I was looking at the Starsoul & Void-touched bloodlines for my Synthesist to take via the Eldritch heritage feats, and noticed that the associated bloodline is KN: Nature ???

Doesn't KN:Planes make more sense ??? I mean, the Elder things are outsiders after all. What am I missing ?

Actually lovercraftian nightmares with some exceptions not only aren't Outsiders but Aberrations but even aren't extraplanar entities - lovercraftian nightmares are related to the Dark Tapestry, aka depths of interstellar space which is part of Material plane.

Apparently Knowledge [nature] is resonsible for astronomy, which would be the most appopriate skill. On the other hand aberration lore is covered by Knowledge [dungeoneering]... Which clashes a little with bloodlines drawing their power from stars and space. Regardless Knowledge [planes] isn't related to most things Lovercraftian, maybe except for Yog-Sothoth and Hounds of Tindalos (from the better known examples). If you would look into thread about lovercraftian entities on Golarion you would notice that actual planar lore has problem dealing with Great Old Ones and their kin.

Good point....I hadn't considered that "space" is still part of the material plane. It also occures to me know that since there is no actual write up of the Elder things....I somehow jumped to the assumption that they are outsiders.

Kn: Nature does list "cycles" which certainly fit's the whole "when the stars are right" shtick.....

It looks like I will be spending a lot of skill points on a variety of KN skills (Arcane, Dungeoneering, Nature, Planes) to keep my basis covered.

Many thanks for the insight mate ;)

I am not sure about Elder Things themselves (as oposed to term "elder things" used as generic reference to lovercraftian entities) but I think they aren't extraplanar, either.

Yes, geting enough skill points may be problematic when you want to get all the required knowledges and not shot down your other useful skills - if you are creating Summoner you might consider Skilled evolution or two, especially once you will be able to get evolutions directly for yourself.

And your initial assumption would be correct in WotC 3.5/4th edition where lovercraftian nightmares come from Far Realm - outer reality beyond the planes but still falling under (barely) Knowledge: Planes (but aberrations were already under dungeoneering). It's specific change to cosmology in generic pathfinder/golarion that Great Old Ones are mostly native to material plane. On the other hand PF/Golarion is drawing much more upon Cthulhu Mythos than older iterations of D&D, even considering Cthulhu Mythos bestiary addendum from the early times of D&D.

I think the 3.5 Far realms is what has set some of my assumptions in place......
