I am (hopefully) attending my first PFS game this weekend, and wanted to ensure I could make a decent character before then. Reading over the Organized Play Guide, I see that evil alignments are forbidden, but the worship of evil deities is not, provided the cleric is within the one step to make him non-evil (Assuming we're playing a cleric).
As such, I've been asking about a few deities, such as my current question elsewhere about Minderhal, but I have a concept idea to throw out to you, before I commit anything to paper.
Basically, I would like to play a LN cleric of Zon-Kuthon, god of pain. As his domains include law, I considered factoring this into his personality, giving him a somewhat unique outtake on his faith.
For example, a religious mantra for him might be:
"It is the burden of the righteous to suffer"
Similarly, I thought it might work in conjunction with the Cheliax faction, with the LE government of the city producing many downtrodden, and thereby, many open ears and minds. He would see it as his duty to aid people in enduring and overcoming the pain of their situations, teaching that through pain comes wisdom, power, etc.
I understand this might not be easy to pull off in RP, but I'd like some opinions: Is this a good idea? Have any of you seen any similar characters?
((Please note, my intent with this is not to get away with being evil in a PFS campaign. If the character evolves into a clearly evil person, I will voluntarily cease to play him, in accordance with the rules. Instead, I wish to merely see how this might work out, and thereby create a darker type of hero.))
Let me know what you think. :)

There are a fair number of Neutral clerics of Evil deities being played in Pathfinder Society. I'm sure that you can find a few examples on this board with a search.
When roleplayed well, you are correct, it can be an interesting character. The kind of thing that you are describing has a lot of potential.
Be aware of a couple of possible issues. You may meet resistance from other players with this concept, and even GMs. And realize that in Society games, the time limit will sometimes preclude you from getting too in-depth on a character. You may have to justify your alignment sometimes.
Still, I like the way you seem to be building your character: personality ahead of mechanics. That is my preference too. :)
You might also look at being a native of Nidal, though working for Cheliax.

Having done so myself (Oracle of Rovagug), +1 to what Neil said.
The trap to avoid is to get all prissy when/if the rest of the party does not like your religion.
Also, do not try to blackmail the party into "healing for service". Where you do what I want and I heal you.
Other than that... Have fun! OH! Make sure people know you are not a positive channeler when you sit at a table. That is a BIG factor...

This goes for whenever you have an ability that could adverse to the party should you need to use it. Just courteous :)
(In the new Arcanis I would sit down with my Necromancer and warn every table that I could summon zombies but could not control them, hence they would attack the 'nearest living thing'. I then did not feel bad the only time I actually used the spell when the tricky roguey character got up next to one and became a snack.)

Thank you all for your support. Oh, and a quick related question: The deity specific spells, as well as the clerical spell preparations (Such as clerics of "deity" prepare this spell as...) Are those legal for PFS? I'd assume yes, but checking.
I'm referring to what I'm seeing in Gods and Magic, among other things.

Aside from the God's and some of the magic items in Gods and Magic, most of the other rules from that book are not allowed.
I've been playing a LN inquisitor of Achaekek (which would be a lot easier if they allowed any of the Red Mantis items in the campaign). His focus is on unsanctioned killing. He isn't of adequate power level yet, but the idea is, if someone assassinated a king or ruler, he'd be the guy they'd send to kill the assassin.

You have to check on the Resource Page... I know "Fury of Rovagug" is not allowed! :( Double-check.

You may wish to check The Inner Sea World Guide, as a number of diety spells and items from Gods and Magic are updated there, and most are PFS legal.
If it's good on here, it's good to go.
