Scorpion (Ultimate Magic)

Master gains a +2 bonus on initiative rolls.

****************

compsognathus familiar (Bestiary 2)

These dinosaurs can serve spellcasters as a familiar. A compsognathus familiar grants its master a +4 bonus on Initiative checks.

****************

One of these two seems to be off...

Curious if I can get a developer to look into this and see if this was intended

I hit the FAQ button, but i think that the bestiary entry is wrong.

Also hit FAQ. Don't wanna see the return of the hummingbird...

The bonuses a familiar gains should basically be equal to that granted by a feat. Thus, a +3 bonus to a skill (like Skill Focus) or a +2 bonus on a save (like Iron Will or the like).

Improved Initiative grants a +4 bonus on initiative, so my take is that should be what a familiar grants.

Whether or not the scorpion should be errated up to +4 or not is up to the designers, but I'll note that having it grant a +2 bonus instead of a +4 bonus isn't necessarily "wrong." It might just be that it's just not as good a choice as a compsognathus.

(Personally, I'd errata the scorpion's initiative mod up to +4 and be done with it.)
