Thirded? I think it's pretty poor planning on Paizo's part that they don't have mappacks, paper minis, deals with Reaper for "real" minis, flip mats/maps. Even the item cards just recently came out.
I'm sure there are great reasons for this, but I've been chopping up the PDFs to give to my players. While I guess I don't mind, I'd rather not have to bust out the Photoshop to use on these maps.
What I'm really saying here is sounds like lost earnings potential. I'd buy all of the above. But will I when they come out in 6+ months?

I don't think it is poor planning so much as needing to know demand before they spend a large amount of capital on producing certain products. They have to be able to sell off what thye produce and not have them sit in a warehouse for years due to people not buying them. I think they mentioned this before when there was a discussion about putting collections of paizo artwork out that I recall reading.

As it relates to the paper minis I don't believe that they are made by Paizo, Pathfinder Paper Minis has a license to make them, so they don't come out till after the AP is out, and they had time to draw all the minis. According to Vic Wertz in this thread from yesterday they just "completed a bit of rejiggering on this license and you'll be seeing several new releases soon!"

The best reason is that we don't actually make the minis, be they paper or metal. We've tried to have partners keep up with the pace of adventure paths to produce 3rd party minis (both paper and metal) AND to have neat 3D fold up maps of key areas... and it turns out that the breakneck pace of one huge adventure a month is not all that easy to keep up with.
Furthermore, for the products we DO produce in house, like item cards and flip mats and map packs, we try to have some of those "on theme" for adventure paths, but the more they're integrated into the AP, the more complicated things get. Adventure Paths are in the top 3 of "most complicated product to produce" here at Paizo—adding more complexity in the form of multiple map pack tie-ins isn't really in the best interest of the line.
So it's kinda the exact opposite of poor planning—it's actually the result of extensive planning and a fair amount of false starts and semi-disasters that keeps us from scrambling to orchestrate paper minis and the like for every AP as soon as they come out.

For those of you using screenshots to get images, I use SomePDF Image Extractor to grab pictures from the PDFs. I love the paper minis, but I also make my own flat tokens by printing out monsters and pasting them on card board from old boxes. It works rather well. I don't actually use photoshop either, Word or Open Office will crop and size the images to X" squares with a black border.

Why can't you just reprint the art work from the AP.
The Pathfinder Paper Minis line is more about giving artistically talented members of the community their own spin on our licensed material—while we could certainly release packs of re-used art, it's not something that we can fit into our production schedule right now. I want to give that opportunity to somebody who has the time, inclination, and talent to fill that need in the community.
Add to the fact that the art that currently exists does not scale down well to the scale needed for miniatures, and that it's fairly easy to pull the images from the PDF out and resize them yourself...I want to give people new art, rather than art they already have, and art that's detailed (but not too much) so that it looks nice on the tabletop.

Bump!
Update? I still have money burning a hole in my pocket that I'd like to fork over to some entrepreneurial artists and/or businessfolk. See? Here it is. Don't you want it?
I am currently waiting on some art samples from new artists
so I can put them to work in the mines.
Patience! I want these just as much as everybody else. :D

To at least voice in the other direction. Wasn't it kind of recommended that you avoid the whole mini scene in this adventure if possible? Fear is in the mind, not on you tabletop etc.?
You could certainly do that, but it does take a skilled GM to run a game using rules that are arguably reliant on the battlemap. Not saying it can't be done, I'm saying it's not for everybody.
Plus, there's the fun opportunity of being able to re-use minis outside of the Adventure Path. :D

I didn't start using a battlemap till about 4 years ago when one of my players came back from a pilgrimage to Gencon with one. We're all ooo and aaah, and hadn't stopped using one since. Now, I'm kind of wanting to not use one. Harrowstone has few "direct" combat scenes. So at least for this adventure I'll avoid it and flex my story teller muscle.
