Hungry Ghost Monk and Summoned Animals

Rules Questions

Is there anything from keeping the following from happening, other than GM fiat and well behaved players?

Hungry Ghost Monk level 5 (or level 7) says to the Party Druid, "Hey, I need a recharge..." Druid casts "Summon Nature's Ally I". Say, a bunch of gerbils.

Hungry Ghost Monk then goes and slaughters them to replenish Ki and hit points.

I'm talking about the steal ki and life siphon abilities at level 5 and level 7.

(I am assuming a Hungry Ghost Monk doesn't get to use those abilities and recharge himself by swatting mosquitoes.)

I'm trying to figure out a way to keep the "Take it from your enemies" schtick, which is cool, without turning Summon Nature's Ally into the greatest Spontaneous Healing Spell Evahr.

Perhaps limit it to siphoning only from creatures with an Intelligence score of greater than 4?

Dark Archive

its legit. Probably not RAI, but it is RAW.

If you put the 4 int requirement, then people will just use summon monster or something. It won't change anything.

You're best bet would be to rule summoned creatures can't recharge ki, but that's rather harsh on the monk.

Monks need all the help they can get

well first how much do you heal? because I'm guessing having him cast cure light wounds is a larger healing. second the Druid hast to use lvl 1 spells.

this is also questionably q cast of the Druid becoming an Ex Druid but that would depend on the dm

The standard SNA / SM I summons one creature, is a level 1 spell, and heals the monk for his HD (five or seven in this case). A cure light wounds cast from a druid of the same level heals 9.5 hp (1d8+5) and is also an level 1 spell.

Using SNA/SM II heals the monk for twice his hd (10 or 14, 1d3 lvl 1 monsters * monk hd) and cure moderate wounds heals for 14 or 16, thus they are still ahead.

However if one would use the new UM spell Summon Minor Monster you would get ahead CLM. Also, the summon spells can restore Ki points. All in all, this don't look very overpowerd to me, and besides, a chicken is just a few copperpieces ; )

If the hungry ghost is going to be a really exploiting cheese-bag, he is going to pick up a whip.
A whip does not deal any damage to people with armor, so he can go ahead and spank his buddies all day, until those crits is going to grant him full hp/ki/temp hp.

And the role playing ramifications are really amusing, too!
