1 / 2 HD Skeletons

Rules Questions

I've been reading up on the rules for skeletons and notice that the table for CR goes all the way down to 1/2 HD, but I can't find anything that has this!

Does 1/2 HD mean something else than literally a 0.5 multiplier? Where in the books does it explain this?

I've never seen 0.5 HD implemented; the lowest HD I've seen was a single HD with a negative modifier. One can assume it's included in case it's ever used.

A 1HD skeleton has 1 x d8 hit die. I'd say a 1/2 HD skeleton has 1 x d4 hit die.

In 3.5 D&D, some creatures had fractions of a hit die. Lizards had 1/2d8 hit dice, and bats had 1/4th of a d8 for a hit die. But it seems fractional hit dice were removed from pathfinder, so that line in the table is pointless now, as no monster uses fractional hit dice anymore.

Maybe it's so you can apply classes to them and still end up with a 1HD skelly?

It is indeed a leftover bit of rules that is now obsolete. That line is only used if you create a skeleton from a old 3.5 monster.
