Power replace idea for non-mounted cavalier

Advice

Shadow Lodge

been batting around the idea of a non-mounted cavalier for one of my players that I've wanted to have play a 1st party class that close to what he's running now (a warlord from tome of secrets). Feel like I've finally found a pretty good balance of what I'm looking for and what the class would need and just wanted to get peoples suggestions. This is based on the cavalier and samurai builds haven't had access to the ultimate combat stuff yet but if anyone has some good suggestions from that piece would greatly appreciate it.

HD,BAB,Saves stay the same

1st: Challenge 1/day, Fast Movement, order, Tactician
2nd: Order ability
3rd: Weapon expertise (same as samurai's ability the gm may decide what weapons fit the bill for the type of warriors/martial college they want to emulate i.e. think of them like slots with 2 handed/1 handed weapon, ranged martial, reach weapon, and light weapon)
4th: Challenge 2/day, Armor training
5th: Banner
6th: Bonus Feat
7th: Challenge 3/day
8th: Order ability
9th: Greater Tactician
10th: Challenge 4/day
11th: Honorable stand (with some other way of paying for the 2nd part of this ability probably with some pool similar to resolve's save like 1/4th the amount of a samurai's of the same level)
12th: Bonus Feat, demanding challenge
13th: Challenge 5/day
14th: Greater banner
15th: Order ability
16th: Challenge 6/day
17th: Master tactician
18th: Bonus feat
19th: Challenge 7/day
20th: Last stand

You might want to wait until if possible... Ultimate Combat has an archetype for a cav w/o a mount, and it is available Thursday.

Agree, I'd wait until UC comes out. There's an archetype called Tactician for the Fighter that is much closer to what the Warlord is like.

But I must ask, what's your problem with the Warlord? It looks fine to me, if a little on the weak side.

From what I have read this is not the case. It does have a couple archetypes that take away Cavalier's charge.

Just checked the spoiler thread that Cheapy gave his info in, the one I was thinking of was Musketeer. Gives up mount for gun. May not be what you want.

yeah firearm isn't really what he's going for anyways and he really doesn't want anything to do with the mounted stuff. As for the reasoning for the change the class being on the weak side is one of the reasons for the want to change it, the others being I would like to take him off a 3rd party class and into something 1st party with more modular abilities to use to buff party members in the form of teamwork feats rather then ones it provides which are a little constricting in the campaign they're in.

As I mentioned, Tactician looks awesome. There's an archetype for Cavaliers that swaps Banner with Mount, so what I'd recommend is have him do Tactician and one level of Standard Bearer / Strategist (both are cavalier archetypes that buff up the strategic side of things). You don't get the mount stuff (although there's a feat that causes cav mounts to be based off of CHARACTER level, not class level. That alone is awesome), but you'll get Banner which is an alright buff, and a good Tactician track.

Plus, you'll get a ton of feats from Fighter, and some other cool stuff.

War Master by Super Genius Games is probably my favorite take on the "battlefield strategist" archetype, but you want to move towards Paizo stuff. Also, the above combination is contending that top spot for me.

Also, I give previews, not spoilers.
