Coming to PaizoCon? Try not to play these adventures

This is a provisional list of games that we are thinking of running at PaizoCon in July. It's published here to give you the chance to avoid playing these games before the event. The schedule may change before PaizoCon and we would like your input on golden oldie adventures that you may have missed.

2-21: The Dalsine Affair by Alex Greenshields
For 1st to 7th level characters (Tiers: 1-2, 3-4 and 6-7).

2-04: Shadows Fall on Absalom by Larry Wilhelm
For 7th to 11th level characters (Tiers: 7–8 and 10–11).

If we can get permission, we may run an slightly abridged version of the 3-part adventure Shades of Ice Parts I, II and III over two Slots
For 1st to 5th level characters (Tiers: 1-2 and 4-5).

VENTURE CAPTAIN'S SPECIAL
An exclusive adventure that can only be run only by 4-star GMs and Venture-Captains
2-EX: The Midnight Mauler by Crystal Frasier
For 1st to 7th level characters (Tiers: 1–2, 3–4, and 6–7).

AUTHOR/GM SPECIAL:
Here Be Goblins by Richard Pett
Goblins love fire but better still they love fireworks! A most unusual adventure for goblin characters.

2-13: The Throaty Mermaid by Mark Moreland
For 1st to 5th level characters (Tiers: 1-2 and 4-5).

AUTHOR/GM SPECIAL:
2-25: You Only Die Twice by Hyrum Savage
For 5th to 9th level characters (Tiers: 5-6 and 8-9).

2-26: The Mantis's Prey by Michael Kortes
For 7th to 11th level characters (Tiers: 7-8 and 10-11).

YEAR OF THE SHADOW LODGE SPECIAL
The Grand Melee
Uber-GM Hyrum Savage

2-23: Shadow's Last Stand—Part I: At Shadow's Door by Steven Robert
For 1st to 7th level characters (Tiers: 1-2, 3-4 and 6-7).

2-24: Shadow's Last Stand—Part II: Web of Corruption by Patrick Renie
For 1st to 7th level characters (Tiers: 1-2, 3-4 and 6-7).

We also hope to have a range of older scenarios running alongside these games (probably one table in each slot). We are thinking of "Delerium’s Tangle", "Voice in the void", "Frozen Fingers of Midnight", "Citadel of Flames", But what would YOU like?

If you didn't get a ticket, but you really want to attend, I would encourage you to put your name forward for possible cancellations. Even if you miss out this year, it sends us a message about how much additional interest there is around, and weighs into the considerations about if (and how much) to expand capacity in 2012...

Looks good!

I notice that the provisional scenario list is split by slot on the web site.

My personal wish list (assuming nothing changes):

Slot 1: 2-21: The Dalsine Affair / 2-EX: The Midnight Mauler
Slot 2: 2-EX: The Midnight Mauler / 2-13: The Throaty Mermaid
Slot 3: The Grand Melee
Slot 4: 2-23: Shadow's Last Stand—Part I: At Shadow's Door
Slot 5: 2-24: Shadow's Last Stand—Part II: Web of Corruption

5/5

My personal wish list (assuming nothing changes):

Slot 1: 2-04: Shadows Fall on Absalom though I expect David wants me to run 2-EX: The Midnight Mauler
Slot 2: 2-25: You Only Die Twice / 2-26: The Mantis's Prey
Slot 3: The Grand Melee (I assume I will be running rather than playing)
Slot 4: Hopefully a Tier 5-9 or 7-11 game (Shadow's Last Stand sounds good though)
Slot 5: Hopefully a Tier 5-9 or 7-11 game (Shadow's Last Stand still sounds good)

I would like to have a go at 2-EX: Year of the Shadow Lodge

We ran Year of the Shadow Lodge last year so won't be repeating that. Sorry. Current plan is to have everybody playing Shadow's Last Stand parts 1 and 2 on the Sunday (slots 4 and 5).

Grand Lodge 5/5 Regional Venture-Coordinator, Baltic

Her's my planning:

Slot 1 Shadows Fall on Absalom
Slot 2 You Only Die Twice
Slot 3 The Grand Melee (GMming)
Slot 4 Shadow's Last Stand—Part I: At Shadow's Door
Slot 5 Shadow's Last Stand—Part II: Web of Corruption

And then something in the unofficial slot 6 :-)

The only season 2 scenarios I've played so far are 'The Bloodcove Disguise' and 'Rescue at Azlant Ridge'. Are there any specific scenarios I should aim to play before 'Shadow's Last Stand' (i.e. in slots 1-3) to ensure that it makes sense?

The Heresy of Man 1-3, The Dalsine Affair and Shades of Ice 1-3.

Preferably in that order.

Well, PaizoCon UK will be my next opportunity to play PFS so I won't be able to fit all those in, but I'll certainly ensure I prioritise the Dalsine Affair on the Saturday - thanks.

Dalsine Affair and Midnight Mauler for me on Saturday I think.

Grand Lodge 5/5 ****

I signed up to GM 4 slots. As such I would like most to be in Hyrums game You only die twice.

I will try to bring my scenery with me if games are run where it can be used. I might be tempted to build up a temple of flames as the Blackros Museum has seen a few outings. But I GM whatever slots need me most.

So, what are the chances of Ultimate Combat being released to subscribers and the final version of the Gunslinger being available for PFS play before 16 July?

(Hypothetically of course; my only PFS PC at the moment is a cleric...)

Ideally I'd love to play 9and could probably put together a table for the games in S1 and 2)
Slot 1: Jesters Fraud
Slot 2: Fortunes Blight
Slot 3: The Grand Melee
Slot 4: 2-23: Shadow's Last Stand—Part I: At Shadow's Door
Slot 5: 2-24: Shadow's Last Stand—Part II: Web of Corruption

Does the same character have to play the melee and 2-23 and 2-24 ?

No, the Grand Melee is completely separate and a stand alone event.

Should that not be the Team America theme song?

The soundtrack from Prince of Persia is good for any Qadira or Osirion setting.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

March of the Toreadors from Bizet's Carmen for the Grand Melee.

The Troika from Prokofiev's Lieutenant Kijé for at least one of the Irrisen modules. (This is a piece of archetypal 'winter sleigh ride' music.)

Finlandia (or part thereof) by Sibelius for an Andoran theme. Given that Andoren players have apparently been doing quite well for their faction, globally, they can indulge in a bit of triumphalism...

Night of Revelry the second movement of Night of the Maya by Revueltas as a Taldor theme. (Perhaps I'm being too kind to Taldor here in suggesting that they're this fun-loving though... ;) )

On the basis that it's supposed to be about a sunrise over the Sahara Desert, Morning from Grieg's Peer Gynt might do for a Qadira or Osirion theme. (For something less formal there's a piece of pantomime music about being in the bazaar or marketplace, but I can't currently recall what it's called or who wrote it.)

Possibly the second waltz from Shostakovich's Jazz Suite No. 2 for a Cheliax theme. (This was music which they used in the Kubrick film Eyes Wide Shut.) It's a piece which seems to me cold, sophisticated, and almost mechanical.

Oh, and on a mischievous note, Queen's 'Hammer to Fall' as the theme for killer GMs. The line '...Lady Mercy won't be home tonight...' seems somehow appropriate. ;)

Liberty's Edge 4/5 5/55/5

There will certainly be an orchestral piece at the PaizoCon UK Balti Buffet but you'll have to be there to find out what it is...

Mars from the Planets Suite by Holst for Cheliax

'The Tale of the Kalendar Prince' from Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov for Quadira.

'Oh Fortuna' from 'Carmina Burana' for Taldor (or possibly the title music from 'The Lion in Winter')

'Appalachian Spring' for Andoran

'Rondo ala Turk' by Mozart for Osirion(alternativly..Raiders of the Lost Ark)

Silver Crusade 3/5

Is Shades of Ice confirmed?

Silver Crusade 3/5

Oh and Preliator by Globus should be the theme for the Grand Melee.

There will definitely be one table playing through a (condensed) version of all all three parts of Shades of Ice (Saturday slots 1 and 2).

I'm scheduled to play Shades 1-3 locally now, so is there any way to ensure I don't get signed up for them?

Rob was mentioning there might be an online sign up process at some point. Is that still on the cards?

Yes and Yes.

Now that you've posted that then I know to avoid putting you in that game. I am in the middle of assigning players to games and as part of that process I am looking to see which games people have played.
Once I've got a 'first draft' then I will be setting things up on Warhorn. In addition, if anybody has any requests then I can be contacted via paizoconuk@hotmail.com though I can't promise that all requests will be granted ;)

Cool, thanks. My characters will definitely be levels 7 and 2 for Paizocon. I need to chase some reporting, but I can use GM credit if it hasn't happened to ensure the 7 is definitely 7.

Hi Wintergreen

Not sure what Warhorn is so I'd appreciate an explanation after that goes live.
It would be good to see what tier I am DMing the two adventures so that I can prep suitable figures...

Is it me or is this thing getting closer?

Cheers

Very close French Wolf. Feels very close indeed.

I'll hopefully get that sorted during next week and will let you know what tier you'll be running. This weekend I'm running a slot 0 for the Sunday scenarios so will also be able to give some feedback to GMs on those.

See you soon!

Not quite sure what you mean by chasing the reporting. You should have chronicle sheets for the scenarios your characters have played.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

Yep, but they didn't have event names or event ids on the paperwork. It's all sorted now.

I'm buying Andrina some new equipment for the con scenarios but have a minor amount of confusion about something.

Iron, Cold: Weapons made of cold iron cost twice as much to make as their normal counterparts. Also, adding any magical enhancements to a cold iron weapon increases its price by 2,000 gp. This increase is applied the first time the item is enhanced, not once per ability added.

Now being the pedant that I am it does not specifically say that this is an additional cost(as a +1 enchantment increases the cost of a weapon by 2000GP)although that is the inference I am getting

So am I right in assuming that enchanting a cold iron weapon to +1 costs 4000GP?

The Exchange

Hi Snorter

Do you have any preference as to which of the four known goblin PCs you would like to play?

1) female fighter
2) rogue
3) cleric
4) alchemist

Richard - do you have a fifth PC written for us? The only reason I mention is that there are several extra goblin PCs on the paizo threads and we could just pick one of them if you prefer?

Cheers

The thread goblins are splendid, just bear in mind whoever you play you need to be able to sing in the correct scale...

So you want
a) goblins with an Azerbaijan accents
b) goblins can sing correctly too?

(Note to self/VC Wintergreen make sure I get the chance to GM Richard before or better still after this event....)

Okay I'll download some of the thread goblins and bring them along for our delectation and pleasure.

I know 2-25 is being run by Hyrum so it would be a shame to [potentially] miss it, but my local group have asked me to skip that game as we already have someone playing it elsewhere. Having excluded the three Shades mods and 2-25 is there enough left to fill my weekend? :-)

Thanks.

Sunday looks good, but I've already played Throaty. From the email I saw this morning that looks like I have the Dalsine Affair and the grand melee. Are there no 7-11s available on Saturday?

With regards to the grand melee, does that take a slot? What tiers is it likely to run at, and can I participate twice if I have two slots free? If I do that can I use the same character twice, or does it need to be different characters? Are there any rewards for playing it?

Thanks.

This page has some of the answers:

It's time to be tested by the Decemvirate. The stakes are high. Do you dare? Find five brave companions and step into the arena.

I'm just a mere player, but I would expect that normal rules apply regarding replay, and it only appears to be running in one slot anyway. In terms of rewards, this post suggests that PA & XP are awarded as normal (although there is some confusion about PA & XP in that thread).

The Exchange

Team: Thirty Silver Pieces
Players: Gnome crossbowman3, dwarf conjurer3, human rogue3

We just lost our human cleric4. Looking for some great players to bring some love to the team.

I've put you in The Dalsine Affair and The Midnight Mauler on the Saturday. (You don't have Throaty Mermaid reported as a game you've played and your booking form said your highest level character was 5th so you're not eligible to play in any 7-11 scenarios.)

Grand Melee is a one-off special event run on the Saturday evening. You enter a team of up to 6 players. There is a chronicle sheet for it. No you cannot play it twice or use the same character twice! (You know that you can never get credit more than once for playing don't you?)
