Qinggong Monk and Arcane Strike

Rules Questions

The Exchange

I'm looking at creating a Qinggong monk NPC and was wondering I swap out Slow Fall for the Barkskin Ki Power at level 4 does it meet Arcane Strike's prerequisite of 'Ability to cast arcane spells'?

the monks powers Su not spells and not labeled arcane or divine.

Grand Lodge

Just as the rogue cannot use Minor Magic to qualify for Arcane Strike, the monk cannot. Arcane Strike requires arcane spells, not spell-like abilities or supernatural abilities.

The Exchange

Well, the Qinggong Monk's spells are Spell-like-abilities.

I was wondering whether since Barkskin was on an arcane spell list if it was considered as qualifying. Perhaps not.

So you can have spell like abilities that are neither arcane or divine. Interesting.

oh weird I thought they were Su. it makes me wonder if the qigong monk qualifies for item crafting then since he ends up with a caster level.

Silver Crusade

I don't think Arcane Strike is really needed with a monk when you are already starving for swift actions.

Spell-like abilities are never considered 'arcane' or 'divine'.

Spell like abilities are not the same thing as a caster level. They don't cast spells, they use spell like abilities that resemble spells. Hence they don't get a caster level.
