I am a cleric with CHA 10 (not bad for a dwarf). I would like to increase my CHA so I can channel energy more often. I already have the Extra Channel feat, but I want even more! Would a Headband of Alluring Charisma do the trick? If I understand correctly, as soon as I put it on, I would get increases to charisma-based skill checks (e. g. Diplomacy). After 24 hours the enhancement bonus is treated as permanent, and then I would get more uses of channel energy. I mention the headband rather than the Ioun stone because the former is upgradeable.

Temporary bonus also increases the DC of Channeled Energy (and spell DC, if you're a Cha-Caster). Once it's permanent, you get more channels (and bonus spell slots, etc.) Remember that it's only permanent as long as the item is worn. You can't wear it for a day then sell it and keep the bonus.
What Grick said. It's a "permanent" bonus as long as that headband is still on your head. If someone successfully attempts to destroy it, take it off you, or you take it off yourself, then you would immediately lose that bonus. Otherwise, everything affected by an increase to Cha is changed appropriately to reflect whatever bonus the headband gives you.
