seal it couldnt they simply teleport away with it, regardless of its consistency?

Perhaps just permanent teleportition circle network is what you're lookign for.

It doesn't teleport itself, only what's sitting on top of it. The objects and creatures teleported arrive at the destination without the teleport disk. It has much in common with the Star Trek Transporters, only it doesn't "beam up" it only "beams down" One has to stand on top of the disk to be teleported and after one is teleported one needs to find another way back.

Perhaps its similar to a teleportation circle network, but the magic is tied up with an object.
