Time for the new AP! This will be the last campaign I start in a long while, so those of you concerned, have no fear!
Recruitment will end Friday the 5th of August
What you should know before applying
First, I am reserving two slots for two players. As such, I am only looking for 3 or 4 players (for an ideal group of 5). One of them will be playing a Gnome Oracle; the other one will be playing a Bard.
Second, download the Jade Regent Player's Guide if you haven't already - the information is necessary to understand the adventure and create an appropriate backstory for your character. I ask that you also pay close attention to the Building Relationships, Romances and Caravans section.
I am primarily looking for roleplaying, not rollplaying. I wish to explore a story, not mechanics. However, this is an adventure path, and as such, it assumes that your characters are somewhat competent.
As with my previous topics, I also request that you have the time and dedication to post daily - even during weekends - preferably more. If real-life requires your attention, I ask that you inform me and the other players - the ability to communicate is key.
If possible, also tell me which time zone you are in, so I can adjust to posting habits as swiftly as possible.
Also, diversity is heavily encouraged, both in regards of class and race. Ultimately, though, you will be judged on character concept, roleplaying interaction and character chemistry.
As a warning: failure to roleplay here will automatically exclude you from the selection process.
A word about Romances: I hope to include them. I understand that it is a subject many are uncomfortable with; it won't be enforced. If it does occur, it will not be explicit, not from my side.
Character creation
• Races: I will only allow the standard races from the Core Rulebook. Alternate racial traits from the Advanced Player's Guide (APG) will also be allowed.
• Classes: All Base classes from the Core Rulebook, APG, Ultimate Magic (UM) and Ultimate Combat (UC) will be allowed. Most prestige classes from the Core Rulebook, APG and Inner Sea World Guide (ISWG) will be allowed.
• Archetypes: All archetypes from the Core Rulebook, APG, UM and UC will be allowed. Other archetypes will require approval (e.g. Hound Master for Cavaliers).
• Favoured Class: The alternate favoured class bonuses from APG will be allowed. If Paizo releases options for the Gunslinger, Magus, Ninja and/or Samurai, I will allow you to retcon your favoured class bonuses if desired.
• Alignment: I will only allow Good and Neutral alignments.
• Ability Scores: 20-point buy; no stat above 18 (prior to racial modifiers), no stat below 8 (after racial modifiers).
• Feats: All feats from the Core Rulebook, APG, UM, UC and ISWG will be allowed. Other feats must be approved.
• Traits: Characters will start with three traits. One of these traits MUST be a Jade Regent Campaign Trait.
• Hit Points: Characters will start out with Maximum hit points for their class at 1st level.
• Starting Gold: Characters will start with maximum gold for their class.
• Words of Power: Will be permitted.
• Houseruling: I am not a fan of the errata to Heirloom Weapon. As such, I will run it as it was post-nerf. (Warning: Heirloom Falcata, not recommended.)
• Note: As the DM, I have the last word. If I spot any blatant game-breaking cheese, I will ask you to change it. When errata is released for UM and UC, I will look at it and possibly enforce it as well.
How to apply
I require much from applicants. While I do not require a full character sheet, I do request that you give me your race, class, alignment, ability scores, saves, skills and traits. As such, a full sheet is recommended. If selected, a full sheet is required.
In addition: Please reply to the following questions. Afterwards, interact with one another as patrons at the Rusty Dragon for an evening, Ameiko having left to run some personal errands, leaving Bethana in charge.
1. Which NPC does your character know? What is your character's attachment to said character?
2. What motivation would your character have to join the caravan?
3. What will your character contribute to the group?
4. What are your plans for your character mechanically?
5. What are your plans for your character from a story-perspective?
6. What do you think of the Caravan mechanic presented in the Jade Regent Player's Guide? Does it seem unnecessary, or do you think it will add to the campaign?
7. What is your opinion on the concept of romances in a roleplaying game? Would you pursue one, or prefer that they remain an untouched subject?
Roleplaying Introduction
Bethana is quick to take your orders, with a smile on her face and a song in her throat. The Rusty Dragon is quiet tonight, compared to other eves, and the lack of Ameiko's presence is noteworthy. Yet the little halfling rushing back and forth from the kitchen is a sight on its own, and she provides ample service and conversation where need be. The rattle of rain starts and a cold breeze is washing in from an open window. "Sounds like a storm's brewing," Bethana calls out from the kitchen. The heavy cascade of thunder follows shortly. "That's a storm, all right... Might be best to stay here in the warmth until it's over. Wouldn't do you any good to get sick in the cold rain, right?"

Dotting here, also. I've honestly never played in a PbP before but have been interested in doing it for some time. If you aren't averse to having a newbie to the genre in the group, I'd definitely be interested in playing. If it helps to know it, I've been involved in tabletops for about ten years..just not through a PbP.

DM Patcher |

Dotting for interest as well. If I am selected in your CotCT game, I won't be applying, but if I am not, I'll definitely want to give this one a shot.
How do you manage so many games?!
A combination of too much spare time and sheer force of will.

I do gauge new players with a cautious eye - commitment is key. It's very frustrating to have a potential new player show up and do a good job - only to vanish without a word. Having had that happen to me before, it does affect my selection process. It doesn't mean you don't have a shot, though - but make sure that you can dedicate yourself to post once a day.

Jasper Lind |

1. Which NPC does your character know? What is your character's attachment to said character?
Jasper worships Shalelu and would do anything to impress her.
2. What motivation would your character have to join the caravan?
If Shalelu left then Jasper would follow. If he was ordered to go he would do so as well.
3. What will your character contribute to the group?
Damage in the form of a mobile monk, and wilderness survival skills. Since his mother was Tian he may have some insights into that culture as well.
4. What are your plans for your character mechanically?
Monk (Master of Many Forms), acquire the combat styles from UC and have fun with them.
5. What are your plans for your character from a story-perspective?
Grow as a powerful warrior and defender of the innocent. As a member of the Sandpoint Militia Jasper is dedicated to defending his community, but knows that his hero Shalelu grew in power by adventuring, so he would like to emulate her.
6. What do you think of the Caravan mechanic presented in the Jade Regent Player's Guide? Does it seem unnecessary, or do you think it will add to the campaign?
Looks awesome, although I don't know how it will play out in the AP it seems to present a concise set of rules for running caravans in Pathfinder.
7. What is your opinion on the concept of romances in a roleplaying game? Would you pursue one, or prefer that they remain an untouched subject?
As a player I am all for them, but the character of Jasper probably wouldn't respond as much to them. If approached and courted he would respond as much as his order allowed, and any advances he makes will be unconscious and accidental.
Personality
As a member of the Sandpoint Militia, Jasper was trained by Shalelu Andosana, and grew up worshiping her. Rather than being trained as a traditional fighter or ranger, Jasper took to he teachings of Irori and the monastic traditions of that faith.
As a practitioner of the Snapping Turtle and Panther Styles, Jasper is both difficult to hit and knock over. He is fearsome on offense and difficult to strike on defense.
Tall, strong, wise, loyal. All of these and more describe Jasper. He is totally devoted to Shalelu and would follow her anywhere. Although quite shy Jasper has a sly sense of humor and is not above the occasional sarcastic comment disguised as "ancient wisdom".
History
Jasper's mother was Tian, following Ameiko's family to Sandpoint and serving them faithfully for years. His father was the local blacksmith and it was working in his shop from a young age that honed Jasper's body. His mother taught him to be quick and wise and together these traits have made Jasper a fine monk.
Although a dedicated member of the church, Jasper was a bit of a wild child, often running off into the surrounding hills. It was always Shalelu that found him, and growing up he found himself desiring to emulate her heroic qualities through his own path.
Party Role
Jasper is a warrior, his focus is around damaging his opponents and allowing others the opportunity to finish them off. He is not a fighter and lacks the armor and stamina to stand toe to toe with the enemy, but if he can strike unopposed he will be deadly.
From a non-combat perspective Jasper is skilled at hunting and foraging. He will serve a vital role in any cross country journey by providing sustenance for the group and helping to find a trail through the wilderness.
Jasper is created with only 2 traits and 20 point buy, so I'll need to modify some things, but the basics for a Human (Varisian) Monk (Master of Many Forms) are there and will be updated this afternoon.
I will stay in here until the storm blows over. Even though Shalelu has had me train in the storms many times she will not think highly of me if I show up for militia duty sick. I could not live with her shame.

DM Patcher |

I removed the previous post; I was really considering 25-point buy, but couldn't make up my mind. Standard 20-point buy applies.
Minor edit to the character creation rules;
• Houseruling: I am not a fan of the errata to Heirloom Weapon. As such, I will run it as it was pre-nerf. (Warning: Heirloom Falcata, not recommended.)

DeathQuaker RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8 |

I am very interested in this and downloading the player's guide as I write this, so I can come up with a character concept (thinking fighter or rogue).
But a question: I am NOT deeply familiar with Golarion and own no setting materials (I do scan the Golarion wiki for the basics). I would of course research my character's background to the best of my ability. Would this be a problem and should I therefore not bother applying, or can this be worked with? I'd really like to experience Golarion through an adventure path and this looks like a good opportunity.

DM Patcher |

Even less for me to rework then. :D Are you still keeping it at 3 traits?
"Strange that there are so few patrons on a night such as this. Of course it is still early."
Yes, 3 traits still apply.

I have a rather big collection of Golarion's setting, and am willing to help with immersion and information. It isn't a deal-breaker for me - the fact that you are eager to experience Golarion and want to know more is a good thing, I reckon.

Dreaming Warforged |

Hello Patcher,
Reading the Guide brings all sorts of good ideas to my mind! This is one I can't really let pass it seems. As you know, I'm leaving tomorrow for a week and have no idea whether I'll have a connection.
In any case, I'll try to come up with something soon, or I'll pass. I am thinking of an elven diviner that made a lot of wrong choices in his youth, moved to Sandpoint to 'disappear', then only too happy to move again as he feels someone might be on his trail...
Having said that, so many fun ideas come to mind that I might just come up with something else!

Rhome Stalt |

3. What will your character contribute to the group?
Ranged Support, Light Tracking skills, Bluff, Local Knowledge.

Mort than Likely Straight Gunslinger, Maybe ranger, Depending on What we have in the party.
5. What are your plans for your character from a story-perspective? To have him mature from a Fool-hardly Teen to an Adult, Develop his relationships with Koya and Sandru.
6. What do you think of the Caravan mechanic presented in the Jade Regent Player's Guide? Does it seem unnecessary, or do you think it will add to the campaign?
Just like Kingmaker, It adds something intresting to the adventure, However it could be just another thing to number crunch and power game with. If done From the Characters Perspective, i think it will be a good addition.
7. What is your opinion on the concept of romances in a roleplaying game? Would you pursue one, or prefer that they remain an untouched subject?
If everyone is mature enough to handle it, Great. Some people are Gunshy about their male Character being romantic with e female Character, who is being Played by a man. I got to play in a Rise of the Runelords game where my Character was a long lost Romantic intrest with Ameiko, and it was very Entertaining (It was dropped that my Character had a son, which really stunned me as a player, but it turned out to eb a joke by the GM, which was cool)
Tiberiu Rook Grew up with Sandru in Sandpoint as an adoped Child under Koya's wing. Being a Few years Younger than Sandru, Tiberiu was still wet behind the ears when Sandru took the Caravan job. Without Sandru around to keep in occupited, Tiberiu starting feeling restless, Bored with his Current Life.
Doing Odd jobs around town, he started putting Coin back for Basic Equipment. It only took him a Few weeks to Purchase his First Blade (a Cutlass) from the Local Blacksmith. But much to his Supprise, he was not Very good with it. Being Tall and someone lanky, he lacked the Muscle to really stike true with the Blade.
As luck would have it, during the Swallowtail Festival, found his Calling. While Helping a Local shopkeep setup he stall, Tiberiu heard a Noise he (and everyone around him, judging by the way they screamed) had heard. It was a loud Crack, like thunder, however it was a clear day, no storm clouds where in the sky. As the Crowd Cleared, He saw a Woman, standing over a Local Sczarni Thug. The woman was Dressed is a Brown coat, a Lightbrown shirt and a strange looking hat. Even Stranger that the hat, was the Device she was holding in her hand. She Placed the Device back into a Pouch on her Side, then bent over and retreived her Coin pouch from the man. he was Clutching his Leg, Screaming at her in Varisian.
Very curous about what the Woman had done, Tiberiu Followed her back to where she was staying. At first she wanted to have nothing to do with him. Bt Tiberiu was persistent with his Questions, and Gifts to try and get her Attention. Finalluy she caved and explained who she was and what she carries.
"My name is Lirianne, I hail from a Land Far, far away from here. Where i come from, Magic is Wild, unreliable. So we have learn to Create and Defend ourselfs with these."
She lays a Double Barrel Pistol on the Table., Tiberiu's Eye go Wide with Delight. He had never seen anything so Beautiful, So powerful. He Begged her to teach him her Ways. She agreed, but only under the terms that Tiberiu would pay for her Stay in the Area before she Moved on.
As the Months Went By she, Trained the Young Man on how to Care for the Firearm, shoot it, Repair it, Create the Powder that fuels it. It was the Greatest Time in Tiberiu's Life.
Then one Early Morning, Tiberiu, Eager for his Lesson, Rushed to the Rusty Dragon (where Lirianne was staying). He Knocked on her Door, only to Find the Room Empty, but for a Wooden Box with a Note ontop. Opening the Note, it Read
"Tiberiu, I don;t do well with goodbyes, but I must Continue on my Journey. You have Great talent with a Pistol, So i leave you with this. Its old, and beat up, but her Aim is true.
its Yours now, take good care of it. I hope to meet you again some day, Little Friend.
~Lirianne"
With a Smile on his face, Tiberiu Opened the Box, to find, just as Lirianne had said, a Very battered old Pistol, a few shots and some Powder. Tiberiu was overjoyed. He worked Even harder to Gather Money for gear, After a few Months of work, he was ready. And just in time, As Sandru had Returned to Town, and was looking for trusted Friends to start up his Own caravan. Feeling he was Ready, Tiberiu Volinteered.
TIberiu is a CG Human (varsian) Gunslinger. Being Younger he always has a Positive outlook on life. He is Very cheerful, Quick to make a Joke, and always willing to talk. He is Fiercely Loyal to Sandru, who he Views as an Older Brother. He is a bit Shy around Shalelu (whom he Thinks she is Very pretty).
Foster Child
Courageous
Witty Repartee
Leaning back in his Chair with his Hat over his eyes, Lightly Dosing, Tiberiu hears Bethana's question. Not sure, and not really caring if she was talking to him, He Chuckles. Tiberiu's Mind almost automaticly comes up with a smart remark, Grinning he replys.
" Well Bethana, Something as sweet as you would surely melt in his kinda' down pour... If I did catch a Cold, would you warm me up?"
He waits for the usual response to his Shameless Flirting; a Wet bar-rage to the face. Instead he is Roughly Tipped out of his Chair, Banging his Head on the Floor
"HEY! what was that for!? I was just being friendly!"
Looking up, he Sees Bethana Standing Above him, Scoul on her face.
" I've told you one too many times, Tiberiu, I will not be talked to with that kind of Lanagauge!"
Then, as expected, he gets the wet rag to the face.

Ceru |

This is DeathQuaker here --thanks for the encouragement, DM Patcher.
Here is Ceru, a Chaotic Good Gnome Rogue. Character sheet's in the profile, along with background. This is a draft build, subject to change (and questions and suggestions). For one thing, I may well swap out the Breadth of Experience feat for something more combat-practical like Weapon Finesse; I just love the flavor of it but while I want the character to be a skill monkey, I want her to be useful all around as well, so I am still thinking on that.
The Questionnaire:
1. Which NPC does your character know? What is your character's attachment to said character? Ameiko; she has been a good friend of Ameiko’s for many years and helps out from time to time at the Rusty Dragon (I put a little more about that in her character background on the character sheet).
2. What motivation would your character have to join the caravan? To travel with Ameiko in particular, and in general to grab at an excellent opportunity to explore more of the world--Ceru has gnomish curiosity amped to 11.
3. What will your character contribute to the group? Excellent food, a pleasant disposition, a sharp pair of eyes, a working knowledge of magical artifacts, and the ability to stab bad guys where it hurts the most
4. What are your plans for your character mechanically? An adventurer-style-rogue, focusing on skillmonkeying first (with use magic device and rogue skills at the fore) and finesse-style combat second (but still definitely to be capable at that)
5. What are your plans for your character from a story-perspective? Ceru is a deeply curious individual and while some early experiences got her burned, she’s eager to see new places and learn new things—and make new friends, as well as continue to be a good friend to Ameiko. For her, the journey is the destination. I’ll probably have a more explicit answer once I see the rest of the party makeup and get a better feel for what the group is doing and how I see her role in the story as it unfolds.
6. What do you think of the Caravan mechanic presented in the Jade Regent Player's Guide? Does it seem unnecessary, or do you think it will add to the campaign? It looks like a lot of fun! I can see how it might be tiresome if we get bogged down in tracking every detail every moment, but I think as long as we don’t let it overtake the campaign, it gives the party something unique to work on and support together. I love that we can put our own stamp on how the caravan functions.
7. What is your opinion on the concept of romances in a roleplaying game? Would you pursue one, or prefer that they remain an untouched subject? Generally speaking, romances are fine, and I’d pursue one if it suited my character (although I don’t think any of the four NPCs would find a gnome adventuress attractive), with the following caveats:
---- If one PC is in a romance with an NPC, and the other PCs have no similar roleplaying-deep storylines to follow, then it adds up that one PC and his/her player is going to be given more story opportunities than the rest of the group. It will be a balancing act to make sure people feel like they have something to do (or that players feel comfortable creating and pursuing their own roleplaying opportunities even if they opt out of romance).
---- Lighthearted flirting and courting are fine. Intimacy—particularly in a play-by-post forum, which is public and participated in by people who are, relatively speaking, strangers to each other---needs to be handled delicately and must involve touching base with players out of character before anything is suggested in game. There’s romance and sex in games that I run—but those are games I run in person with good friends I’ve known for years, in our homes. Discretion definitely needs to be the better part of valor, and assumptions absolutely cannot be made about someone’s limits and tolerances (which obviously I realize you know, or you wouldn’t be asking this question, which I appreciate! :) ).

Magdelia Estuv-Brez |

Here's my (Broven/Ingle) character, Patcher. I'm recycling her from the other JR pbp, so the stats and whatnot aren't correct at the moment. Tonight, when I can give it proper attention, I'll correct that and answer the questions. Just wanted to get my foot in the door. The fluff in her profile is pretty much good to go though, so you can check that out if you'd like.
Mags is CN half-elven witch (I like the half-elfves for some reason...) She's a cook at the Rusty Dragon, and will be taking the Best Friend (Ameiko) trait. More in a few hours.
Also, I see a lot of familiar faces in this crowd ;)

Ceru |

Tavern Scene
Sitting at a table, in some sort of booster seat for smaller folk, is a plum-haired gnome rapidly and deftly shuffling a deck of cards. She looks out the window at Bethana's comment and frowns. "I hope Ameiko doesn't get caught in it, it looks to be a bad one." She lays all the cards on the table in a fan, scoops them back up, then deals out a hand to herself. She picks it up, frowns, then twists her wrist to produce another card from her sleeve and adds it to her hand. "That's where it went."
As Tiberiu gets sent unceremoniously to the floor, Ceru claps. "That's it, Bethana! Show the bigguns they can't just take advantage! She laughs, then winks at Tiberiu and Jasper to assure she's joking around.

Odiril Andosana |

Here is my proposed character for this AP. He is the younger brother of Shalelu Andosana and is an elven Magus, focusing on the dancing dervish feat line. I still need to work on the crunch (I'm on a Mac, so PCGen isn't working out too great right now), but I'll get that and the background updated asap.
1. Which NPC does your character know? What is your character's attachment to said character?
I am Shalelu's MUCH younger brother. She is well-known. I am not. But that will change.
2. What motivation would your character have to join the caravan?
It is time that I step out of Shalelu's shadow. She is gifted in her way, but my aptitude for magic and battle is more valuable than her hunting skill.
3. What will your character contribute to the group?
I will provide a healthy amount of damage and enemy-frustrating (debuffing) spells.
4. What are your plans for your character mechanically?
For now, I plan on pursuing the Dancing Dervish style of Magus without dipping into a multi class. Barring any exciting options in Ultimate Combat or gaps in our party, I don't likely see that changing.
5. What are your plans for your character from a story-perspective?
I imagine that Shalelu and I will bicker as siblings do, but I will come to respect her talents and see why she is as well-regarded as she is. While, at the same time, stepping into my own and making a name for myself as well.
6. What do you think of the Caravan mechanic presented in the Jade Regent Player's Guide? Does it seem unnecessary, or do you think it will add to the campaign?
I'm intrigued by it. I think it would be kind of tedious in tabletop setting, but seems perfectly suited for the deliberative, slower pace of a PbP.
7. What is your opinion on the concept of romances in a roleplaying game? Would you pursue one, or prefer that they remain an untouched subject?
It makes me a little uncomfortable both as a player and a GM. I think it would be fine to have romances as an ancillary story piece, but having long, drawn-out romantic conversations with my GM or other players.

Ceru |

Jasper nods to Ceru and moves to sit at her table.
"Far too cold to be out on a night like this. Do you know where Ameiko went Ceru?"
Ceru reassembles her deck and shuffles her cards, dealing Jasper a hand (though there has been no statement of what game she is actually intending to play). "She didn't say, which worries me a mite, though I figure sometimes she just gets tired of all my questions." She grins, trying to push away her worry.
She turns and deals cards to herself while continuing to speak, "And what brings you in here on this cold evening, gentlemen?"

Jasper Lind |

Jasper gives a sad smile.
"The tea as usual Ceru. Nobody makes my mother's tea quite like Ameiko. I know I am supposed to meditate my worldly cares away, but sometimes I miss my mother's tea terribly."
Picking up his cards bemusedly
"But of course the company is also to be treasured. What game are we playing?"
Not that it matters of course, any excuse for company is welcome right now. I should concentrate on my meditations more, it is not good to be so morose.

Rhome Stalt |

I neglected to mention Tiberiu's Age, I'm picturing 17-18ish, Old enough to be intrested in women, but young enough to have the "awkward college kid" kinda feel"
Picking Himself up off the floor, he Up-rights his chair and has a Seat, Pointing at the table, as if asking Ceru to Deal him in aswell.
"She'll come 'round some day, me thinks.." He says, Grin still on his face.
" Where else is there to go in his Town? I reckn' this is the most exciting place to be, with all the Travelers from outs' o town and all stopping by. This the rain comming, we should get all'sorts in tonight"

imimrtl |

I have two submissions I am kicking back and forth patcher, having a hard time so I will make both and see what happens. First is a Bear Shaman Druid who is madly in love with Ameiko. The second is an archer of some sort, still trying to decide if I want to go archer fighter or ranger, I will probably go fighter though. Let me know what you think.

Anen Elaradre |

Ameiko is is Anen's Best Friend™, having long been a confidante and an inspiration to the young half-elf.
2. What motivation would your character have to join the caravan?
Anen envys Ameiko's time spent adventuring; seeing more of the world as well as proving to her father that she can handle the rigors of merchantry as well as any son could are goals that will push Anen toward exploration and adventure.
3. What will your character contribute to the group?
Nothing. Haha, just kidding. Anen is a beautiful girl, and a more than competent "face" for the party. She aims to excel in social situations while beaing able to hold her own in combat. She also hopes to make the party cleric/paladin cringe as often as possible.
4. What are your plans for your character mechanically?
I plan to keep Anen as a Dervish Dancer all the way to the end. I'm interested to test the archetype out, to see if it's as fun as I think it looks.
5. What are your plans for your character from a story-perspective?
Not knowing the story, this is a tough question to answer, but I can confidently predict that Anen will prove to be a fun and agreeable companion to travel alongside. She is peaceable enough, but is more than capable of defending herslef if threatened, and she will ALWAYS defend Ameiko. Anen's goals are simple: See the world, get rich, or die trying.
6. What do you think of the Caravan mechanic presented in the Jade Regent Player's Guide? Does it seem unnecessary, or do you think it will add to the campaign?
I get nervous when they implement things like this, because of the varied execution in the past (Kingdom Rules good; Fame/Infamy or whatever in CoT, not so good, etc.), but assuming that the adventure supports the rules sufficiently, the system seems from the Player's side of the table to be a worthwhile addition to the mechanics of the game.
7. What is your opinion on the concept of romances in a roleplaying game? Would you pursue one, or prefer that they remain an untouched subject?
It's potentially an awkward situation, as would be expected when you get different people of different proclivities pretending to be even more different people with even more different proclivities. The concept worked in Dragon Age, though (and I think that's what this is based off of, clearly), so it could work with Pathfinder. It's going to be much easier in PbP than it would be in person with people you look at every week or every day, I'll tell you that much. I'll participate. I'm a Bard!
Anen herself is a beautiful 24-year old girl, trained in the Arts by the finest tutors that her father could hire, and in swordplay and magic by her mother, an ex-warrior among the elves of the Mierani Forest. Her voice is as sweet as a songbird's, but Anen's first love is (and has always been) dancing. Anen is hurt by her father's sorrow over not having a male heir, and wishes more than anything to prove herself capable of inheriting the business one day. She feels that she has sufficiently learned the art of a honeyed tongue from him.
Anen spends her days studying with tutors, and her nights dancing and performing at the Rusty Dragon, Sandpoint's most infamous establishment. She has forged a long and lasting friendship with Ameiko, who Anen playfully teases about being the only woman in Sandpoint more beautiful than she is. Many men have fallen in love with Anen, but she has been less than impressed by their crude and often boorish passes, and in fact grows tired of the whole affair.
Best Friend (Ameiko)
Focused Mind
I'm the aforementioned bard :-)
Tavern scene
The door opens, spray from the storm briefly blowing through the frame before a lithe, beautiful half-elven woman pushes her way through it. A strike of lightning briefly darkens her siloutte, just before the door slams shut, battered by the wind.
Evening, Beth - Ameiko here?
Having been told that Ameiko is not, in fact, here, the lass pouts for a moment and skips gracefully toward a low stage set up at the far end of the bar. She sets down a large pack and carefully sets an exotic curved sword beside it, before beginning to stretch. She smiles at the patrons, eyes glinting with amusement.
'Evening, friends. I'm your entertainment tonight. Anything you'd like to hear?

I have two submissions I am kicking back and forth patcher, having a hard time so I will make both and see what happens. First is a Bear Shaman Druid who is madly in love with Ameiko. The second is an archer of some sort, still trying to decide if I want to go archer fighter or ranger, I will probably go fighter though. Let me know what you think.
If it were up to me, I'd say the archer fighter, on account of never having seen one before. But either works.

Ceru |

To Jasper, "I was thinking Whist, but we've only got two-" She pauses as Tiberiu joins them, "-Three players, and we need a fourth so someone has a partner." She frowns, the wheels in her gnomish mind turning. "I wonder if we alternate in that..." she drifts off, muttering about odds calculations, then goes back to dealing cards. "Or we could do Lanterloo, or Three Lantern Jump. That's a good one, it is."
Ceru grins at Anen as she enters and gives her a wave; both being good friends of Ameiko, she's happy to see her.

Iozif Henricson |

Can post daily and I live in the Central Time Zone USA. Currently CDT/UTC-05
Sandru worked with Dad and me many times through the years. Dad and later I often served as Scout/Guards for Sandru's ventures. With Dad's death Sandru
is the closest "relative" I have. I know he looks out for me as he can and I him.
2. What motivation would your character have to join the caravan?
First it's the only job he knows, second he's footloose and fancy free, third it's an adventure of a lifetime.
3. What will your character contribute to the group?
The group skill monkey, Scout, Guide,Guard, and healer with more to come and able to fill most roles.
4. What are your plans for your character mechanically?
Sprirt Ranger all the way, Feats will mostly be skill based not combat base unless badly needed.
5. What are your plans for your character from a story-perspective?
Meet the sprits of many lands, To Stare in Wonder at the many exotic creatures, places, people. To make sure make sure the companions don't become, well ... jaded. (Might reject me for that pun alone.)
6. What do you think of the Caravan mechanic presented in the Jade Regent Player's Guide? Does it seem unnecessary, or do you think it will add to the campaign?
Could work as a guide and give something definite to work with but I am good with handwave too. It is very idealized of course.
7. What is your opinion on the concept of romances in a roleplaying game? Would you pursue one, or prefer that they remain an untouched subject?
They rarely work but when they do it adds greatly to the experiance. Can be very tough in play with players you don't know.
Only would persue if bought to me and am good if not a major part of play.
Iozif Henricson is well known his father and he worked as caravan guards all their lives in and out of Sandpoint. He'll know and be known by all natives or anyone that knows Sandru.
A dusky faintly green half orc, dripping wet in common travel clothes, bounces in. He looks around taking in everything. He says to Tiberiu" Like me perhaps? Still bouncing off the floor I see."
He move to the correct place by the fire and starts wringing out his clothes and repairs his appearance. My a mage would be handy now he thinks. "How about a hot mulled cider, Bethana? saying as he slaps some coins down.

Rhome Stalt |

Tiberiu waves Iozif as he Enters
" O you know me too well, Keeping the Floor warm is my Second Favotite thing to do. I've only played Three Lantern a Few times... Lets give that a try" He says with a Innocent look on his face, which fails to hide a Mischevious grin.

Dreaming Warforged here with an elven diviner. I hope I can participate enough even though I'll be away for the week!
A stooped elf sits by the window, looking at the clouds looming. "Well Bethana, a storm is fitting on this day, for I mourn the passing of a great seer and a friend. The storm might chill my bones, but I will nevertheless welcome its passion. Anen, dear, could I ask after that you sing a little something in her memory. Nothing too dark, she wouldn't have wanted it."
A warm cup of water is brought to him and he reaches for a pocket in his dark blue jacket, but catches himself. Where else would he find such a nice fragrant tea than in the Rusty Dragon? I'll keep my stash for later... He moves the tea leaves about, perhaps reading their pattern for a sign of the future to come.

PirateDevon here. I am on PST. I can post everyday but the "whens" on the weekend are a little like swiss cheese depending on my 1yr old. All in all I usually get plenty of times to check in. I am new to PbP but I have been playing RPGs for about 18 years and I came on the boards to seek PbP because I am ready to commit. Please see my character details for answers to my questions and stats. I have not yet done any gear. I think that is it. Submitted for consideration; Karoka the Half-Orc Sorcerer.
Like others Karoka has worked the caravans and is foster son to Koya Mvashti. I'll let other decide how warmly they deal with the half-orc but he is generally outgoing
A half-orc dressed in bright Varisian layers enters the Rusty Dragon. Surveying the scene he sees familiar faces and antics. I thought perhaps my ingenious plan to get out of this storm was unique to me, shocking to see so many would choose the tavern over the warm fires of home Karoka does his best to emphasis the humorous intent of his statement. Diplomacy Roll 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Karoka will offer smiles and nods to those who seem to greet him warmly, ignoring anyone who might look on him with disdain. I've had enough of that in my life I need not give it any power with attention He will stop at the bar, ask for something that might be both warm and have a kick to it and will then attempt to find a seat where he might see both the playing of the bard and the movement of the storm outside.

Say Nik'o looks depressed even for him. I wait for the song to end then boom "Nik'o say me a fortune fair to call this storm's omen a lie, bring cheer to these halls and good winds to the roads".
Ah Karoka's here just as broody but much determined to be more cheery.
"But to a vagabond of the road such as I, inns such as this, full of friends and cheer, this is the only hearth I know or care too. Iozif's voice rolls out drowning the thunder.

Levelle Mahe |

As he makes his way to settle in, Karoka looks to Iozif:
But to a vagabond of the road such as I, inns such as this, full of friends and cheer, this is the only hearth I know or care too.
True enough. It is a mysterious thing how much more welcoming a "hearth" seems when the companionship is right. Karoka gestures with his mug meaningfully.
Settling at his table and seeing Nik'o looking distant Karoka leans in the elf's direction and says. Mother Koya says it was her time. She was ready and wouldn't she be the type to know? You seem sad and Desna knows the pain is fresh. But find some peace in knowing she went on because she was meant to. My thoughts, at least.
Karoka will lean back in his chair careful to keep his weight from straining the chair too much but maneuvering to put his feet up on a nearby stool. Despite his attempts at good cheer he can't help but sympathize with the enchanter. It really was her time wasn't it? Old as she was it still seems to soon to many of us. Karoka will look out across the tavern and watch the other patrons talk, play and sing.

Ah, this is just so tempting, but after rough-drafting a character, I decided that my plate is too full right now for another game.
It sounds as if a wonderful group of players is itching to take their shot at the AP, and I wish you the very best of luck with the group. Have fun, I will be checking the story you tell.

Magdelia Estuv-Brez |

Mags' profile page is up-to-date with the exception of spells and gear.
1. Which NPC does your character know? What is your character's attachment to said character?
Over the last eight years Mags has become quite close with Ameiko. For the last four she has been in Ameiko's employ as well, working as a cook at the Rusty Dragon. Full details are available in her profile backstory.
2. What motivation would your character have to join the caravan?
Mags shares Ameiko's restless spirit. It was this mutual love for adventure that formed the seed of their relationship. She would do nearly anything to join her friend on the road, and put her past as far behind her as she could.
3. What will your character contribute to the group?
She will focus on buff/debuffing, perhaps focusing more on one or the other depending on group make-up. Her skills include Knowledge Nature and Arcana as well as Spellcraft and, incongruously, Intimidate. She can also cook and has moderate Survival skills.
4. What are your plans for your character mechanically?
At this point I'm looking at straight witch. I've been trying to play a witch for some time now, and really just want the un-watered experience the first time through.
5. What are your plans for your character from a story-perspective?
Mags didn't choose to be a witch. In fact, she didn't even summon her familiar. Her familiar was sent to her by her patron for reasons that Mags doesn't know. Indeed, Mags doesn't even know who her patron is, and her familiar is not volunteering the information. I've left this whole thing pretty open-ended, as I'd like to discuss it with you at greater length. But, in a nut-shell, her story arc would primarily concern discovering the reasons for being chosen.
6. What do you think of the Caravan mechanic presented in the Jade Regent Player's Guide? Does it seem unnecessary, or do you think it will add to the campaign?
It's interesting, at least. I'd like to give it a try and see how it works out, adjusting (or illiminating) it as we find out how it goes.
7. What is your opinion on the concept of romances in a roleplaying game? Would you pursue one, or prefer that they remain an untouched subject?
Generally, I have no problem with them. Obviously, this isn't the place for 'graphic' adult content. But using the old "fade to black" technique would be fine. I think I would persue it if it made sense in character. Of course, I know that I won't really know my character well enough to say until I've had some time to play her.
