PbP AP Recruitment

Gamer Connection

1 to 50 of 108 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

I am beginning an AP. Not sure which, so I'll need some input from players on this one. I'm a roleplayer, not a rollplayer and as such I may now and again play hard and fast with the rules. Also my first PbP game as a DM so we'll see how that works out though I am very active on the boards so I expect no problems.

If you are interested I'll be taking 5 players, bonus points for dropping in first, being in Pentor Lionsmane's Mercenary Game with me previously, and amazing Characters (Mostly the last one)

Character Creation:
20 Point Buy
3 traits, one of which must come from the Aps Player's Guide (exceptions may be made if the concept fits none of them.)
1 Dm Boon (May be an item, may be an extra class feature, could be anything) which will provide roleplay hooks and grow in power as you level

Again, when you post, please add your preference of PbP, I am currently running CC with my at home group and so would like to refine it, but I have the opening books for almost all of them and can pick up others if necessary.

Now, I'm going to bed, so goodnight to all of you and I will see your answers in the morning.

EDIT: I should point out, I have a very big dislike for the "Pretty little snowflake" races. I will only allow a monster PC (meaning any from he bestiary and not the Core rulebook) if you have a hell of a good roleplaying idea.

Hey,

I'm willing to play! I'll create a character and shoot it to you via e-mail if you don't mind. Just let me get your e-mail address. I am particularly interested in playing a halfling (or kender... mwahahaha) rogue.

I'm interested in this. I've been slacking on the Monk love for a while now, I figure it's time I bring it back. So I'll make a monk and take a package from the APG if necessary to focus on a role more needed by the party. As for APs.. I've started in many, finished in none, so I can make whichever work.

While I'm not good with full kender, you can certainly go with a halfling with a kender flavor. Just don't blame me if the other PCs string you up by the ears. Email is ryuko_kun@yahoo.com

Welcome Me'mori, monk is fine and dandy, any backstory or race thoughts yet?

I'm interested. Especially if you do CC for the AP. I would play "Reyelle", a female Varisian Szcarni pick-pocket from Tamrivena. Recently estranged from her gypsy neighborhood, she has defied her father and secretly left home to pursue the life of an adventurer.

By AP I don't suppose you would be up for running Age of Worms? If so, that's where my vote goes. If not, I'll throw up a vote for Serpent's Skull. I'm pretty busy at the moment with online classes and a daughter, but I could make time for either of those.

As for character I'm thinking either a mutagen based alchemist who's something of a drunken and debased noble (not debased as in I'm trying to play an evil character, but likes his whiskey and women, think Arthur). Or possibly a summoner of some sort (likely the archetype that rides inside the eidolon). I'll get better ideas up after I've slept.

Here is an early draft of Reyelle. I'm not much of an optimizer, more about flavor. I'll tweak her profile and add a description/background later if I'm chosen. I would enjoy any AP but I have either played or dungeon-mastered most of them starting with the Shackled City all the way to Kingmaker. I'm partial to Carrion Crown because I haven't played it and Reyelle is inspired by the section on Tamrivena in the Rule of Fear accessory on Ustalav.

BTW- I play Talbot Flynn in squad 1, the Crimson Kings in Pentor's Mercenary Game.

Character Concept - Well with the cast that has already applied, sure I may as well apply with a bit of muscle. I wish to play an Ulfen Barbarian by the name of Olav the Grim. Olav is a grizzled and scarred veteran. He has one eye and only a mere handful of teeth. He is missing two toes and one testicle and will happily share this information with anybody and everybody.

AP - I too would vote for AoW if it is a choice. If not... Carrion Crown.

Pentor Credentials - Private Jax Fury - Squad Two - Iron Carnival.

Hey,

Sent you my character sheet last night. Playing a halfling rogue by the name of Kahde Underbaugh. I got a big focus on DD. Boon and all traits are listed on sheet.

Also... AoW or CC are good for me too.

Hot damn, you're running a game? Woot. I want in, especially since some of our Merc buddies are here too.

Thinking either a Winter Witch or a Tiefling Sorc who focuses on his bloodline. Probably the Tiefling. Rise of the Runelords would be awesome, but id play anything.

In case you don't know I'm your dueling buddy Blaze lol

Damn, six players in one night. Ok then, I think I can run all of you. It seems most votes for Carrion Crown, since I'm already running that and have experience I can do that. Go ahead and gimme an info dump with your characters, backgrounds, and, if you have a preference, DM boon, though I promise no one anything. I would like at least two story hooks I can follow up on in your background. All right then, players go!!

Will work on somthing tonite. Those of us from the Merc game, do not forget to post there too!!

I'd be interested in playing with Xantrian Carver.

Basic background for this character is that he is a highly trained chef who is foul-tempered in the kitchen, but generous to a fault with impoverished children. He developed a knack for throwing knives while in the kitchen to scare people who displeased him. He never hit anybody - his aim was far too good for that. Xantrian developed a fondness for throwing weapons, however, and has taken it to the extreme by throwing any weapon he can get his hands on.

I have some more background thoughts, but not fully fleshed out yet. He spent some time with a Varisian entertainer's group, learning their cuisine.

I'd be up for just about any AP except Carrion Crown (currently playing) and Rise of the Runelords (currently DMing).

Heh...I was going to only play if you did AoW or SS...but the ability to say "I'm playing in two Carrion Crown campaigns and GMing one of my own." is too much for me to turn away from.

So we have a pair of rogues, one halfling one varissian, Olav the i-smash-it (speaking of which, I think I've seen this guy working out in the oil fields where I live...), and an arcane caster of some sort, likely a tiefling?

I'll likely run the drunken gentleman alchimest then. Something along the lines of Johny Dep in From Hell. Lots of knowledge skills, absinthe, and furrowed brows.

Can you give me an idea of what might constitute a boon? I was kinda thinking the ability to cast shilleglha a few times per day, so his walking cane could become a legitamit weapon...but then I saw something about things advancing as we level...so maybe a walking cane that is a suprisingly good weapon, that gets better through time? Sorta like a black blade?

I'll get an alias up soon.

EDIT
On second thought, unless there's strong objections, I'm going to run him as a summoner. I'm playing an alchimest in another game, and been dying to play a summoner.

No objection here. I love summoners, though if he's a synthesist we'll have to talk since the rules are fuzzy on them. Carver is in.... love tje concept. And yes, the boon will be a bit like a black blade, though less defined and more rp oriented

EDIT: BTW, make sure you have a campaign trait and we will begin with max gold for first level (first book is treasure lite till the end of it) Enjoy!

Damn, missed that you settled on Carrion Crown. I'll be bowing out, then, as I don't think I'd feel comfortable playing in two CC games at the same time.

Funny you should mention the synthesist, as that's what I'm hoping to play as. I've read enough to know I like the concept, but haven't gone over the nuts and bolts real well yet. More than happy to discuss anything specific that needs discussing.

Here's what I have of the alias so far, to give you an idea of where I'm going with it. If you're not cool with the extremes on attributes I understand, and can make them something less min/maxy. Like I said, going for something of a lush, who's more than a little absent minded, so I figured a low wisdom was warranted, then figured his health wasn't likely to be very good, so con and str took hits (especially knowing that when he's in the eidolon that will matter much less). Needed a metric ton of knowledge skills, so int needed to be high, as does charisma being the casting attribute...so just went with it as it made sense in my head.

Still deciding exactly how I want to theme the eidolon suit. I'll try to come up with something between chunks of homework today.

The Synthesist has a lot of things very nebulously defined. My interpretation, and the rules that will be following for it, are as follows:

Your feats will not change, meaning you will have to decide on just one set of feats.
Worn armor will not transfer over, being replaced by natural armor of the eidolon.
Your skills will have one set of ranks, their total bonus/penalty will change based on what form you are in, class skills will change as well (thus, in eidolon form you will not have as good a bonus on... say, knowledge skills, but a better bonus on eidolon class skills.) This represents that your mind is affected by being in the eidolon, making it more difficult to call on the training you may have had.
Items (other than armor) will apply to both forms.
You will gain penalties and suspicion in eidolon form, unless you disguise yourself. The more inhuman your eidolon, the more you may have to deal with prejudice while in eidolon form.

If anything else comes up we can decide on it.

Carrion Crown?

Well, it depends on the party, actually..

If we're short of ranged, Zen Archer
If we need a frontline assist, Sacred Mountain
If we is a quasi-healer and none dedicated, Healing Hand
If we need a damage assist (not likely), Vanilla or Weapon Master.

Definitely human, though, and I'm going to try to stay as far away from the "Whoaaaaaaaaaa! 'Kung-Fu' feel".

Is it ok if I use the alternate Tiefling traits found in Bastards of Erebus??

If so, I was thinking of being Rakshasa-spawned but with an Infernal Bloodline or Rakshasa-spawned and a Rakshasa Bloodline, if mixing two ancestors is too weird for ya.

If not, I'll just go normal Tiefling with the Infernal Bloodline. Gonna go and read the CC Player's Guide to get an idea of how to tie my character in.

Would you mind putting down or linking to the Rakshasa spawn? If it's a bit op then I won't allow, but I seem to remember those being ok. Might ask you to take infernal bastard from CoT. We'll see.

Rakshasa-spawn gain +2 Dex, +2 Cha and -2 Wis. I'm fine with Infernal Bastard, though I was going to ask if I could take a variant Tiefling ability instead of the Darkness SLA. Not sure which one, but I'll let you know.

In that case I ask you take the rakshasas bloodline, and you're fine without infernal bastard. As to the ability, just tell me which you pick, I'll have to decode from there.

Dark Archive

Hi, well I'm a interested in this game. I read your post in pentor's ooc and I play as Jaqen the silent monk.

I think you already have your fill of characters tho but thank you for the offer.

Kahde Underbaugh: Kahde grew up in a small halfling thorp with only his mother, seeing as his father passed away shortly before his birth. He is a merchant by trade, having been taught all the ins and outs by his grandfather from his father's side of the family. He is physically weak, but nimble and always did well with the tinkering of small gadgets and locks. He is also fairly decent with a bow. At the age of 17, his mother died mysteriously leaving him only a single silver ring. Though she never explained why...

Will post as alias soon.

EDIT: Here's the three traits and boon

Courageous Trait: +2 vs. Fear
Deft Dodger Trait: +1 on Reflex
Reactionary Trait: +2 to Initiative Checks

DM Boon: Silver ring left by mother.

All traits were taken from the APG.

Hey,

Here's my alias (Schaddo Darkwall). Let me know where we'll play (what room, link if possible.) Thanks!

Only one problem, Kahde, One trait is supposed to be from the Carrion Crown Players Guide. I would advise Chance Savior, which gives a +2 to Initiative and ties you to the game.

Also: Bump? Where's everyone else. Get in the game guys, I wanna get it started. Make the characters, get stuff together. Get it done boys and girls.

Just curious, what roles do we have filled at the moment?? If I go the Rakshasa Bloodline, I'll build to be the party face. But if we need something different, I don't need to be Rakshasa blooded, though I will still go Sorc.

Edit: regardless of which bloodline I choose, I want my boon to be somehow tied to my bloodline and to somehow increase my connection to my ancestor and my heritage related abilities.

I'm trying to get caught up with school work, so a lot further behind getting the character done than I wanted to be. Got background up for what that's worth. I'll try to get something up tonight, and if not, as much as I really want to play in this, it might be best to give my slot to someone else. Don't want to be the guy everyone's always waiting on...

Looks like we have so far:

1 smashing barbarian
2 skill rogues. One focusing on comvat steal
1 summoner. Not sure the focus
And MG, a sorc. Also not focused yet.

Deiros: tell you what, this ap, especially the furst bit, is hard as hell without a cleric or paladin, so if you were to play one of thoae I'd let you be number 6

Ahh, completely forgot you memori, you of course don't have to back out unless you would like to.

No thanks.. The player count is six. That's the hardline for me. I'll back out and let the opportunity go to someone else.

Ah, gotcha... Sorry. I will replace Reactionary with Chance Savior then, seeing as they're the same bonus. Plus having a +10 to initiative is *always* amazing! Also... sent you my character sheet ready to go. Let me know if it needs changing. Also made a mistake. I set my alignment to LG, but it's definitely supposed to be CG. Soz for that one.

Looks like you're ready to go kahde. Mechanical benefit of your boon so far: This silver puzzle ring seems simple, but you haven't seemed to open it yet. Still, the small lens you have popped out of it seems to work handily. It gives a +2 bonus on appraise checks abd adds an odd aura to certain objects while you look through it.

Going to try and make him ranged and buff, with some back up melee ability. That and he'll likely be the knowledge guy.

Copy, copy. I'll note that on the chac sheet.

EDIT: Question, do you want this take up a ring slot or is it considered mundane?

Mundane for now, may chamge as you discover more

Cool, thanks!

All right, 2 rogues ready to go, 1 summoner under construction, MG's Sorc under construction, and I haven't heard back from Darkestheart since he first expressed interest, so another day or so and I'll consider his slot open. We also have one more slot, but only for a cleric or paladin.

The cleric or paladin thing may seem a bit "DM Fiat". That's cuz it is. We played this in my IRL game and the paladin was the only thing saving our ass. Thanks to the haunt rules the first dungeon of this ends up being a player eating monstrosity without one. I'd rather have one in the party, but will deal if I only have to run through with the five of you.

Ok, just a status update. Going to bed now, see you all in the morning.

I can play a Cleric or Paladin if you want. Don't matter which one, seeing as they're both fun to play and we have another rogue. I'll go ahead and switch. You tell me which you want me to be and that'll determine my race.

I don't much care which. The issue is being able to channel positive energy to damage haunts. Both classes can do so, so feel free to pick either.

I'm going to give up my slot, as time is just too much of an issue. Sorry guys.

Well damn... that leaves me currently with two players I've heard back from. Kahde is in, as is Monkeygod. Anyone else, I'd like to hear from you if you're still planning on playing. I also may restart the recruitment thread since we seem to have no one new popping in here.

Darkestheart is in two games with me, let me see I can remind him to pop back here. He's a good player, but his posting rate isn't that great tho that may be due to RL.

Me'mori should also be easy to get ahold of as he's still in Crimson Kings.

..not to mention that I'm checking in now and agein.. If your count is at two, then I'll offer up..

Ama Freewater:

Traits: Chance Savior, Reactionary
The gods know that Ustalav is not the brightest of places, its people growing there like tough weeds. For many, they look to leave.. For many do not. The shadow of the Whisperer still looms over the region, and all under it can feel it. In Ama's case, a last name like his was what compelled him to depart from under that shadow. He grew up a workhand, doing whatever work was offered, be it carpentry, stabling, farming, and other odd jobs. Riding with caravans brought stories of the lands outside the darkened borders, tavern work let him meet the individuals that the caravans did not bring in.

It was the late professor that sparked his desire to learn, showing him that the way things were done were not always the way to accomplish them. He took that lesson to heart, and was bettered by it. So the summons to bring him back to Ustalav is something that he disliked, having been near the border, nearer to escape, but to not come and pay his respects was something that he could not do and still remain true to his ideals.

I like the idea Memori, however, Reactionary and Chance Savior won't stack. You could take them both, but there would be little point. Also, I've allowed three traits. Still, good to see you're still on board, and I for one am glad to see you.

Please don't stab me, but I've had a total 180 in regards to concept: instead of being a Tiefling with some sort of outsider bloodline, I'm gonna go with a Human or Half-Elf with the Destined bloodline and play up being a Varisian gypsy. Might even go Harrower from Inner Sea World Guide at some point.

Hope this is ok, the original idea is just a bit too close to a character I'm playing in a different game and I wasn't nearly as pumped to play that as I am this new concept. The only minor dowside is the Destined lvl 1 ability isn't that great, but oh well.

I also wish not to be stabbed! I haven't had a chance to make my character sheet for you yet, but here's the concept:

Domli Forgearm is a Dwarven Cleric. He was raised in the temple with his father, Balir Goldaxe. As Domli grew older, his father told me fantastic tales of adventure. Wonderful stories of climbing deep into mountains, or far into dense forests filled with unspeakable evil. He told how he was able to bring his friends back from the dead using the faith that God provided. Domli wants this. His heart burns for adventure. Domli sets out for a life of faith and devotion in the wilderness.

Hm.. Didn't know they didn't stack.. *shrug* My fault. Let's go for Chance Savior, Courageous, and Skeptic then. I'll keep the monk package I'm going to choose on hold until the group is finalized, and see where we are.

Sorry, been busy with RL issues. Still here and dedicated. My Varisian Rogue Cutpurse is ready to play, although I haven't yet wrote her background or description. I also chose Chance Savior (seems popular) as my AP trait and for my DM Boon I created "Deft Thievery". Let me know if any changes are warranted.
