"Wizards who select a bonded object begin play with one at no cost. Objects that are the subject of an arcane bond must fall into one of the following categories: amulet, ring, staff, wand, or weapon. These objects are always masterwork quality. Weapons acquired at 1st level are not made of any special material. If the object is an amulet or ring, it must be worn to have effect, while staves, wands, and weapons must be wielded. If a wizard attempts to cast a spell without his bonded object worn or in hand, he must make a concentration check or lose the spell. The DC for this check is equal to 20 + the spell's level. If the object is a ring or amulet, it occupies the ring or neck slot accordingly."
As an arcane sorcerer I am planning on building I am wondering on the wording of this. Especially the part that says "at no cost" and how that interacts with a wand. From how it reads it sounds like I can choose to take any wand at full charges at level 1 for free as long as I choose that to be my bonded object.
This cant possibly be right, does someone care to shed some light on this?

If it doesn't (And never did) contain spells then what makes it a wand then? This is what the PRD, Core, and pretty much every source says about what a wand IS.
"A wand is a thin baton that contains a single spell of 4th level or lower. A wand has 50 charges when created—each charge allows the use of the wand's spell one time. A wand that runs out of charges is just a stick. The price of a wand is equal to the level of the spell × the creator's caster level × 750 gp. If the wand has a material component cost, it is added to the base price and cost to create once for each charge (50 × material component cost)."
Maybe arcane bond is better than we figured. At the very least this is a GREAT candidate for a FAQ clarification.

basically, an arcane bonded wand is just a stick you need to work your magic. thats it. its not the same as a magical wand you find in the back on the core book. reread the arcane bonded item segment carefully. its specifically states that you need this item to work magic, but it doesnt say that the wand is similar to magic item wands. otherwise it would say so. and that would be broken.
all in all, your arcane bonded wand = nice stick you need to work your magic.

The intent was not to hand out a free magic item at level 1. If that were the case a wand would almost always be chosen.
As to your quote I can do the same thing with the staff.
A staff is a long shaft that stores several spells. Unlike wands, which can contain a wide variety of spells, each staff is of a certain kind and holds specific spells. A staff has 10 charges when created.
That does not mean staffs are magical at level 1.
Fnipernackle explained it pretty well.

So it is more along the lines of the Harry Potter verse casting requirements then. I have been thinking about doing him as a wordcaster as well, that might mesh pretty well actually.
exactly. Until you enchant it, you can think of it like using the wand to channel your spells out of when you cast them.
