I am about to start a campaign. What I would like to do is hook my lap top up to the gigantimous TV the host has and display pictures as we go. The idea is to have the pictures be landscapes, NPC portraits, and maps.
Is there a free program I can download that will let me create a skin over a map and erase it as I go?
The only place I can think of for good graphics is Deviant Art and Google Image Search. Are there other places I could look?

http://www.rptools.net/ has a MapTool that might help.
I'm not sure if it will do what you are asking for, though.
I'd be curious as to what software other GM's regularly use, should I take up the role of GM myself.

see this thread about VTT programs (+1 for maptools, my preferred VTT for exactly the setup you describe above!) and this thread about good graphics.
I recommend using tokentool for creating "pogs" (tokens).
If you have paizo pdf subscription, you can export images from them and then create pogs.
Alternatively, one day, perhaps, paizo will make the VTT jump and start selling prepackaged pogs (example products: Summons: Levels 1-10, Dragons!, Monstrous Humanoids 1: Orcs, Goblins, Kobolds, and Hobgoblins, The Complete Human Pog Pack, etc etc). (Hey, paizo, I've already built all of these for private use, if you want to see 'em, find me at paizocon...)
