The theologian is super specialized in one domain. The character only gets to pick one domain, but all of the effects (powers and spells) are considered two levels higher. Further, their domain spell list can be prepared with their normal spell slots, so they could possibly just have a slew of spells just from that one domain list.
At 5th level (and every 5 levels after) the character can pick one spell and have a permanent metamagic feat applied to it.
This seems more useful for NPC usage, but I'm sure someone can cook up something interesting by just focusing on a specific domain.

I'm not 100% sure what you mean by 'permanent metatamagic feat' but I'm guessing you mean without the normal spell level. If so Reach Spell seems like a good option. At 5th if you picked Cure Serious Wounds (and had chosen the healing domain) you would heal for 3d8+7 at close range. That ain't bad.
