Powerful charge question

Rules Questions

I have a question about powerful charge so:
How exactly do you figure out how much extra damage a creature does with the powerful charge?

There is an actual formula, and I figured it out once. It is not in the books though. It has to be reverse engineered.

The base weapon diee doubles and the strength bonus is doubled.

Examples:
Triceratops
Offense

Speed 30 ft.

Melee gore +17 (2d10+12)

Space 15 ft.; Reach 15 ft.

Special Attacks powerful charge (gore, 4d10+16), trample (1d8+12, DC 25)

Statistics

Str 26,

---------------------------------------------
Rhino

Offense

Speed 40 ft.

Melee gore +8 (2d6+9)

Space 10 ft.; Reach 5 ft.

Special Attacks powerful charge (gore, 4d6+12)

Statistics

Str 22

So you double the weapon die and instead of instead of adding 1+1/2 times the STR mod you add 2 times the STR mod, right?

Correct

Sometimes you add STR mod x2, sometimes you add STR mod x1.5:

Whether or not a creature with powerful charge deals x1.5 or x2 Str mod on a powerful charge depends entirely on the creature, actually. The monster designer picks which one fits the creature's theme and look and style. As a general rule, bigger and stronger and "thicker-legged" monsters get the x2. It also depends on what the monster's other attacks do for damage as compared to where its CR expects its damage to be on table 1–1 in the Bestiary.
