Problems printing a download

Website Feedback

I was wondering if anyone else was having touble printing the Jade Regent Players Guide? Every time I try Adobe tells me it couldn't print because there were no pages selected to print. I tried printing all, current page, and specific pages. I have a HP PSC 2170 Series and was able to print the interactive maps from The Brinewall Legacy PDF without a problem. If anyone could help me out I would really appreciate it.

sounds like you may have gotten a bad download. I would suggest re-personalizing/downloading and trying again

Not sure what you mean by re-personalizing, but I have redownloaded the file and I still get the same message. Thank you for the suggestion though.

Sounds like it might need to be flattened. I'm fairly certain the new PDFs contain multiple layers of text and image upon top of each other. You can view them, but since they don't exist on the same plane you can't print them. Flattening them should push them all to one plane.I've also read that the new paizo PDFs contain interactive maps. That would lead me to believe they have multiple layers as well.

Anyway, my suggestion would be to do a save as from within Adobe. Save as another PDF, and try printing that second one. Another option would be to choose the print option from within Adobe itself. Force it go through the internal print algorithm and calculate the layers.

Good luck.

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried saving it as a pdf by going to file> save as while viewing it in the adobe reader and then opened the new file but still got the same message. You also mention flattening. Every time I print a pdf I get a little progress bar that says it is flattening it, even with the players guide. The no pages selected message comes up after that. Also I was able to print the interactive maps with everything toggled on and off without a problem, I even printed the player handout from the AP using the print current view option. If you have any other suggestions please let me know.

I've alerted our digital products person to this thread and hopefully she will be able to help out.

This PDF was not exported with Acrobat layers, so that should not be the problem causing the printer errors. Could you let me know what sort of error (whatever is in the dialog box) it shows when it fails to print? You may also want to make sure your copy of Reader is up to date.

I'm currently at work but from memory I get two messages that pop up one that says that the document couldn't be printed and then another that says that no pages were selected. When I get home tonight I will post the exact messages and update my reader. Thank you for all the help everyone.

Yep—I'd suggest updating your Adobe Reader, and then checking to see if there are updates for your printer drivers.

Ok Adobe said it was up to date but printer drivers weren't, so I updated those. Still getting the same message. The two windows that come up are both called Adobe Reader they have an icon/picture of an "I" in a word bubble and the first says "The document could not print" and the second one says "There were no pages selected to print" and there is an OK button on each. Just as a test I reprinted the interactive maps with no tags and player view on and then with no tags and GM view on, both printed just fine. I even redownloaded the Players Guide and still got the same message. Thank you for all the help so far.

I once had problems printing Eando's journal from APs #1-6.
I got the tipp to use PostScript drivers for my printer (a HP photosmart), and that worked!
You might go and check the internet if there are PS drivers for your model. Might help...

Thanks for the suggestion Dryder. I did find some PostScript drivers but all I could print was gibberish with them. Maybe I messed something up, I'm not a very computer savvy person. Tomorrow I will be going to my brother's and he said I could try printing a page or two out over there to see if that works. I will post an update then.

That is a good tip: if your printer has multiple options for drivers, use PostScript if your printer supports it; PCL6 if it doens't support PostScript, and PCL5 if that's the *only* option your printer supports.

I have the exact same problem as the OP, with the exact same error message. I left the computer running while I was away from home, came back about 8 hours later, and somewhen in-between it printed the first page.

The first page of the Caravan rules ( with the big artwork in the top half of the page ) also had the same error.

Do you have the same printer as the OP (HP PSC 2170 Series)?

If you check your inbox, you should have received an e-mail that we updated this file. This should resolve the printing errors people have been having.

I just downloaded the players guide again. When I tryed to print out the first page I got the SAME error message. That it could not be printed because no pages were selected to print.

Windows 7 home premium 64 bit. Adobe reader 10, all drivers updated. HP Laserjet pro 1520 printer.

EDIT: Did you replace the file yet? I just looked and it said in my download history that the last time the players guide was updated was july 27 or something. You did'nt send out the email saying it was updated and not replace the file yet, did you?

Just for comparison, in case it helps, I had no trouble printing the original file.

Configuration: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, Adobe Reader 9.4.5, HP Color LaserJet 2605dtn (PostScript drivers)

Sorry for the late feedback, I checked the wrong thread (as there are several about the topic). I have the HP Laserjet 1300n and am using the Windows 7 drivers.

I just downloaded the last version of the Players Guide and tried printing out the cover page. It worked, but it took between 20-30 minutes for the printing to be processed. I am using Acrobat Reader X and my computer is an AMD quad core with 8 GB RAM, so I don't think the computer itself should have any problems doing the process.

I just redownloaded this for a 3rd time. For a thrid time I got the same error that it could not be pretted because there were no pages selected to print.
