What is with all the reboots with comics to movies?

Comics

Guess this thread could be in either thread; but is more comic news oriented. How are these comics translated to movies? Might be spoilers inside, depends on how current you are and how much you read.

so; Superman rebooted new guy; old story?
Spiderman rebooted; new guys; middle of story?
Capt A, Green Lantern, and Thor on the way in who knows what story; origins I guess though Caps story is supposed to be cosmic cube I hear which is a slice of the infinity shard or something like that.

Xmen; Preboot? back to Xaviers story back with Magneto and that one is just jacked up crazy in the comic timeline.

I love my comics and love my supers movies; but sheesh; gettin tired of the Superman rewrites; so the last one Sups returns only made 391 million; I liked it; real subtle and I thought he played Sups great and Clark even better.

At least Batman is going to continue after the Batman Begins reboot; I like them all; but like the grittier Batman Begins story over the others.

I dont like Iron Man at all; but the movies where pretty good; but what story line do you take from here; you cant do the comic line of Armor Wars; as they havent introduced all those other armored characters yet and FF4 movie messed up the line for all the fights between Iron Man and Dr. Doom; and they have tangled a lot. Dr Doom in the comics actually hunted Iron Man down just to prove whose armor was better. Same as Dr. Doom hunted down DR Strange to prove he was a stronger sorcerer than the Sorcerer Supreme of Earth.

Wolverine to do a solo movie about his samurii time in Japan; ok; comics had several mini series about that; him alone or with various other characters; but they killed off his lover and main protagonist in Lady Deathstrike; so that makes no sense and Wolvie loved her as Yukio before she became Lady Deathstrike; so this is jacked.

So we love all these characters as their comic identities so what the heck are these substandard bozo's at the movies doing; taking away all the reasons we care about the characters; rewriting identities; is total garbage.

Still, I will watch them anyway; better than nothing.

Iron Man 3 will most likely star Mandarin as a villain, at least the first movie set up for that.

Wait, so there are going to be more Batman movies in this line after the 'Batman Begin' trilogy? By Christopher Nolan? Hmmm.

Sounds good to me!...as long as he can get Christian Bale to stop talking in that goofy deep gravelly voice he tries.

I think part of the reason for 'reboots' is to keep the movies from being too entangled in their own lore.

I mean I read somewhere that while Pirates IV isn't a 'reboot' it's more a Jack Sparrow story, where Pirates I-III were the Will Turner/Elizabeth Swan story.

Likewise, I'd think an X-men IV would be a good place to 'reboot' with Iceman, Jubilee, Kitty, Colossus (and Rogue maybe) being the 'next class' with Storm/Beast/Wolverine having minor roles as mentors/teachers.* Keep the 'universe' established, but go forward.

Superman, though, I think needs a reboot. While I enjoyed (most**) of Superman returns, and thought that Brandon Routh's portrayal of Christopher Reeve's Clark Kent/Superman was so good to be scary, the series could really use a reboot.***

Spiderman I think they're eager to reboot because of Mary Jane Watson vs. OMD nonsense.

Spoiler:
Ok, so Ellen Page and Anna Paquin might be too expensive. Still I believe Sean Ashmore can carry a leading role. I'd make the villian Sinister, and that way you could introduce X-23/Laura as an initial villian who does the heel/face turn (and if the actress is small enough we could get a more traditional fastball special from Colossus) We could also get some of the New Mutants. Roberto would work, as would Dani both for new characters and 'diversity'

Hmm, a team of Bobbie, Jubilee, Kitty, Peter, Dani, and Roberto (with the energy generation/flight powers of his later incarnation) would make for a nice team. Have Sinister kidnap Illyana, and have X-23. If Eric Dane would reprise Jamie, he could be working for Sinister (ala Wolverine and the X-men). Include Angel and Sinister makes him into Archangel... Heck, have Kitty rescue a CGI Lockheed from Sinister's labs. I'd pay to see that.

Spoiler:
Count me as one offended by the 'truth, justice, all that stuff' Also I didn't like superbastard, and that the villian was *again* Lex, and again kryptonite.

Spoiler:
Since Warner has said the JL movie will not be connected to Batman or Superman products (Or I assume GL) I'd just say suck it up and have the JL movie be an endcap to Smallville. With the bigger budget (and lessons learned from GL) allowing J'onn to shift into his natural form (with Phil Morris still voicing) and the other cast members reprising their roles for the movie would work. I doubt they're going that way though. If the JL movie has a CG Martian Manhunter, please let Karl Lumly do his voice.

Nolan directed, but no Christian Bale, it might be a reboot, we're not sure.

I thought Brandon Roth made a pretty good Superman myself. It was the story that needed more work, not the actor. And of course, whatshername playing Lois was just wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

I also totally agree that the Superman movies need to drop Lex Luthor and the constant Kryptonite plot. That alone would be a good next step.

Personally, I don't need anymore Spider Man movies for a while. Three was enough for a decade or two.

Iceman, however, I could get behind. I'd like to see more Wolverine but not in Japan. Surely there's something different they can do with that.

I'm looking forward to the Avenger's movie and the other Marvel movies coming out in the next few months. And finally, please no Antman movie.
