Hello Paizonians.
I was looking at the new summoner material in the PSRD and I was quite impressed with the master summoner, it looks very interesting.
So I was wondering, would you as a player, ever consider taking quicken spell-like ability? if so at what level? (minimum must be 10+ to make it work) or can you use metamagic rods instead?
Is there such a thing as extend spell-like ability? (If not, there should exist one imo).

There is no extend SLA.

I have a pair of summoner villains that I will be using in upcoming adventures. One of them took the Quickened SLA feat; the other didn't. It sort of depended on the character. Now that there are some nifty summoner archetypes out, I am going to further specialize them from each other. I'm going to focus one on the summoning SLA while the other is going to focus on the eidolon.
The summoning already lasts for minutes per level, so no need to extend it. How we've agreed to rule it is that, since the SLA progressively improves and isn't 10 distinct SLAs, the same feat applies to all versions. So, I took it for my villain as soon as possible (level 11).

The problem is that quicken spell-like ability at lv 11 can only quicken a summon monster I.... not much use out of a summon monster I, it does get more useful later on, when you can quicken SM III+
Most quicken spells are used to get a quick buff in without costing you a standard action. They are not mean to instantly bring you backup.
Example:
<PC's break into the room>
Caster: Quickened mirror image, followed by all other actions.
