As previously said I believe his condition is not life threatening but it is debilitating and means he can't create the comic for stretches at a time. If there was something more serious I think we would have known about it by now.
This happens with the comic from time to time things will go quiet as he deals with his illness and then there will be a flurry of new comics as he feels better. It's just one of those things. Some webcomic artists have the capacity to post like clockwork. Others, for various reasons, do not. Rich Burlew, due to his illness, falls into the latter camp.
I'm sure we will return to our scheduled programming soon.

Don't know, don't care. He's made it clear that he doesn't want to talk about it, and I'm just happy to enjoy this awesome entertainment that he puts out there for free. Also, I started using Piperka years ago to keep track of updates of the many webcomics that I read, and now I hardly notice when one stops updating for awhile. (I got tired of clicking on dozens of bookmarks every day just to find a few fresh pages, so I looked for an alternative and found one.) Someday I might learn how this newfangled RSS thingie works, but so far I haven't seen the need.

All I know is that if you express even the least amount of dissatisfaction with the update schedule on the Giantitp.com message boards, prepare to get banned. I'm speaking from experience.
From what I hear, 80% of subjects will get you banned.
But I agree with above posters that he should be left alone.
