Summoning Elder things...

Rules Questions

The Synthesist I have been working on has a "Dark Tapestry" theme, and is basically meant to be something of an Alienist.....however.....

It's been pointed out to me that creatures from the Dark Tapestry are Aberations, not outsiders (which rules out planer binding spells) or extradimensional (which rules out summon monster spells).

Any ideas as to how I can retain the theme I'm going for, and still stay within the cosmology lines that have been drawn ?

Fluff. Don't just summon a fiendish wolf, give some nice curtains to go with the Tapestry.

Unearthed Arcana(a 3.5 book) has ways to create individualized summoning lists, so you may get your DT creature that way with DM approval.

In other words.....I'm overthinking the whole thing ;)

i'm not sure that you WANT to summon sanity blasting amoral Things Mankind Was Not Meant To Know.

you should take up demonology or necromancy - they're safer.

Well, if Mr. Quick's statement about sanity blasting is any indication, merely thinking about summoning them caused you to go insane enough that you did not realize your were over thinking it.

But what do I know about insanity? I'm just a lichling. ;)

If you have access to 3.5 rulebooks and no need for PFS compatibility look for pseudonatural template - it appeared in Complete Arcane and somewhere else* and was intended as celestial/fiendish equivalent for creatures corrupted by Far Realm and was of similar power level and thus could be easily applied to summon monster spells and spell-like abilities without much problems. It should be tweaked a bit from the 3.5 version, however - it turned subject into Outsider while in PF it should turn into Aberration (when keeping in line with many other lovercraftian entities).

*Epic Handbook had same name template with epic adjustments to stats and slightly different abilities and should not be used

I have to admit, I kinda liked the alienist prestige class.

I actually took a look at the pseudonatural template, I was thinking it might work...although I may tweak the type change and adjust the resistances to fall in line with PF examples of creatures from the Dark Tapestry.
