" There are other ways to wear one's faith openly with pride than by using a piece of metal that hangs from a chain Thaddeus." He smiles, but doesn't try hard to hide the fact he's put off by the man's words.

With a look of confusion on his face he replies, "I am aware of that, Jaska, as this is merely the form I, and many of Iomedae's followers, choose." he goes on to explain, "I was merely pointing out that, despite his calling of attention to the few of us that do bear the symbols, any of us that allow the gods to guide us are holy men, ...or women." this last he adds quickly

He adopts an upright posture and continues as if to the congregation.

"My point was to emphasize that it isn't the symbol that we display for others, it is in the nature of the acts we perform in their name and by their grace, that makes us holy." he finishes with, "Only that he recognize that our wearing it does not make us any more holy than he himself by not wearing one."

Remaining calm, he explains "It was merely a good-natured ribbing. He made reference to our over display of faith, and I retorted with one about his under display. I apologize, good sir, if the nature of my joke was offensive to you in any way."

Jaska's face reddens slightly and he shakes his head." Ah no forgive me kind sir, It is I who slighted you. I'm afraid my Varisian blood often runs hot and it betrayed my social graces there." His tone is genuine, and he Scoops two mugs from Bethana's loaded tray as she makes her way past. He sipped off the top of one and extended the other to Thaddeus while arching his right brow up and down.

"No need for apologies, it was a simple misunderstanding on both our parts. I should have spoken more clearly the intent behind my words." Thaddeus looks at the offered drink and shakes his head slowly, "I thank you for the offer, but I only have a glass of wine with my dinner. I find it helps me stay focused if I do not indulge over much in alcohol." so as to not look like a downer he adds, "But I do not begrudge you your choice to drink, it is just not for me."

DM Patcher, my profile is finished, please let me know if there are any problems.

Karoka stands and stretches languidly. His body pops and cracks from the long sitting and the sudden tension being released. Leaning down to grab his mug he looks over at Jaska and Izoef with a broad tusk revealing grin.

Like the day after Swallowtail most of the devotees present tonight see air rather than beautiful butterflies. You have the right of it friend Jaska, faith can be worn in many ways. Tonight? Look among the crowd and notice the whispered words and curious glances. Shalelu is this taproom's object of worship no matter how many more holy men come prancing through that door. Karoka intends this as an obvious jest. Diplomacy:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Worried that perhaps his joke might have fallen flat, Karoka stands back up and moves to the bar. Tapping the mug lightly on the bar he flashes his toothy smile at Bethana and thanks her warmly for the refill. Karoka turns and watches as a gnome with a love of maps bursts in and discusses that love profusely. Karoka holds his tongue but his smile grows only wider. Another one for Shalelu. The elf is fair, there is no doubt but for one so quiet she certainly attracts a great deal of "friends".

Karoka settles back, elbows resting on the bar, noticing an unmanaged and flagging fire in a nearby hearth. Karoka focuses his attention and flicks a finger. A small ray of flame shoots forth and feeds on the untouched and hastily stacked wood. The fire burns a bit brighter. Good, no extra smoke. All Bethana and Ameiko need is for me to clear the Dragon when it is full of drinking mouths and clikinking coins.

A little warmer and highly amused Karoka watches on.

Jaska Recognized Karoka as an adoptee of the Mvashti's. No matter how flatly told, Jaska laughs heartily at the half orc's joke.

Jaska simply waits for the right moment and places the tankard back on to the tray carried by Bethana."I myself am a lover of fine wine, So I admire your choice. And do not Worry Thadeus...was it," his eyes wander off as he thinks." I take no offense, we all follow our own edicts. There is more than one path to the top of the mountain friend." Jaska declares, drinking to that, but making sure to clank his glass against any who would agree with his words of 'wisdom'

Haldaval stares at the Half-orc Karoka with naked disgust for a moment before remembering his personal challenge and shifting his expression to a roughly disguised smile.

Bluff: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16

I'm really going to have to work on this.

"So, tell me," he shifts his attention back to the game, addressing the other players. "Is the rabbit stew card good?"

Does Karoka notice? Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 2

NOT AT ALL! LOL

Jaska turns his perceptive eye on Haldaval

Sense Motive1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

but is fooled by the roughly disguised smile

Ceru begins trying to explain the basics of Three Lantern Jump, which is a game in three stages involving creating a pool of cards in the center of the table, then playing out one's hand but one card, whose value is affected by the cards in the middle of the table -- and at which everyone places a bet upon the table, then a final round where everyone can play one more card to affect their final score, winner takes the pot.

She adds, quite amiably, "We could move to Go Fish or Kings in the Corner if a betting game is seen as unfriendly to newcomers."

She is then distracted by Kili's arrival, looking upon her fellow gnome---she loses track of what Kili says twice in her introduction, but still manages to get the gist. "Maps? Do you have any with you?"

And then in turn swings her head back around to Haldaval. "THAT'S where that went! Best rabbit stew I ever made. Before braising the rabbit, a dry rub of flour, salt, tarragon, and a dash of the alchemic reagent powdered Joviac... just the thing!"

Sorry if I miss someone or something--with this many people it's hard to keep track of what's going on!

Kili's head spins this way and that, the motion making those with weaker stomachs a bit green in the gills. She takes in all of the talk about Shalelu with wonder.

"Oooh, ooh, so many of you know her. This is just so exciting. She really is quite something. There I was, deep in the Sanos. I have no idea where my friends got off to. And the goblin...now, I have to tell you, mostly ick. But, his did have the most fascinating green skin. Did you ever wish you had green skin. I might like it, but it would have to be brighter than the goblin. I mean, his was kind of cool, but...anyway. The nasty thing has big knife...and I'm talking a big knife. I mean, the thing's a goblin...no business with a big knife.

Her head whirls again at the mention of a game of cards.

"Cards, did you say cards. Oh, I just love games. Have you ever played Prismati? It is so much fun picking sides isn't it? I love Prismati. Doesn't that anticipation of whether you're going to get picked or not just kill you? Oh, I simply have to play cards. What did you say your name was? I'm Kili by the way. Oh, and I do have a map."

She rummages around in a small satchel that she was carrying over her shoulder and pulls out a crumpled sheet of ivory parchment with a splash of blue, blobs of green and a big red line visible.

"Look, its my map from Magnimar to Sandpoint. Don't you love it. I especially like this." She cries pointing to the endless sea of blue to the west of Sandpoint. "What do you think is over here? And don't you wonder what's off the top? The world is just enormous isn't it? Even though we are so small."

Jasper turns back to Thaddeus

"Her skills are quite varied. She has taught me hunting, trapping, fishing. How to stalk prey through the wilderness and how to prepare a camp. Of course as you know she also trains the militia, of which we are members."

Looking down at this simple cloths compared to the finery of most patrons in the Rusty Dragon

"Of course my warrior training took a slightly different course than most here. Shalelu wasn't very complementary of my Snapping Turtle Stance the first time she saw it. In fact I'm not sure I could repeat what she said in polite company."

Sense Motive +2
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

"I'm sure if you didn't spend so much time on your horse Shalelu would be willing to instruct you as well."

Something in this tea has loosened my lips. Or perhaps it's the storm and my recent lack of company. Yes, that's it.

Iozif Henricson wrote:
"As to Shalelu she is not here and I've not seen her. She may not be in town, coming and going like the wind."

Parsifal, having had his attention caught by mention of Shalelu nods from the bar and adds, "Indeed, and from what I can tell, the Sheriff isn't expecting her at the moment... although, to be fair, even his expectation is often a poor predictor."

Parsifal laughs at the jest, then sobers slightly and adds, "I think it more admiration than worship in that case. I do admire and greatly respect one of the town's true heroes, to be certain... but it is the Judge of the Gods that I revere and who's call I heeded to come back to town in the first place."

Shalelu's presence has merely been a side benefit, and one that made coming to what used to be home much more pleasant, even with the troubles at the time...

Parsifal tries to follow the little gnome's speech for a moment until he realizes there was an introduction hidden within. "Greetings, Kili. I am Parsifal... and I am an avid player of cards - as you might expect of one who lives in a barracks."

Someone Mezmorized by the Singing, and overwhelmed by the amount of different converstations going on around him, Tiberiu sits quietly trying to take it all in...Untill he Hears Parsifal mention Barricks..He pipes up, fully awake and eager to hear some stories.

"You lived in barricks? Where you in the Military, or Militia? have you seen action? What was it like!?..."

Haldaval looks at the human with puzzlement. My horse? Is this man trying to provoke me?

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

Hmm... he seems just as nervous as I feel. Perhaps it is nothing. Clearly getting angry will not help.

"Friend... my horse is named Shadow, and my name is Haldaval. I assure you, I have been learning from Shalelu since before you were born, but it does not matter. She is just as mysterious to me as to anyone else."

"Indeed, Kili! I had a great yearning to see the world, once, and though I've only seen a bit of it, I hope to head out again, once I've bit more money to my name and experience under my belt," Her own speech speeds up to match Kili--so nice to talk, and not have to slow down to wait for the big folk to catch up with what you've said. "OH! What a lovely map, indeed---oh, sea travel, how interesting that would be! Is that a cobalt dye in the paint for the sea?

"Anyway, we are indeed playing cards, and this is Emilah and Harun and Tiberiu and... a friend of Shalelu's, what did you say your name was, sir?" She finishes, addressing Haldaval.

Ceru starts gathering the cards, shuffling them deftly in a variety of bridges and cascades of cards falling from one hand to the other. She pauses to make sure no more recipes are stuck in the deck.

Haldaval:
Actually I'm at the bar talking to Thaddeus and his time in the militia riding. You've stated that Haldaval doesn't know many people here so Jasper wouldn't say anything about your horse, as he knows nothing about it.

Jasper Lind wrote:

ah, I thought you were playing cards still, nm then. Although saying Haldaval doesn't know anyone doesn't mean you wouldn't recognize him. He's an almost 7' tall elf that's been living here for a year. :)

Hmm, he wasn't even talking to me, I clearly need more practice conversing in such crowded rooms.

Yeah a 7' tall elf would stand out. It's more that Jasper wouldn't really know Haldaval well enough to joke with him, whereas Thaddeus is in the town militia. I would imagine with their backgrounds Jasper teases Thaddeus about being rich enough to ride while everyone else has to walk.

If anything Jasper's relationship to Haldaval would be that of a new student learning about an older student and trying to learn more about Shalelu from someone who has know her for so long.

Honestly if I'd know Shalelu was going to be this popular I'd have picked a different Hero to worship. :D

I would say Haldaval finds the whole situation very confusing. So many talking about Shalelu it's hard to keep track. He's also very protective of Shadow, so it's entirely possible he overheard your comment and DID mistake it as addressed to him. Although with that roll he could figure it out :)

Iozif is surprised by the misunderstanding between Thaddeus and Jaska. Gentlemen please, I meant for no argument. Bethana, anything these men wish on my tab. Their argument ending Iozif says "Oh I make no claim to holyness no god works his miracles through me."

"Yes indeed it is a pleasure to meet me! Ha! ", Iozif laughs and waves at Jaska. "Fair met, new friend
and may the winds and stars guide you well."

Iozif listens to the songs quietly raises a toast when they are done.

Just noticed that I forgot to put a rank in perception oversight fixed. Climb reduced. Because of this error I'll assume perception check fails.

Did I see Haldaval ...? No I must have been mistaken.

"Wishes or not Nature has seen fit to clad me in green I am fine enough with it but some find it unbecoming. OcH! Too serious now. Another round of songs!"
Iozif throws off an oncoming serious mood and gets back to the festivities.

"Yes Shalelu helps many in need but lets few if any close."

Iozif watches Karoka refresh the fire and nods appreciatively.

Tiberiu Rook wrote:

Parsifal nods, "Aye, I lived in a barracks within a cloister during my training in Magnamar, spending some time serving as a man of the watch... However, I answered both the call of the Lord of the Fist Vault and our good Sheriff, here, when he came to Magnamar a few years ago looking for men to join the militia to help with the goblin troubles. Unfortunately, to be honest, I took ill when we arrived and missed most of that action... and have been largely patrolling the streets or manning the wall here since then... but the barracks here are my home, now."

Parsifal smiles at the invitation and takes the offered chair, "Thank you kindly. I did not wish to intrude."

DM Patcher:
Given the number of Shalelu enamored PCs, I'm more than willing to switch to another if it evens things out. I like the rescued trait for Roleplaying, but maybe we could work something for another NPC. Might be interesting to have the haughty elf deal with being rescued by a human.

Takeda’s Story:

Takeda Tojimaru is the son of the Tojimaru Samurai family. They were a proud people of Tian-Shu and every warrior in the family served their lord diligently. They make frequent visits Varisia and to do business with the noble families of the state, mostly in the form of trade.
When Takeda was old enough to start his training, his father brought him with. This is when he met Ameiko. At the time Ameiko’s parent’s were still alive and her father and Takeda’s father were very good friends. The Rusty Dragon was a place that Takeda and his father visited every time they were in town. At their first meeting, Takeda’s father and Ameiko’s father had purposed a union between the two. This did not sit well with either Ameiko or Takeda. The two rejected the idea immediately. Though the two fathers were very persistent and had made a point to do whatever it took to bring the two children closer.
Several attempts to get the kids too at least play with each other finally bore fruit. Takeda and Ameiko found that they both loved to explore and adventure. They became friends rather than sweethearts and the two of them would get into all sorts of trouble.
As time went on and Takeda and Ameiko’s friendship grew, Takeda had begun to grow fond of her. As soon as he was of the age were he started to notice girls, he realized he had fallen for her. Though the feeling my not have been mutual. Takeda accepted this for now believing in the promise that their parents had made. For now, Takeda would solemnly swear to protect Ameiko. She simply laughed it off at the time but she soon began to notice the difference in how Takeda treated her. He trained hard in his samurai studies so that he could protect her. Every day he grew stronger. Also their adventures grew more dangerous as they got older. At one point, Takeda was ready to lay down his life to protect Ameiko from a gang of thugs. Fortunately his father showed up in time to save them. Takeda promised Ameiko he would get stronger so he could protect her.
Then it happened. Ameiko and Takeda’s families had a falling out. The Kaijitsu had offended the Tijimarus and a bitter feud broke out. Takeda and his father stopped going to the Rusty Dragon and even talking with the family. Though Ameiko and Takeda were still good friends and Takeda had hoped the marriage would hold through, it didn’t. The two families called off the arrangement and Takeda was set to marry a beautiful nobleman’s daughter. Takeda wanted none of it. He still love Ameiko.
Shortly after the arrangement was broken, Ameiko’s entire family had passed leaving her in charge of the tavern. When Takeda heard the news he pleaded with his father to allow the marriage to go through. His father wouldn’t have it. He was still bitter about the incident and seemed glad that the Kaijitsu had died. Takeda could not believe that his father would simply discard a life long friend over a simple offense, but his father was a proud and stubborn man who would cut down anyone who looked at him cross.
The new arrangement had made Takeda very angry. He couldn’t stand the thought of marrying another when he was in love with Ameiko. The thought of her running the Dragon all by herself and the even more unbearable thought that she might wed someone else were to much for him to handle. One day, Takeda approached his father and announced his intentions to marry Ameiko. His father flew into a rage and before long, Takeda found himself banished, disowned, and completely alone.
This was a good thing. For Takeda set out at once for sandpoint. He had meant to purpose to Ameiko right away but it had been 7 years since their last meeting. For now he was content to simply try and rebuild their friendship. He was overjoyed when she expressed no hard feelings about the relationship between their families and was even more elated when she confirmed she was still single. The two quickly rekindled their friendship and Takeda had restated his promise to protect her. He took a job with the town guard and as a bouncer for the Dragon. This allowed him to fulfill his promise and support the place. He would keep an eye on Ameiko, waiting for the opportunity to confess his affections for her. In the meantime, it was enough to simply be close to her.

Answers to Questions:

1. My character knows Ameiko Kaijitsu and is completely in love with the girl. He will do what ever he can to protect her.
2. The Caravan is an opportunity for him to earn fame and fortune to impress his love. In addition, if she will be joining, it is an obligation for him to be there to protect her. He does take his work seriously and will look out for the interests of the caravan.
3. As a Samurai, he is a heavy hitter and really good at moving around. He will usually rush to the aid of anyone who is in jeopardy and do his best to protect them. Especially if it’s Ameiko.
4. This is a funny question because I am going for a completely unusual concept. I plan to make him into a power warrior who has attacks flying out the woodwork. He will be a two weapon weilder with ten levels in Samurai, Five levels of two weapon fighter. Three levels of Ninja and possibly a two levels of Barbarian, not in that particular order. I may switch out Barbarian for more fighter. He will be a demon warrior on the battlefield for sure.
5. Takeda is a little single minded at times but he usually means well. He hopes to one day win the love of Ameiko and will try to talk to her any and every chance he gets. He will also strive to get to know his comrades as they will be critical for the success of the caravan. He is a nice guy but very stern and watchful.
6. I like the caravan rules. They add flavor, I think it will be interesting to incorporate. If the general consensus is no, I will be fine. But I do like it
7. In my 12 years of DMing, I have found romances to be one of the more flavorful parts of a game. But that truly depends on the players and the DM, and their collective ability to roleplay the concept to where it can be fun. In my opinion. Romances are best when characters involved are really well played out.

For DM:

Hopefully I'm not late to the party. There is a lot of stuff to go over in the Ultimate Combat. But if you have any questions or concerns please let me know. I will start posting the Roleplay later this evening. Oh by the way, I have no idea what is going on in the Dragon right now. So I'm just going to have Takeda enter and start interacting with Ameiko. If there is anyone else interacting with her, let me know.

Ameiko isn't in the Rusty Dragon as per the roleplaying introduction. .

For those of you considering changing your traits, there is nothing stopping you to do so. I admit that I do wish there was more love for Sandru, but ultimately it won't affect much. The more diversity in traits, however, the better - though at the same time, having a small fanclub could also work.

If it's alright I'm going to switch Jasper from Hero Worship of Shalelu to Younger Sibling of Sandru. I think it works better with his current choice as a monk. Since it's too late to change the forum name I'll just say he changed his name upon entering the temple of Irori.

Lind could also be the middle name.

Middle name it is. I'll update the character sheet. Double checking the whole sheet I found a static bonus to strength that shouldn't have been there, I recalculated all strength related items and updated the sheet for that as well.

Into the Rusty Dragon comes a young stocky man of Tian ethincity. He peers around the room with piercing almond shaped brown eyes. His skin is the typical Tian tan. His lengthy black hair is tied back into a ponytail he sports a neatly trimmed goatee. His armour and weapons are unique of that of eastern cultures. Many of you may have seen this fellow as part of the town watch over the past year. He looks to the bartender and makes his way over. "Is Ameiko out for today?" When the bartender on duty confirms this, the man looks around at the patrons that have gathered in the bar. "Very well, I will wait for her return. In the meantime, I will have a drink please." For the moment, he will merely listen to the preceding in the bar. Making sure there is no trouble.

Jasper Lind wrote:

Thaddeus misses the jab completely, instead over analyzing what he said. "So.. you think she has an issue with riding... well others riding... or teaching while they ride?"

At Iozef's comment, of Shalelu not letting many close, he seems relieved. As if the idea that there might not be another gives him the opportunity he's looking for, but then he realizes that if she doesn't let anyone close, that includes him.

I was going to start with the crush on Ameiko, but after reading their quick bios, I can't see him falling for anyone other than Shalelu.

"Not at all Thaddeus. I think the ancient wisdom holds much for us in this matter. As they say, 'Stick to what you know'. Although their words are strange, I think in this case it means that since Shalelu teaches us to fight on foot, she's more comfortable there than on horseback. Of course a great adventurer such as Shalelu is probably adept on horseback as well."

Poor man, this storm has him out of sorts

I could also switch to something for Sandru, it just seemed like Ameiko's personality suited my character for friendship better, but she'd also get along with him well. If it's all the same, I'll keep going with Ameiko for the purpose of the tavern RP, but if Ceru gets accepted I'll review before the game begins--or change upon GM request.

Ceru deals out the cards again to all involved in the game, explaining the basics as she goes---her explanation isn't the clearest to follow, but fortunately it is a simple game and doesn't involve betting.

"It seems many of us are not originally natives to Sandpoint. What is it about this lovely city, that draws us to wander in?" She chuckles. "Aside from Shalelu, based on the talk going through the room."

Shulao has a crush on Sandru. I haven't played a gay character since the mid 90's and I thought it might be fun.

Parsifal answers, quite earnestly, "I may not count, in that this was, for me, a homecoming... However, it was Abadar who led me back home more than homesickness..."

Patcher; Other than gear, the sheet is *now* up to date, including the non-point-form backstory...

Ceru wrote:

Karoka stirs from his staring match with the hearth flame. Amidst the noise and chatter Ceru's question breaks through the din.

Home. Security. Family. Second Chances. Karoka shakes his head in surprise at the urgency in his voice and the intensity in his tone. Breaking his gaze from the flame he shakes his head slightly. Thumbing the thick chain flail hanging at his belt Karoka makes an honest yet obviously strained effort to retake his more upbeat mood. Elf maids and adventure, curious Ceru. And a chance for new acquaintances! Karoka raises his mug to no one in particular but let's the sentiment grow within him. why not? It does seem we are on the edge of something doesn't it?

Karoka turns back to the bar and gets yet another refill but this time of something with less kick. He desires to savor the good feeling of the night and not pass into sickness. He takes a seat and watches those around him with renewed interest.

After hearing the folks talk about Sandpoint being home, Takeda pipes in. "You folks have a nice place here in Sandpoint, I may not be a native, but I have come to call this place home over the past year. I have worked hard everyday keeping it safe for you all." He looks at the group pondering for a moment. "I am curious to know. Has Sandpoint been that decent of a place all this time?"

Parsifal gets a strange look on his face, Been here a year and has not heard of any of our past troubles? That is... unusual...

He then adjusts his hand for a moment while thinking how to answer the question without reopening old wounds, finally saying, "In truth, it depends on how you define 'decent'. Like many towns, there have a few dark periods in our history... Probably more than our share, to be truthful. Still, I think at its core, Sandpoint has always been a decent place, even through all of the trials..."

"I see. I am not a particularly gifted speaker and even less in the field of study and research. I am slowly, but surely learning the history of my new home. I have only visited this place with my family for only days at a time and was never once made clear on anything of importance about the town. I have no shame in admitting that I am a complete stranger to these lands, even still. I do plan on understanding everything there is to know. I do enjoy hearing others perspectives to be sure."

Iozif responds to Ceru and Parsifal. "I was born on the road, home is everywhere and nowhere." He suddenly looks thoughtful, "You know I think I might have been born on the road to Sandpoint, the registration of my birth my be here, if this town has such things"Barking a laugh " This may be my 'hometown' after all."

Iozif replies to Takeda " There was big goblin problem some years ago but I wasn't in town when it happened, can't joke about that though, too many people died then."

Nodding to Karoda's statement "Very friendly town more than most, big cities large and uncaring small towns
provincal and clannish. Town might not have liked them but even the goblins would have been tolerated IF they behaved themselves."

As the staff of the inn falls behind due to crowds Iozif looks around with air of discomfort. He sweeps some abandoned mugs to the bar. "Off to the washtub with these", Iozif announces to the air.

[occ] Gone most of day twelve posts only half role-play. Unexpected half-hour phone call bunch more post all role-play. Timing is interesting. Just assume statements occur in a logical order with so many posters. [/ooc]

"I too was born on the road into Sandpoint, Small world Iozif. I suppose our parents were like minded in seeking out this place." He nods to the half orc as he stands and walks away. His eyes wander off to the small tattoo of a butterfly on his wrist. " Additionally, an old friend asked me to look after some things here, and here I am."

Saying it out loud made him realize how vague his motivations seemed at this point. Still ever since his conversation with Niska he could feel his destiny fast approaching. Desna wouldn't fail him, his faith was unfettered. " Drinks are good, and the fireplace is much more warming than the sheets of rain outside, Not to mention company is lively and plentiful. I don't think any might deny that the Gods Smile on The Rusty Dragon tonight!" He finishes strongly, and lifts his cup into the air, pausing for a moment as he mentions the gods to glance at Thaddeus and Parsifal And any other "holy men" present, like someone else said it's hard to recount everyone's names but consider your character involved if you think they seem to fit. " What better place than here, or night than tonight friends?" Jaska concludes, and finishes his second mug.

I'm uncertain of the timeline from RotRL to now, which is what the Goblin talk is about right?

Thaddeus looks off into the distance at the mention of the goblin attacks. "Our town is a good place, there may have been some bad acts that were perpetrated here, but our town is a fine one." he states a little defensively, though not directed at anyone in particular.

He continues, "I was younger when the attacks happened, I would have liked to help those that stopped them, but I was needed much more at the temple with the wounded, by my father's side."

Coming out of his daydream, by Jaska's toast, Thaddeus' demeanor eases "Indeed, Jaska, the Gods smile not only on The Rusty Dragon, they smile on all of Sandpint." He will lift his glass of wine on this toast.

Without knowing too much of RotRL's plot (even though I am a player), Jade Regent occurs afterwards in regards of "canon timeline" (from what I have gathered). Sandpoint has been troubled with goblins for years, though - not just during the plot of RotRL - or that's my impression from what I've read.

"As you all know my brother and I were born here. Sandpoint is my home. And a good home it is, to have so many fine people in it."

Parsifal nods, "Indeed. That was but one of the troubles that Sandpoint has suffered over time, but that was the one that brought me back. Sheriff Hemlock came to Magnamar, where I was finishing my training, looking for men to join the newly improved Sandpoint Militia. Sadly, I took ill on the journey -- and I was not the only one, the town was struck by some sort of plague around that time as well.. though I was ill before I got here. In any case, just as I was recovering from my illness, Shelelu led a group to Thistletop and ended that particular threat. She's quite the hero."

Parsifal notes that his tankard is empty and gestures for another, "And a bowl of stew, if you please. It smells wondrous, and I'll need something warm in my stomach before I face that storm."

He turns to look at his cards once more... I don't think I've been blessed with much luck this evening...

I am referencing Runelords stuff here, but only a basic level of the first part of the adventure.. Don't want to spoil for anyone.

Did not mean to spoil anything, either thought the goblin attack was well known though and yes I used the default assumption the AP occur on Golorion in roughly the publishing order. Everthing everyone else said is the same as I understand it. I'll make sure anything spoiliery is kept very vague.

"Alway good to meet another road born Jaska but my parents did not exactly choose their roads. 'It's not an Adventure, it's a job.' Why do I feel like I am quoting? My father worked the caravans, often Master Sandru's."

Iozif looks around speculatively Does seem to be unusual number of Hmm...capable types around now. Feeling more and more that this is a portentious night. I hope this doens't mean Sandpoint needs Heros soon, it has suffered enough. Spirits ward us all from harm." Iozif tosses some salt over his left shoulder.

"Getting too serious now... Great and talented Bards!" Iozif shouts in his booming voice,"Sing songs of Hope and Triumph, or I'll start singing and a great disaster it would be to drive these fine people to flee into a dark and stormy night."

So much good cheer. Alas my friends I intend to brave the storm for the room has gotten crowded and I find myself in a morose place. Karoka stands and moves to the door, he turns one last time and offers a wave to the patrons. Another night.

Karoka opens the door to swirling winds and rain and makes his way into the darkness.

Thank you everyone this has been great. I got accepted into a novice pbp Jade Regent game and so I am withdrawing my application here so more people can get into more games without hassle or confusion. I really think the characters in this group are great and I look forward to reading about your exploits!

"Let us avoid having Iozif sing if at all possible. My brother has spoken many kind words to me of your abilities Iozif, but he tells me your courage and skill with a blade is matched only by your ability to make grown men cry when you raise your voice in song."

According to Sandru he is one of the finest guards, and worst singers, ever to live in this region

If it will keep you from singing, sir, I'll oblige that request!

Anen slips a wink at Iozif to show him that the barb was a playful one.

Perform: Sing: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21

Anen's Song:
The tune coming from Anen is not the one you're familiar with, but the lyrics will likely be well-known!
I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It’s gonna be a bright, bright
Sun-Shiny day.

I think I can make it now, the pain is gone
All of the bad feelings have disappeared
Here is the rainbow I’ve been praying for
It’s gonna be a bright, bright
Sun-shiny day.

Look all around, there’s nothing but blue skies
Look straight ahead, nothing but blue skies

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It’s gonna be a bright, bright
Sun-shiny day.

Unfortunately, the lass exclaims as she jumps down off the stage, that song is currently a lie, as you can plainly tell from sticking your hand out the window. Nevertheless, I am now on break! In a few moments I will return to lie to you more, if you wish it, all the while with a smile!

Anen jaunts merrily over to the table where the game of cards is being played.

Hi, Ceru! I didn't see you at first. How have you been? Winning as usual, I see. You are letting the gentlemen cut the deck, right?

"Anen! What a wonderful song that was, and the sun shines within the Dragon, most certainly--as especially as you have saved us also from Iozif's performance." Ceru grins. "Of course--well, we take turns to cut the deck, yes, all around and fair's fair. I'll never cheat a body except one that's a cheater, as you'll remember from that one time with Seamus Blaggand." She chuckles at her memory of the event and tosses a card into the center of the table. "Match!" she declares, and sees if anyone has a counter play.
