Elemental Hands

Rules Questions

I've got a simple question for the forums.

Can elementals use weapons? I'm not asking if they're proficient with them--that's answered by the type/subtype rules in the back of the Bestiary. But assuming that one was (via class levels, or via actually being an adventurer with Elemental Form I up, etc)... can they use weapons?

The art and fluff seems to indicate that they have /hands/ at the very least, so it seems possible, but are there any rules saying either way?

I cannot find any entry or rule saying otherwise, in order to use a weapon you need limbs with oppose-able thumbs (considering humanoid-made weapons) F.E. a fire elemental can literally appear as a humanoid or a serpent, a water elemental could appear as an ooze-like mass of water etc.

IMO Yes an elemental can use a weapon if the weapon can withstand the nature of the Elemental (wooden spear held by Fire Elemental = "FAIL" f.e.)

In any case this could lead to a possible additional rule or a subtype in the future.

There's a lot about elementals that is left ill-defined by the RAW; most of which requires GM adjudication. Since outsiders are listed as being proficient with weapons I'd keep it simple and say that yes, any elemental can wield weapons.

And I don't believe that there's anything in the rules stating that wielding weapons strictly requires limbs or thumbs. An air elemental in whirlwind form for instance can pick up a great number of creatures without having limbs of any sort. I'd imagine that it'd wield a sword in much the same way; by enveloping it in its essence and whirling it about. It'd make for an altogether different and dynamic fighting style.
