It should of course be noted that as prototype boxes some minor details could change in the final production run. Although I suspect they've got it fairly dialed in and were just waiting for the final book layouts before putting it into production. Has this been sent to the printer yet?

I like the standee pawns alot! Very easy to make your own and snap into the bases.
Is it just me, or does the layout in the books seem reminiscent of 4e's stuff? Particularly the sidebar in the bottom right hand corner of the picture with the fading color background.
Also is anyone else wondering why the heck the side of the box says "Key Largo" ?

key largo looks to be an add, seems there is on on the other side as well.
As to the lay out, while it is 4e like {looks far more like M&M 1e to me), many publishers seem to use something like that, the bright red brakes up the sections nicly while being eye catching and the letting in the yellow circles is I am guessing to let new players know what is in that section.

Folks,
This is a photo of a mock-up of the Beginner Box. As such some of the details are not quite correct. The dice, for example, are the wrong color, and the box says Key Largo on the bottom because the mock-up we've been using in meetings with buyers and distributors is built off a Save Doctor Lucky box, which has the same dimensions as the Beginner Box.
Many, many, many more details will be revealed at the PaizoCon Preview Banquet this weekend, where (almost) all questions will be answered and tons more will be revealed.
Until then, we're going to hold our radio silence on this photo and the full contents of the box.
All will soon be revealed!

Yeah, I kind of got sick of pogs in 1996, so I wanted us to go with an option that works better with 3D miniatures.
I recall My citytech boxset having standup like that. Cardboard with plastic stands. They worked great.
Heck I'll tell ya right now if they look like the ones in that pic I would buy em stand alone.

Funny how everyone's commenting on the standing pawns (pretty cool btw), when my eyes went straight to the character sheet.
Looks like fighters will have some feats selected for them to simplify the process, which would include Power Attack. Pretty interesting to see that - the feats chart when I started out playing PFRPG was definitely a big daunting THING when I tried to jump in.
EDIT: Or maybe they're handwritten in? The picture's a little fuzzy...

Yeah, that was my thoughts as well, and that is a good thing IMHO as one thing I was really impressed with in 4e was the layout.
Also paper minis are great, I have a load printed from PDFs for fantasy, modern, sci fi and super heroes; the fact that they stand up makes them much easier to pick up and move than flat disks.

I think those aren't sheets but instructions on how to make a pc and fill said sheet out. Notice the bright Letters on each section with a sidebar matching the same letter.
Of coarse they could be pregens with explanations on what everything is as well.

I got the impression that they were well-explained pre-gens, geared towards a player with no experience so they would have a decent chance or playing 85% of the game without consulting a rulebook.

Blue dice? But my dice are color-coded! I demand the dice are colored as such:
d4=black
d6=red
d8=orange
d10=green
d100=purple
d12=yellow
d20=blue
All kidding aside, I play a lot of games with beginners/casual gamers/some-will-never-learners. It's a lot easier for them when you say roll the yellow die. Really. It is.
Other than that, two thumbs up.

The problem is you've got to pour a different color of plastic into a different mold every time you switch colors, which exponentially raises the cost of the dice, which ends up adding about 4 bucks to the price of the box.
So yeah, that would have been awesome, but we decided to spend that money elsewhere by adding more value to the box in general.

I concur with the pregens thing. Looks somewhat similar to the pregen sheets that came with the 3.x basic set, but with a lot more explanation.

That doesn't make sense to me. Really, 4 bucks?
I'd image you'd just order the color you want, and oh right... Never mind.
I'm guessing each mold creates at least one complete set. To do multiple colors, and keep economy of scale you'd need to order X times as many to keep the same price point. Where X = number of colors you want to do. Not counting the overhead of them sorting the colors.

Pretty much spot on.

Would you not be able to get $4 for X-1 (7 colours in the example, so 6) full sets of dice of assorted colours by selling the surplus ones via the website? Then you could colour-code the dice and not be out of pocket.

For craps sake, the pictures are on Farce-book?! Any chance of putting them somewhere that those of us who choose not to be mind controlled by the Illuminati could access them?

That isn't our photo on Facebook. It is the photo a retailer took at BEA. We will be revealing all at PaizoCon this weekend and early next week, I expect a LOT more info to be posted here. We've just been ninja'ed a bit by this photo. :)

I got that, I actually only look stupid. Seriously.
But I just felt all left out on the ninja-ing front...
Anyway that aside well done Paizo. Just what the hobby needed, like cocaine, best get the under 10's hooked so you have an on going market. I know that worked on me by a company called TSR... Memories...
Of course I would now have a Ferreri rather than a shed full of RPG's if it wasn't for TSR and the effect (or is it affect) of their papery drugs on a child during his developing years.
Thumb's up to you guys,
S.
