PFRPG purchase questions

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

So my group of old-timey players has decided they would like to switch to the PFRPG for our next AP. This is a big deal for us considering the last D&D rule books we bought were the 3.5 PHB, DMG, and MM and we've been playing with only these books since 2003.

Once we wrap up CotCT (we just started part 5) our next AP will be a PFRPG based one. I wasn't planning on migrating but I'm not against it either. My players feel that after going through Savage Tide, Runelords, and now Curse, Paizo deserves the extra bucks from us for the thousands of hours of good times they have provided to the group. So I'm willing to go along.

My questions:

1. We would need 4 PFRPG core rulebooks and a bestiary. Is there a "multi-book" discount when buying directly from Paizo.com?

2. From what I understand, each new printing of the core rulebook has had slight revisions. I am guaranteed to get the latest printing from Paizo.com?

3. If I purchase the core rulebook from Amazon instead, I assume I'll be given whatever printing they have in stock and I have no way of knowing what printing I will get until it arrives, correct?

4. I've bought almost all my APs used from Amazon so I have no problem with used books. With this in mind, how are the PFRPG core books holding up over time? Would a used one be in reasonably good shape?

I am not paizo but I will answer you questions best I can.

1) I don't think they do. But you can buy the PDF's for 10 bucks each. So if people have access to computers you can just get 4 PDF's and one books. PDF's for home use and the one book to be used during the game. Same goes for the Bestiary.

2) I believe so yes.

3) Correct, you could get any printing really. Though a good chance you will end up with the previous printing of the rules.

4) Mine all still look like new. To be fair I take good care of my books, but a friend of mine does not and his while dinged, scratched and dented is in good shape.

Paizo will pay the first $10 in shipping and handling for any shipment of products totalling $100 or more. That's cool, but it's about all there is. Still, a decent deal.

As I understand it, yes. Vic speaks to that on one of these threads somewhere, when I get the chance to look, I'll post the link.

That's correct. People have received 1st and 2nd printings fairly recently, so anything's possible through Amazon.

The answer to this varies. I can only tell you that the ones at my table have held up nicely. There have been some examples (fairly rare, I believe) of less-than-perfect bindings, which I'm fairly sure you'll have in limited quantities with any book of any type, anywhere, at any time. I've seen stories of battered and overused books holding up fine, and stories of barely-touched books coming apart - although far, far fewer of the latter type of stories. I guess the answer is, it's impossible to say.

I'd advocate for buying from paizo, for what it's worth. Their customer service is pretty fantastic.

1 through 3 I cant really provide much insight into beyond what has already been said.

for the last question, I have found that paizo books hold up pretty well, but I think the sheer size of the core rulebook is a problem. 1 of the two I bought originally is really starting to wear, the spine is weakening and I will likely need to replace it fairly soon.

Overall I'd say paizo's hard covers are of good quality, but it seems to me at least that the core rulebook doesnt hold up as well (and is in worse condition then) as my original core 3.0 and 3.5 books that I bought when those systems were releases.
