Okay, first of all let me say that the trait as originally published was overpowered. I argued against it in the past because it really was crazy.
...that said, here is the new version in the errata released today:
Heirloom Weapon: You carry a non-masterwork simple or martial weapon that has been passed down from generation to generation in your family (pay the standard gp cost for the weapon). When you select this trait, choose one of the following benefits: proficiency with that specific weapon, a +1 trait bonus on attacks of opportunity with that specific weapon, or a +2 trait bonus on one kind of combat maneuver when using that specific weapon.
I really think this one speaks for itself.

So it went from something almost every fighter-type who planned on specializing wanted tooooooo... something almost no fighter-type is ever going to take.
Nice.
are you crazy? every AoO specialist is going to take this. its even better now.
example: AoO trip monkey; you can either get +1 to hit with most trips with a reach weapon and the AoO from improved trip, or +2 on every trip but no +1 on the AoO strike afterward
its still good, but not "every melee should take this" good anymore
edit didnt see the "non-masterwork" clause. yep above 2nd level its crap

Yep, no one will want to take it. Because if you play your character right. YOU WOULD NEVER HAVE A MAGIC WEAPON!
HOnestly, all it needed was to take ff the extra +1 and leave it a MW weapon for non MW cost that you are proficient in.
EDIT: Sorry didn't see your last line. Don't take the rail on you personal plz.

Ok, we're back into Awesome Territory. :)

Errata files can be found on the various product pages, making them an unholy PITA to find, or notice when they are updated, IMO.
Example; errata for the core book can be found near the bottom of this page.

Chris Kenney wrote:They also send out an email to people with the PDF version notifying you of updates.Ah. Guess I'll always be going with Set's unholy PITA route, then. Unless they create a "subscribe to errata" option...
I know this can be a bit confusing, but...
In this case, we're talking about errata PDFs that detail the changes between printings of a book. Almost all of the books we reprint are in the Pathfinder RPG line, and you'll find links to all of those errata files from the Pathfinder RPG Resources page.
Adventurer's Armory is one of the few products outside of that line to have been reprinted, and you'll find the errata PDF for it on its product page, beneath the description.

Yep. As I said in my edit, I found it on the product page. And it makes sense that you'll only do errata for things you reprint, updating old printings with new information.
A request, however: any chance that you could add "we did errata for X Book" into the weekly emails? I ask because, as a store owner, I like being up to date on which printings have what differences. It helps to be able point out to customers what they are buying.

Also, since I guess my own thoughts weren't clear enough, the problem is that this trait is strictly worse than other options for those bonuses now. Yes, other traits exist that do those things. Those traits work with multiple weapons, both in type and in terms of the actual weapon, and don't stack with this one.
It's only worth taking if you're not a martial character and want to be proficient with a weapon outside your class selection. While the old version's "do everything for everyone" attitude was too far, this really hurts the characters who, thematically, should be using it while still giving the biggest boost to characters who really don't have the same motivation.

3 people marked this as a favorite. |
The amount of crying going on for fixing what was a blatantly ridiculous trait is hilarious.
As for it not being masterwork, you can still have a level 3 cleric cast a Masterwork Transformation spell on it so it can be enchanted. The trait still works just fine for any character background ideas people want to do, it is just no longer a complete BS trait.

I'll ask Liz to drop in a mention.
