Best adventure / module / scenario for a group of new players?

In hopes to spread the Gospel of Pathfinder further I am planning to do a workshopy presentation of the game (rules & how-to assembe a character) on a local Convention (place is Croatia, Europe).

I'd like to follow up that part with a short adventure that can show the new players how the system works and I need it to NOT be all action (although it mostly will be) but also draw them in with a bit of a story so they can experience the 'role'playing part.

I guess I could come up with something but I hope there is something better (and official) available (either 3.5 or PFRPG)

help? :D

EDIT: it should be playable in cca 3 hours and considering the players will be new, it will probably need to be much shorter than a module

One of the Pathfinder Society scenarios should be good; they're supposed to be playable in a 4 hour slot. I'd suggest Silent Tide, since it has a good mix of stuff (combat, NPC interaction, puzzle solving). It's 3.5 though, so it might need a little conversion.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

As I recall, Silent Tide was not too long a scenario, and a pretty good introduction to Pathfinder. Master of the Fallen Fortress is designed to be an intro, but it runs long and has some risky TPK bits - might want to steer clear of it, given your criteria. Many Favors of Grandmaster Torch can be run very, very quickly. I've done it in two hours.

If you decide you've got much more time than you anticipated, I've heard very good things about Godsmouth Heresy, but I've not played it myself.

I know there's a lot of PFS here, but those are short and practically designed for convention play.

Besides, PFS is awesome =P

yeah, scenarios seem like the best option. I can convert on the fly so that will work :) any other suggestions?

Silent Tide seems like an excellent adventure but I am worried a bit (I guess I aways expect the worst) if players get bogged down

hmm, 'Many favours..' you say? :) I'll take a look. EDIT looks like its 'Many fortunes..' but works both ways ;)

I own a copy of Godsmouth Heresy and in hopes of running it for my long term group, I'm keeping it jelously for a 'special occasion' or something like that :D

For Silent Tide, if you skip the second or third combat (sorry, Mr. Kortes...) and you don't bother with the faction missions, I'm sure you could easily finish it in 3 hours.

Ah, yes, apologies. I always find a way to mix up that one's name. I've called it "Grandmaster Flame" "Many Torches" etc., haha.

It's a decent season 0 adventure, though it can get a bit railroad-y at parts, even moreso than your standard scenario. Still, it is fast, and a decent introduction to various roleplaying situations.

Crypt of the Everflame is absolutely perfect for this. However, I doubt it's something that could be run in 3 hours.

Sovereign Court

Into The Haunted Forest

Far and away the best adventure I have ever run for novices.

I just did into the haunted forest with a group of half new people. we got all but the last encounter done I'n 4 hours but I had 7 people. with 5 I'm pretty sure I could have gotten it done I'n 4.

this modual also provides an npc you can use to justify any follow up adventures.

The Exchange

As far as Pathfinder products are concerned I would have to agree with the others Into the Haunted Forest is a great starting point.

awesome :D I'll definitelly look trough the suggestions :)

I can't wait for that Basic Set to appear at some point.. it will be much easier to go trough rules for novices with it
