Magus Spellstrike question

Rules Questions

If a magus uses a spell to create a weaponlike effect, such as shadow weapon or flame blade, can he use his spellstrike ability to channel spells through it? I know it's probably not the most efficient option, but I'm curious anyway.

Shadow weapon almost certainly works with Spellstrike, as it specificially works as melee weapon. Not sure about flame blade. It is wielded as scimitar but otherwise is described as blade-like beam not as weapon and is immaterial. It'd a GM call to decided for the latter if it will work or not.

Necro because I had the same question as the thread starter and I didn't see any other threads related to this question when I searched for it.

Let's see:

Spellstrike wrote:
At 2nd level, whenever a magus casts a spell with a range of “touch” from the magus spell list, he can deliver the spell through any weapon he is wielding as part of a melee attack. Instead of the free melee touch attack normally allowed to deliver the spell, a magus can make one free melee attack with his weapon (at his highest base attack bonus) as part of casting this spell. If successful, this melee attack deals its normal damage as well as the effects of the spell.
Shadow Weapon wrote:
You may use this weapon to make attacks as if it were a real weapon, dealing normal damage for a weapon of its type.
Flame Blade wrote:

I don't see why not.

Just be sure to cast your weapon-producing spell before you cast your touch spell. :)

Oh, wow. That is good stuff right there.

Doesn't seem all that "wow" to me. I mean, being able to go against touch with flame blade would be nice, if it weren't a druid-only spell...

Sczarni

Ah. Just read Shadow Weapon. Thought it was like a Wizard version of Flame Blade.

Jiggy, UMD is your friend. Assuming Wisdom doesn't need to be emulated, as well. ;) As a second level spell, though, it will only last 3 minutes in PFS, only requires a 12 Wisdom, and a UMD check of 23 from a scroll, or only 20 if it is from a wand.

4,500 gp for a wand of it. Could be interesting, as long as you aren't playing a Blade Bound or Kensai Magus.

Silver Crusade

Throw in Pragmatic Activator (magic trait from Ultimate Campaign), and you don't even have to waste point buy points in Cha to be effective with UMD.

I think it is safe to expect table variations on flame blade. As tje text "You wield this blade-like beam as if it were a scimitar." Seem to suggest that it isent a weapon.
And at later levels SR is gonna be a problem if you use wands. If it is in a home game ask the GM if you can spend a Arcana to get it on the list.

Any item you make an iterative attack with is a weapon, even if improvised or an unarmed strike, so I'd say yes, you can use it with Flame Blade.
