so six party members can drink a small bit from it?

A potion is single use and the drinker of the potion is the target (singular). Two targets require two potions. It seems like a decent idea for a new elixir though.

If the players were insistent on following through with the idea, you could shorten the duration time of the potion. Divide number of potion swapping sippers from total time it would be from the normal one person/one use.

Scarab Sages

Of course, once you allow this, be prepared for them to try it with all potions.

Give it failure chances like miscast scrolls. The potential for random magical mishap could keep the cheese in check.

Players could certainly ask, but there's a stronger argument for water breathing to work this way as a house rule because that's the standard effect of the spell.

Good idea. Sipping a precise amount of a potion should involve some degree of skill.
