Animal Companion / Mount Attacks

Rules Questions

Hey,
I'm new to Pathfinder, and I'm trying to figure out the animal companion rules. On the druid's turn, can he and his animal companion attack in the same round? A level 1 Druid with two weapon fighting, and a small cat companion could get 5 attacks in one round. Is that correct?

That's right, as long as the companion knows the Attack trick (refer to the Handle Animal skill). If it doesn't know this trick, the druid might have to push it to attack, which is a move action and not an easy check to make at 1st level.

Also normally the animal companion acts in it's own initiative but i have seen a quite a few poeple (my group including) having the animal companion playing in the players turn.

Just wanted to be sure I was doing that right. Thanks guys for all your help.

For mounts this is different.

"Your mount acts on your initiative count as you direct it."

Since you are just getting started, I'll take the time to point out that the attack trick will only let an animal companion "attack only humanoids, monstrous humanoids, giants, or other animals." If you want it to attack other creatures you will need to teach it the attack trick twice.
