Weapon plus Natural Attack Question

Rules Questions

Dark Archive

One of my players asked me to post this:

"When you have a creature who can use a weapon and a natural attack such as a demon who may have a sword and use a claw attack, If that creature has the Double Slice Feat do they do full strength damage on their secondary attack?

On that note if a creature has multiple attacks such as claw/claw bite, can double slice be used to add full strength damage to the bite as well?

If not are there rules for a feat with this ability?"

Thanks,

Matt

Double Slice:
Double Slice (Combat)
Your off-hand weapon while dual-wielding strikes with greater power.

Prerequisite: Dex 15, Two-Weapon Fighting.

Benefit: Add your Strength bonus to damage rolls made with your off-hand weapon.

Normal: You normally add only half of your Strength modifier to damage rolls made with a weapon wielded in your off-hand.

So the Demon would have to have TWF (Not Multiweapon Fighting) to get the feat. It comes down to if Natural Attacks count a weapons for this feat - I would say yes. So with this Feat the Natural Attacks would get full strength damage (But still be at BAB-5 to hit, until it gets Multiattack)

If the creature only Claw/Claw/Bite attacked then all three attacks would get full Strength, as both claws and Bites are primary attacks, unless otherwise noted for the creature.

No. Double Slice increases the damage for off-hand attacks. Off-hand attacks are a reference to attacks made with manufactured weapons. Natural attacks are not off-hand; the two-weapon fighting system is not used with respect to natural weapons. When using a manufactured weapons, the natural attacks are secondary attacks, which are not the same thing as off-hand attacks.

No, for the reason stated above. However, claws and bites are both primary attacks and gain full strength bonus in any case; this is a change from 3.5.

If there isn't one in print, there most certainly is one indirectly. Anyone can make a new feat. That is the glory of the Open Gaming movement. Write it up. GM approves/changes it. There it is.

I agree with Howie & David.

Double Slice does not apply to natural attacks.

Primary natural attacks do full STR damage.

Claw and Bite are primary attacks. Full Attack Bonus, Full strength bonus.

Secondary attacks use Attack Bonus -5 and half strength.

Ok so help me out here with some direction,

Half Orc Barbarian, has the lesser beast totem, gives him 2 claw attacks while raging, he also has Razor Tusk (secondary attack -5 Bab and half str) the feat giving him a bite attack

If he wants to get his multiple attacks from being a barbarian he has to wield a weapon in his main hand, in his off hand while raging he is using his claw at -5 BAB unless he picks up the multiattack which he would qualify for because his bite gives him 3 natural attacks now.

He has two weapon fighting in case he wants to wield 2 weapons.

How do I go about getting full strength bonus while using a main hand weapon, for his off hand which is now considered a secondary attack, or even for his bite which is also considered a secondary attack?

Or is there any combination of current feats that would apply?

(hate writing a feat just for one specific instance)

Main hand vs off-hand doesn't enter the discussion with Natural Attacks, just Primary vs Secondary.

By using a weapon, you make all your natural attacks Secondary Attacks. -5 to Attack, 1/2 STR to damage.

You would need a feat that says Secondary Natural Attacks use the Full STR bonus instead of 1/2 STR.

There may be such a feat out there, but I can't think of it off the top of my head.

Ultimately I would just like to see him feral and go claw/claw bite but at high level loosing 3 attacks on his main hand is a big sacrafice because natural attacks dont increase based on BAB
