Mahajanapadas

Advice

Dark Archive

I'm planning on running a kingmaker-esk set in Vudra, with the players running a mahajanapada one of them being a rajah. Now I have no idea how to do so and I need advice on how to run this, especially what I need to look out for, for both the rules of kingdom making and for playing the game set in Vudra. Also how important will maps be?

There is not a mountain of information out on Vudra, so I recommend doing some research on Indian myth and legend in order to mine for ideas.

The Kingdom Building rules are good, and fun to work with but honestly work best between games because they eat up time that could be spent killing monsters or mapping Ganges.

Maps are of utmost importance, but because Vudra hasn't been heavily mapped I just recommend making your own. Heavy on the rivers, jungles, swamps and mountains. (Actually the Kingmaker maps would work fine if you reflavoured them a little).

The Exchange

Ride elephants and fight raksashas.

Actually Dudemeister is right, Indian mythology is very interesting and not something most players will know about, so a little research could give you something truly awesome.

anything else?

Couple ideas off the top of my head:

--The second son of a raja wants to claim some no-man's-land for himself and build his own mahajanapada. The PCs are sent to help (perhaps as servants). Unfortunately, the prince gets bumped off along the way and the PCs find themselves in a position to claim the territory. They have to battle the jungle and the natives to get it.
--The raja banishes the PCs from his mahajanapada because of a crime one of them committed (looking at one of his wives wrong, stealing cattle, etc.), and they have to prove themselves worthy before they can come back. Cue wilderness exploration, questing, and jumping through hoops until the guy decides they can come back.
--The PCs are going to rescue a princess trapped an enchanted castle, which is guarded by a poisonous many-headed snake monster.

Hope at least one of these sparks an idea!
