What happened to varisian tattoos?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

do they do anything anymore? Before beta, Seoni had tattoos that did magic stuff, Beta/Core made that obsolete, so they do anything anymore or just look cool?

It's a feat in the Inner Sea World Guide (289). The tattoo represents a school that you have Spell Focus in; you get +1 caster level to that school and gain a specific cantrip 3/day as a spell-like ability.

Shadow Lodge

They are in the Inner Sea World Guide and are more or less unchanged. I think they bumped the ability gained from once per day to three times per day:

Quote:

Select a school of magic (other than divination)

in which you have Spell Focus—you cast spells from this
school at +1 caster level. Additionally, you gain a single
spell-like ability usable up to three times per day. The spell-
like ability gained (and its Varisian name) are as follows:
Abjuration (avidais): resistance
Conjuration (idolis): acid splash
Enchantment (carnasia): daze
Evocation (ragario): dancing lights
Illusion (vangloris): ghost sound
Necromancy (voratalo): touch of fatigue
Transmutation (avaria): mage hand

The cantrip is useful only if you don't take it otherwise so possibly redundant. Maybe a touch more useful to wizards who might need material components.

The Varisian Tattoo is in the new Inner Sea World Guide, and it is basically unchanged from its earlier 3.5 versions in the Campaign Setting and the Rise of the Runelords Player's Guide.
