Does the Soundstriker archetype make the Archer Bard obsolete at midlevels?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Since there is no language or even hint that you can't use all of the words of Weird Words against one target, it seems like this would quickly out do anything the archer can do. When you get it, you can do 6d8+(7*mCha) all against touch AC. And once you can use performances as a move action, you can drop inspire courage, use this, then restart IC in the same round.

Are you sure this is intended to allow more than one attack per target?

Fairly. It doesnt have the text that call lightning has with regards to one bolt per target. It seems powerful, but suggestion is too. If it was meant to be one word per target, I think that it'd be too weak for someone who is supposed to fight with sound.

edit: Sorry, Lightning Lord, the 8th level ability of the Weather Domain.

Scarab Sages

I saw a thread about that before. I think, RAI, it's supposed to only be one word per target, one word per level. The only problem is that that's SERIOUSLY weak. 1d6+Cha. Mod.? With a fort save for 1/2? Even rocking a 30 charisma you'll be doing 5-11 damage to a single target if they make the save, 11-16 if they don't. That's horribly weak XD

On the other hand, doing 1 sound per level all to one target is almost too powerful. It blows any blaster caster out of the water. Most of the attack rolls are gonna hit because you've got Medium BAB and they're ranged touch attacks, and even if the fort saves are successful, you're looking at (1d6+Charisma Modifier)xLevel/2, or, at about 6th level with 18 Charisma:

6d8+24/x2 (because ranged touch attacks can crit) [~45 damage on average, less if you make a save].

At level 6, the fighter is probably making melee attacks that deal about 2d6+11, 19-20/x2 per attack, of which he only gets 2, and only as part of a full attack. Well, not including Power Attack.

Actually, given the fort save for 1/2 on every blast, the damage is reduced by enough to keep it in line with the other damage dealers, I think. Cool.

That's the thing, it's super weak otherwise. Being able to send them all against one guy, or split 5 between two guys, makes it extremely versatile. But also very dice intensive. You're looking at rolling upwards to 20 dice, and the DM is rolling 10.

Actually, that is my concern with the ability - I don't consider it too bad or too good in either interpretations.
