Rob Liefield: Greatest Comicbook artist of all time!

Comics

Rob Liefeld had childhood dream to draw comic books. As a teenager, he fulfilled that dream and began working for Marvel Comics X-men titles and introducing the world to Deadpool, Cable and X-Force! In 1992 Rob launched Image Comics with the debt of the popular Youngblood franchise which has gone on to sell 70 million copies worldwide. Rob was asked by Marvel to re-imagine the classic Marvel heroes, Captain America and the Avengers for a new generation, which lead to the creation of the best selling Heroes Reborn universe. Rob was thrilled to join Phil Hotsenpiller in creating the Armageddon Now series.

I have included a link to his homepage below. Feel free to post and comment on the greatest comicbook artist of all time. Share the love for Rob Liefield!

Heya bub, I'm an "associate" for Don Gruff. The Billy Goat Gruff Family has long been a friend of bridges... be a shame if something unfortunate happened to yours, capisce?

Rob Liefeld's greatest hits http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/2009/07/liefeld-cant-wait-to-someday-u ndo-shatterstar-development/

“Shatterstar is akin to Maximus in Gladiator. He’s a warrior, a Spartan, and not a gay one.”

(Liefeld fails history)

When a forum member pointed out that other writers continued to flesh out the character after Liefeld left Marvel — some even dropped apparent clues about his sexuality and his relationship with Rictor — Liefeld responded: “Your opinion doesn’t change the fact that it sucks and it’s not a positive move in most fans’ eyes. And it’s all well and fine that you don’t respect a creator’s wishes or intent. I’m different like that.”
(Which is why Rahne suffered boob explosion, because he respects creators wishes, not anatomy)

(Scroll through the comments to see Rob dig himself deeper, and PAD just handing him shovels)

Classic Liefield. That said, I felt the Shatterstar was much more interesting as an asexual character, while I find Rictor much more interesting as a gay character.

I feel like I should post this here as well. Link

No disrespect intended to your thread Leafar, even Liefeld's fans have to think that this is funny. :-)

Really? I just rechecked it and they were all there. Maybe they were loading more slowly on your machine for some reason.

Maybe, or maybe Google Chrome just does not like them.

Edit: Okay, now all but #31 are working. That pic is definitely showing a broken url symbol though.

This has to be a joke thread right?

Grand Lodge

I'll be honest, I haven't taken Leafar seriously in quite awhile.

A joke? Have you seen his any of his web comics, like THE BEAST and ZOMBIE JESUS? How can you look at those and saw he is not the greatest comicbook artist OF ALL TIME!?!? My God, I wish he was still drawing the Captain America comic...

Liberty's Edge

Can you see what my hand is doing behind the barrel of this big ass gun drawn in front of my hand so a d%#*$*@ who couldn't draw hands wouldn't have to draw my hand?

Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know that a comicbook artist has to be realistic! Rob Liefield doesn't have to draw superheroes and supervillains realistically. If you want realism, then look at the pictures in a newspaper! This is a comicbook, people, not a Highschool yearbook!!!!

I would think that NOT seeing his art would make a page better....

Realistically? No.

Consistently? Yes.

He doesn't have to be realistic. He just has to not suck.

Or,.....well, I guess that rule never applied to Rob Liefield....

"I got an idea for a villain. He has four arms, right? And guess what his name is....FOREARM!!!

Pretty f#!&ing cool, huh? If the guy creating the villain is eleven...

Well, that's not entirely true. The first post I read of his was taken seriously. It was all the ones after that that were not.

Scarab Sages

Wow... this is the comic industry's 'edition wars' all over again. Blast from the past...

Rob isn't even great as an artist.

Kirby
Miller
Wong
Ross
McGuinness
Cho
Sale
Romita Jr.
Williams III
Linsner
Quitely
Lee
...are all better than Rob.

Liberty's Edge

BIZ.

What would you call a villain with four arms, FIVEARM? What other name would you pick? Please, give me a break. I bet you would have called SUPERMAN "OKAYMAN" or something that doesnt make sense. Rob Liefield has created great villains!

Silver Crusade

Art Adams, Massimiliano Frezzato, Bill Sienkiewicz, Barry Windsor-Smith, Amanda Connor, George Perez, and Jeff Smith are all ace.

They can also draw a foot.

Liberty's Edge

I remember in 6th grade when I finally learned how to draw a foot.

Liberty's Edge

Rob Liefeld was sad because Wendigo allready existed in the Marvel Universe, so he couldn't invent a supervillain without feet.....

Yeah, you're probably right.

I have seen Rob Liefield draw feet on many characters, so I don't get this unwarranted accusation of him not drawing feet. Again, its another baseless attack on Liefield, and all of you know it!!!

Come to think of it, I think it was PAD who wrote the scene where Jamie asked if he had a brother who could telekinetically flush toilets and was named 'four flusher' :)
