So, can you still grapple something 3 or more size categories larger than you? Nothing is mentioned in the Core Rulebook.

You can try ;)

Just doesn't seem right that a halfling could grapple an ancient red wyrm, a storm giant, a tarrasque, etc.... How do they get their arms around it?

Also, why is it that you can grapple any creature, but you can't bull rush, reposition, trip, or any other combat maneuver on the same creature?

OH you can try to grapple it and its modifers pretty much assure it ain't happening

well you'll notice those creature often have insanely high CMD's in the case of the great wyrm red dragon 61.

show me how a halfing might possibly get to +41 on his grapple attempt even then he'd require a natural 20 and even then the grapple only lasts for 1 round before it get rerolled.

ther rules arn't so much there for the single creature to do it but for multiple creatures.

20 halfings now try and grapple the great red wyrm 19 of them grant a +2 bonus giving +38 to the check on top of whatever the one halfing making the check can do. making it in the realm of possible.

I say 20 because that's as many small creature will fit around a 4x4 gargantuan template. assuming the red dragon ever let them get that close and surround him

You could describe this any number of ways.

I would describe it as the halfling reaching into the dragon's nostrils, grabbing fist fulls of nose hair, hooking his little feet underneath the dragon's lower jaw, and yanking REAL hard while hanging on for the coming ride. The immense pain this would cause the dragon would effectively give it the "grappled" condition.

All it takes is a little imagination. :D

Liberty's Edge

It's entirely possible for a halfling to grapple a dragon.

But why would he want to? It accomplishes nothing.

Assuming he can pull it off at all, it would penalize the dragon's attacks and keep it from flying away.

When fighting a party, a grounded dragon is a dead dragon in most cases.

Till the dragon ungrapples the halfling like its nothing or full attacks it into oblivion.

Hey man, it's all theoretical anyways.

Assuming there was ANY hero who could hold a dragon for even one round to keep it from flying away, a fighter and paladin tag teaming the grounded dragon may well kill it in one round.

EDIT: The APG does put this into the realm of possibility by allowing you to add your favored class bonuses to your CMD against certain maneuvers. The aforementioned halfling, for example, could min/max its strength and then add +20 to CMD vs. grapples, ensuring that the dragon wouldn't escape so easily once grappled.

And if it is a halfling monk, it only compounds the problem.
