What use is Multiattack for my animal companion?

Rules Questions

For many animal companions - those that have 3 (or more) primary natural weapons and no secondary natural weapons - this appears to be totally useless. This includes the popular deinonychus, lion, woverine, bear, tiger, eagle, and numerous others. After a quick look, I believe that only the horse has secondary natural weapons.

Now if I only have 1 or 2 natural weapons - like an elephant/mastodon - I do get some benefit in getting to opt out for a second attack (at -5) from one of my natural weapons. At least that's something.

So, is this the intent of the ability - that only the horse really gets to use the 'base effect' and the alternate ability is going to come up far more often? Is it also intended that many animal companions won't qualify for either?
