Liberty's Edge

Hello All,

This appears to be the best place for this, so I'll give a description of what the story of this NPC is and I'm hoping for a number of suggestions regarding the appropriate classes, some feats to consider and perhaps some magical items or two.

This girl (human) is about 18-19 years of age. She has latent magical abilities and is a little clumsy with them. Some time ago she discovered a small bag of bones which had etchings on them and its some type of spell book. She does practice some type of witch craft where she communes with the dead and likes to perform fairly simple rituals from a small book of rituals she located with the bag of bones. She is Evil.

Basically she is misunderstood but has a history of being adopted by a well to do family from Gypsies.

She's a bit of a racist, is not very stealthy and also has a small doll (which is magical) which helps her in her rituals. I'm suggesting a CR 2 or 3.

That's all I got - now go!

I'd say perhaps a Bones Oracle (maybe with the Possessed curse) or a sorcerer of some sort. An Arcane bloodline sorcerer could also work, with the doll being her Arcane Bond bonded object.

A witch could fit from a flavor point of view (with the whole witchcraft and bones thing), but they're not quite 'latent' magical abilities, since you know where you're getting your powers from (a patron and a familiar, in this case).

What is the purpose of the NPC? Antagonist? Villain? Resource for the PCs? Something else or just a plain encounter?

Also, any particular campaign setting this is going into or just your home build?

I'm not quite sure how I'm going to use her yet but I would like her to be an antagonist yes. She's basically trying to do what the PCs are doing but from the other end of the alignment spectrum. She's not a long term villain and may be able to be "saved". I like the whole redemption thing and it gives the Inquisitor in the party something to achieve.

Might I recommend the Gravewalker Witch archetype in Ultimate Magic?

It uses a small doll as a familiar and has abilities to directly control undead. It might add a bit of a voodoo vibe to her, which may or may not work for what you're going for.

I guess I'm looking for a Lucy style character from Bram Stoker's Dracula, with a more major player twist.

Liberty's Edge

Summoner with her Eidolon as a doll. I cannot say how creepy that can be, even when the character is non-evil...

Liberty's Edge

Summoner...actually, that's kind of cool...and creepy.

A summoner sounds cool where the Eidolon could take the form of a life size doll, the doll she carries could be a magical item that adds some hit points and evolution points to the Eidolon whenever she carries it.

An Eidolon that appears as a life-sized doll and fights with a giant sewing needle would be creepy as hell. Just treat the sewing needle as a shortspear or javelin. If the doll has a few of the needles stored in it's "threading" they could serve as ammunition.

That concept might be a little too cheesy but i like the theme. Maybe the doll could look like Sally from Nightmare before Christmas? :)

maybe a broodmaster, the doll is one eidolon, and the rest she summons are small undead-looking things?

but that's a bit of a stretch.
