Svirfneblin racial traits

Rules Questions

Hi,

I am getting ready to start a campaign playing a svirfneblin monk. I would like to use the gnome ratial trait rapscallion to increase my init even further. I already took reactionary to get the +2. My DM is using hero labs and that claims that a svirfneblin is not a gnome for racial purposes. Even though in the bestiary it says they are gnomes and just have a greater connection with the ancestry than the gnomes do.

Who cares what the computer program says. Write it down on your character sheet. Or are you guys doing everything including updating characters on hero labs? Do you print out a new paper version every session? then update in on the computer and have it make all the appropriate changes?

If so, maybe i should buy the dang thing.

It wouldn't work anyways.

Both traits give a TRAIT bonus to your initiative check. Same bonuses do not stack.

The question is do Svirfneblin qualify for the Gnome traits? Yes, they are both humanoid (gnome), but that would mean that the duergar qualify for dwarven traits and drow qualify for elven traits.

So do they?

Actually they have deeper ties to their fey ancestry - which makes them less like surface gnomes. Which would be an argument against them taking gnome traits.

On a tangent - Hero Labs does undate everything when you add new feats - also works for running combat as you can applied conditions to the creatures (like charging/prone).

Thank you everyone for your answers.

Pendagast, it is an online session through skype. I hate the hell out of hero labs because I have found many errors in it and think it is not worth the 30 bucks.

BYC, I has not thought about the trait bonus's not being able to stack thank you.

Chavamana, I figured it would be an argument for because they are more true. I will have to dig out my books and read on fey ancestry thanks.
